RuPaul at an event for 2016 Creative Arts Emmys (2016)

TV News of the Week: Cover Girl Edition

We never get tired of New York stories from the 1970s and '80s. So, this week's announcement that RuPaul is finally bringing a version of his life story to television is one of the highlights of our week. The Emmy winner has dropped personal-life nuggets throughout all 9 seasons of "RuPaul's Drag Race," and we trust he won't gloss over any of the sordid details as "Queen" comes together at Hulu with J.J. Abrams producing. Plus, we're already dream casting his sidekick, Michelle Visage!

Josh Brolin in Deadpool 2 (2018)

Character Reveal of the Week

We were excited to get our first look at Josh Brolin as the time-hopping mutant Cable in Deadpool 2. Based on this photo (and the teddy bear on his hip), there are rumors flying around the interwebs that we may see surrogate daughter, Hope Summers, in the storyline. And, ICYMI, make sure to check out the new photos of Zazie Beatz as Domino. We are ready for a teaser trailer!

Tom Hardy

Trending Star of the Week

When it comes to star power on IMDb, you could make the case that there's Tom Hardy ... and then everybody else. Check out this stat: Since 2010, when Hardy stole scenes in Christopher Nolan's Inception, Hardy has never ranked lower than #38 on IMDb's STARmeter. That's staying power for you. So, it's no surprise that we find Hardy charting yet again in the Top 5, on the strength of user interest in Christopher Nolan's latest project, Dunkirk. What's next for the IMDb fan favorite? Venom in 2018 and a much rumored cameo appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Vin Diesel in xXx (2002)

Anniversary of the Week

We're finding it hard to believe that xXx turns 15 on Aug. 9. Has it really been that long since Vin Diesel first donned his unseasonably heavy furcoat as Xander Cage and used his extreme sports background to take down terrorists? Released a year after The Fast and the Furious, xXx was Diesel's first turn as a solo lead and kicked off the second franchise that he's still involved with today.

John Lithgow, Matt Smith, Claire Foy, and Vanessa Kirby in The Crown (2016)

Teaser of the Week

After a glossy first season, which cost more than $100 million to produce, "The Crown" is set to return with even more drama and scandal. The first look at Season 2 shows Queen Elizabeth II under pressure and offers a quick glimpse of "Dexter" star Michael C. Hall as JFK. The drama, which has set a release date of Dec. 8, is nominated in 13 categories at the Emmys next month.

Mark Millar at an event for Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)

Acquisition of the Week

Netflix shook things up with the announcement of its acquisition of Millarworld, the comics publishing house founded by writer Mark Milllar. What we're excited about is the Marvel-style superhero universe that in the years to come might expandi on the worlds of Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Wanted and so much more. We have our fingers crossed that the time-traveling buddy adventure series "Chrononauts" will be on the upcoming roster. So much to look forward to!

Bill Murray and Brian Doyle-Murray

Broadway Moment of the Week

Bill Murray and his brother, Brian Doyle-Murray, attended a production of Groundhog Day at the August Wilson Theatre in New York this week, where the staged version of Phil Connors' Frank Kafka/Frank Capra-ian experience in Punxsutawney, Pa., brought Bill to tears.

Javier Bardem and Jennifer Lawrence in Mother! (2017)

Trailer of the Week

We received our first proper look at Darren Aronofsky's Mother! this week and were left both shaken and stirred. The psychological horror stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem as a couple whose homelife is disrupted by the arrival of two unexpected guests, played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris, of which the latter appears even more menacing than his Man in Black character in "Westworld." Two minutes left us terrified. So, two hours may almost be too much to handle. Mother! will play in competition at this year’s Venice Film Festival before being released in theaters on Sept. 15.

Good Time (2017)

Bleach Job of the Week

Folks looking for a thrilling and engrossing heist-within-a-heist movie would do well to give Good Time a look this weekend. The stylishly seedy film, co-directed by brothers Benny and Josh Safdie, highlights an eye-popping performance by Robert Pattinson as a scheming crook with big-time aspirations ... and one scrappy-looking bleach job.

Gustaf Skarsgård

TV Casting News of the Week

There were so many casting announcement this week, but we were especially intrigued by the news that "Westworld" is adding three more new members to the cast: Gustaf Skarsgård as Karl Strand, a white-collar guy comfortable in the field; Fares Fares as Antoine Costa, a tech expert; and Betty Gabriel, as Maling, who is trying to restore order on the ground.

Between these new roles and the shocking Comic-Con trailer, it seems as though the first order of business at the park will be gaining some control.

Cate Blanchett in The Aviator (2004)

Movie Casting News of the Week

After her star turn as Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator, it's not hard to imagine Cate Blanchett as Lucille Ball. Amazon Studios announced they acquired the biopic Lucy and Desi. The Desi Arnaz role has yet to be cast. Might we suggest Ricky Martin?
