Elliot faces tough consequences.

Elliot has started this season more isolated than ever. After destroying the bulk of the world's electronic economic infrastructure, he's gone into hiding and is more paranoid than ever. According to Rami Malek, his life is not going to get easier any time soon. He explains, "We deal with the fallout quite a bit. Obviously you can already see that he’s conflicted and feels very guilty about what’s happened with Gideon, and there’s more to come from him. The special thing about this show is we don’t live in this fairytale land where you can just destroy the world’s economy and everything is going to be better because of it ... There’s a big question: At what cost would you like to affect your society and the world you live in? What are the repercussions of that? What that would be for Elliot remains to be seen, but I doubt that it’s going to be pleasant."

There's a huge twist involving Angela.

Angela (Portia Doubleday) has seemingly gone to the dark side, accepting a high-powered job at E Corporation, the company responsible for the death of her mother. According to Doubleday, Angela is not simply selling out. She explains, "Say there’s going to be so many episodes where people go back-and-forth and don’t know what is going on because there is something [unexpected] this season. I asked [showrunner] Sam Esmail what it is, and he said, 'You’re never going to guess it,' and I was like, 'Yes I will.' He was like, 'Nope, nope, nope,” and we hadn’t read it. We read the first six [episodes] by ourselves. We went to a warehouse [where] we read the last four together for the first time ... and we got to this one point where I [gasped.] I will say there are so many things this season that are completely unpredictable."

Grace Gummer's character has a hidden agenda.

Grace Gummer joined the cast this season in the role of Dominique DiPierro, and FBI agent who is determined to figure out who caused the financial crisis. Gummer revealed that viewers will soon learn Dominique's backstory: "You’ll find out a lot about who she is and why she’s so drawn to this case and why she’ll sort of stop at nothing to find out who did it and how and why. She’s very instinctually driven to find out all of the answers and push people aside who are in her way."

Mr. Robot continues to exert a powerful hold on Elliot.

Season 1 Spoiler Alert: Elliot realized that the enigmatic Mr. Robot was actually a hallucination of his father at the end of Season 1. However, he still cannot rid himself of the figment of his imagination. Christian Slater, who plays Mr. Robot, acknowledged that he was concerned that his character would no longer have a function. He explains, "Now that the cat is out of the bag, what is the purpose of this? Why was [he] there ... and where is it going to go?" After a conversation with showrunner Sam Esmail, he was reassured. "[Mr. Robot is] there to challenge Elliot and to do things that he might not normally be able to do. And [he's] also there to protect him. He revealed that Esmail had a lengthy conversation with each cast member about their Season 2 character arcs. He said, "I was thrilled. It goes to some very unexpected places."

Angela, Elliot, and Darlene's bond will be very important.

So far this season, Elliot, Darlene (Carly Chaikin), and Angela have had little interaction. According to Portia Doubleday, the trio, who have been close since childhood, will eventually reconnect. She said, "Sam did say to me this season, 'Remember who you’re different around,' because I have a very specific dynamic with [Elliot.] She has a very different dynamic with Darlene. Those kind of stay no matter how much Angela shifts ... The people that you’re closest to, you act differently around. What I can tell you is those three have a lot to do with each other this season: me, Darlene, and Elliot. You get to see a lot more about their relationships, especially Angela and Elliot."

Elliot may not be as crazy as he seems.

Malek enigmatically hinted that the mentally unstable Elliot may not be as delusional as we think, revealing, "If it’s a convoluted or questionable world where he’s at, you should also question why you’re watching it. I think things are a bit more real than people have surmounted so far."
