My Favorite Actors (No particular order)

by joetufano882 | created - 11 Mar 2014 | updated - 07 Apr 2015 | Public

Some of my favorite actors either of all time or those working today and this is not in any particular order. And I'll be updating this list from time to time whenever I think of another actor I really like.

1. Christian Bale

Actor | The Dark Knight

Christian Charles Philip Bale was born in Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK on January 30, 1974, to English parents Jennifer "Jenny" (James) and David Charles Howard Bale. His mother was a circus performer and his father, who was born in South Africa, was a commercial pilot. The family lived in different ...

Extremely passionate and dedicated to his work with his movies like TDK trilogy, American Hustle and The Fighter to name a few, Bale continues to show us that he's a force to be reckoned with.

2. Robert Downey Jr.

Actor | Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr. has evolved into one of the most respected actors in Hollywood. With an amazing list of credits to his name, he has managed to stay new and fresh even after over four decades in the business.

Downey was born April 4, 1965 in Manhattan, New York, the son of writer, director and ...

Who would've thought that RDJ would be able to overcome his drug addiction, and prove that he's still got it? Obviously his performance as Iron Man sticks out in a lot of people's minds but don't forget Sherlock Holmes and Tropic Thunder! He also is really good at showing his emotional/serious side also.

3. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Actor | Inception

Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt was born February 17, 1981 in Los Angeles, California, to Jane Gordon and Dennis Levitt. Joseph was raised in a Jewish family with his late older brother, Dan Gordon-Levitt, who passed away in October 2010. His parents worked for the Pacifica Radio station KPFK-FM and ...

After seeing him in TDKR, Looper, 50/50 and Don Jon, this guy has a bright future in front of him.

4. Tom Hanks

Producer | Cast Away

Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born in Concord, California, to Janet Marylyn (Frager), a hospital worker, and Amos Mefford Hanks, an itinerant cook. His mother's family, originally surnamed "Fraga", was entirely Portuguese, while his father was of mostly English ancestry. Tom grew up in what he has ...

Good ole Tom is the bomb! He never ceases to impress.

5. Leonardo DiCaprio

Actor | Inception

Few actors in the world have had a career quite as diverse as Leonardo DiCaprio's. DiCaprio has gone from relatively humble beginnings, as a supporting cast member of the sitcom Growing Pains (1985) and low budget horror movies, such as Critters 3 (1991), to a major teenage heartthrob in the 1990s,...

Where is that Oscar? He most definitely deserves it!

6. Harrison Ford

Actor | Raiders of the Lost Ark

Harrison Ford was born on July 13, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois, to Dorothy (Nidelman), a radio actress, and Christopher Ford (born John William Ford), an actor turned advertising executive. His father was of Irish and German ancestry, while his maternal grandparents were Jewish immigrants from Minsk,...

Han Solo, Indiana Jones, Richard Kimble, Detective John Book and Branch Rickey. Even though he hasn't done a whole lot of things of merit lately, he's still got it and can't wait to see him come back in Force Awakens.

7. Robert De Niro

Actor | Cape Fear

One of the greatest actors of all time, Robert De Niro was born on August 17, 1943 in Manhattan, New York City, to artists Virginia (Admiral) and Robert De Niro Sr. His paternal grandfather was of Italian descent, and his other ancestry is English, Dutch, German, French and Irish. He was trained at...

What can I say about De Niro that hasn't already been said? He's arguably the best actor out there.

8. Daniel Radcliffe

Actor | Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born on July 23, 1989 in Fulham, London, England, to casting agent Marcia Gresham (née Jacobson) and literary agent Alan Radcliffe. His father is from a Northern Irish Protestant background, while his mother was born in South Africa, to a Jewish family (from Lithuania, ...

The boy who will always be Harry Potter!

9. Tobey Maguire

Actor | Brothers

Tobias Vincent Maguire was born in Santa Monica, California. His parents were 18 and 20, and not yet married, when he was born. His mother, Wendy (Brown), did advertising, publicity, and acting in Hollywood for years as she coached and managed Tobey. His father, Vincent Maguire, was a cook and ...

This is more than likely the most controversial choice on this list. I know a lot of people don't like him anymore because of Spider-Man 3, but he was unfortunately given a pretty bad screenplay to work with. He doesn't deserve all the hate he's gotten since then. And he's done some good and even great movies in his whole career like Cider House Rules, Seabiscuit, Brothers, Great Gatsby, Ice Storm and of course the first two Spider-Man movies by Sam Raimi. And I look forward to seeing him in "Pawn Sacrifice". Tobey is a very rare kind of actor who is really subtle in the way he plays his characters. Some people are bothered by that, but I'm not. With the camerawork, music and the slight change in his facial expression you can tell what's going on through his head. You don't always need to act like you're in a Shakespeare play. Hopefully one day, he'll finally get the recognition he deserves.

10. Mark Hamill

Actor | Star Wars

Mark Hamill is best known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy - Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) - a role he would reprise in Star Wars: The Force...

He was the best choice to play Luke (and I'm psyched to see him return in Episode 7), but his Joker is the best aside from Heath Ledger. Lately it looks like he's been making a comeback in live action gigs, such as Kingsman and the Flash and deservedly so. Like with what I said about Tobey, Mark deserves more credit.

11. Michael J. Fox

Actor | Back to the Future

Michael J. Fox was born Michael Andrew Fox on June 9, 1961 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Phyllis Fox (née Piper), a payroll clerk, and William Fox. His parents moved their ten-year-old son, his three sisters, Kelli Fox, Karen, and Jacki, and his brother, Steven, to Vancouver, British Columbia, ...

Scott Howard, Pfc. Erikkson, Dr. Stone and of course Marty McFly, how can you not like Michael J. Fox?

12. Matt Damon

Actor | Good Will Hunting

Matthew Paige Damon was born on October 8, 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Kent Damon, a stockbroker, realtor and tax preparer, and Nancy Carlsson-Paige, an early childhood education professor at Lesley University. Matt has an older brother named Kyle who is now a sculptor. His father is of ...

He has been for the most part very consistent: The Departed, Good Will Hunting, Bourne, Adjustment Bureau, (SPOILER! SPOILER! ) Interstellar and We Bought a Zoo. Matt Damon is the epitome of awesome.

13. Ben Affleck

Producer | Argo

American actor and filmmaker Benjamin Géza Affleck-Boldt was born on August 15, 1972 in Berkeley, California, and was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His mother, Chris Anne (née Boldt), is a school teacher, and his father, Timothy Byers Affleck, is a social worker; the two are divorced. Ben has...

Great director, and I also think he's a very good actor. He just needs the right script to work with. Yes he doesn't have a good track record but he has done good performances in his career: Good Will Hunting, Armageddon (I think it's a fun movie), The Town, State of Play, Argo and most recently David Fincher's Gone Girl. As for him playing Batman, I'm still a bit skeptical but I do hope it works out for him.

14. Tommy Lee Jones

Actor | The Fugitive

Tommy Lee Jones was born in San Saba, Texas, the son of Lucille Marie (Scott), a police officer and beauty shop owner, and Clyde C. Jones, who worked on oil fields. Tommy himself worked in underwater construction and on an oil rig. He attended St. Mark's School of Texas, a prestigious prep school ...

He always makes me laugh with the blank stare he usually has from Men in Black, and his performance in Lincoln was terrific and the best he's been in years.

15. Samuel L. Jackson

Actor | Pulp Fiction

Samuel L. Jackson is an American producer and highly prolific actor, having appeared in over 100 films, including Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995), Unbreakable (2000), Shaft (2000), Formula 51 (2001), Black Snake Moan (2006), Snakes on a Plane (2006), and the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999-2005), ...

Samuel L. Jackson has never disappointed. I can listen to him yelling and cursing forever..... well I guess that sounds kinda wrong.... He's still awesome!

16. Gary Oldman

Actor | Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Gary Oldman is a talented British born movie actor who played Sid Vicious in Sid & Nancy, Drexl in True Romance, and George Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. He starred in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the remake of RoboCop. He is also an English filmmaker, musician and author. Renowned for...

Gary Oldman has made me laugh, cry, root for him, get creeped out by him, scratch my head, etc. His ability to slip into any kind of character still astounds me. You always have my respect Mr. Oldman

17. Bruce Willis

Actor | Die Hard

Actor and musician Bruce Willis is well known for playing wisecracking or hard-edged characters, often in spectacular action films. Collectively, he has appeared in films that have grossed in excess of $2.5 billion USD, placing him in the top ten stars in terms of box office receipts.

Walter Bruce ...

People may mock him for just going through the motions and basically phoning it in a lot the last 15 years or so, but he was good in Die Hard 4 (yes I like that movie) and Looper where for the first time in a long time he actually did something very heartfelt in his performance. He also showed that in Sixth Sense, The Kid and Unbreakable so I know what he's capable of. But hey, how can you not dig John McClane? The wrong guy in the wrong place at the wrong time ;)

18. Bryan Cranston

Actor | Breaking Bad

Bryan Lee Cranston was born on March 7, 1956 in Hollywood, California, to Audrey Peggy Sell, a radio actress, and Joe Cranston, an actor and former amateur boxer. His maternal grandparents were German, and his father was of Austrian, German, Irish and Jewish ancestry. He was raised partly by his ...

You can't go wrong with the Heisenberg!

19. Kiefer Sutherland

Actor | 24

Kiefer Sutherland was born in London, England, UK, to Canadian actors Shirley Douglas and Donald Sutherland, who moved to California shortly after his birth. His maternal grandfather, Tommy Douglas, was a Scottish-born Canadian politician who was a Premier of Saskatchewan for over 17 years and led ...

From what I've seen, not a lot of people give Sutherland enough credit. He's absolutely phenomenal as Jack Bauer, and along with the show's writing is so good at balancing all the complexities of that character.

20. Mark Wahlberg

Actor | Boogie Nights

American actor Mark Wahlberg is one of a handful of respected entertainers who successfully made the transition from teen pop idol to acclaimed actor. A Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee for The Departed (2006) who went on to receive positive critical reviews for his performance in The Fighter (...

Gotta give credit where it's due, he's come a long way from being a troublemaker as a kid, to a rap star and now he's one of the best actors in the business. He's unfortunately underused in The Departed: "I'm the guy who does his job, you must be the other guy!"

21. Morgan Freeman

Actor | Se7en

With an authoritative voice and calm demeanor, this ever popular American actor has grown into one of the most respected figures in modern US cinema. Morgan was born on June 1, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Mayme Edna (Revere), a teacher, and Morgan Porterfield Freeman, a barber. The young Freeman...

Even if the movie he's in is bad, he's always the bright spot in it.

22. Tom Cruise

Actor | Top Gun

In 1976, if you had told fourteen year-old Franciscan seminary student Thomas Cruise Mapother IV that one day in the not too distant future he would be Tom Cruise, one of the top 100 movie stars of all time, he would have probably grinned and told you that his ambition was to join the priesthood. ...

He is a bit of a bizarre guy, but you can't deny how committed of an actor he is. Those stunts he did in Ghost Protocol in particular were amazing, and that "show me the money!" line is priceless!

23. Chris Evans

Actor | The Avengers

Christopher Robert Evans began his acting career in typical fashion: performing in school productions and community theater.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Lisa (Capuano), who worked at the Concord Youth Theater, and G. Robert Evans III, a dentist. His uncle is congressman Mike ...

I have to be honest, I wasn't THAT big a fan of Snowpiercer but outside of Captain America which I think he's done a great job in, check out "Cellular" which came out in 2004. I won't go into too much detail about it, but it's interesting to see him do that kind of character in that movie.

24. Chris Hemsworth

Actor | The Avengers

Chris Hemsworth was born in Melbourne, Australia, to Leonie (van Os), a teacher of English, and Craig Hemsworth, a social-services counselor. His brothers are actors Liam Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth. He is of Dutch (from his immigrant maternal grandfather), Irish, English, Scottish, and German ...

Hemsworth has a bright future in front of him. Of course he's terrific as Thor but his performance as James Hunt in Ron Howard's film "Rush" shows that he is capable of doing more than a comic book character.

25. Mark Ruffalo

Actor | The Avengers

Mark Ruffalo was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Marie Rose (Hebert), a stylist and hairdresser, and Frank Lawrence Ruffalo, a construction painter. His father's ancestry is Italian, and his mother is of half French-Canadian and half Italian descent. Mark moved with his family to Virginia Beach, ...

He left school at age 15 and took a series of working-class jobs before joining the British army and serving in Korea during the Korean ...

Like Morgan Freeman, even in a bad movie Michael Caine is always the bright spot.

27. Liam Neeson

Actor | Schindler's List

Liam Neeson was born on June 7, 1952 in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, UK, to Katherine (Brown), a cook, and Bernard Neeson, a school caretaker. Liam worked as a forklift operator for Guinness, truck driver, assistant architect and an amateur boxer. He had originally sought a career as a teacher by ...

Even in a bad movie he entertains me. Well.... sometimes.... (I'm talking about Phantom Menace). But as far as the good: Oskar Schindler, Ra's Al Ghul and Bryan Mills. I'm sold!

28. Hugh Jackman

Actor | Les Misérables

Hugh Michael Jackman is an Australian actor, singer, multi-instrumentalist, dancer and producer. Jackman has won international recognition for his roles in major films, notably as superhero, period, and romance characters. He is best known for his long-running role as Wolverine in the X-Men film ...

The best casting for Wolverine, but has shown his greatness outside of X-Men like Prisoners, The Prestige and Kate & Leopold (yes the movie wasn't that great but he stole the show). I look forward to whatever he does next.

29. James Franco

Actor | 127 Hours

Known for his breakthrough starring role on Freaks and Geeks (1999), James Franco was born in Palo Alto, California on April 19, 1978. His mother is Betsy Franco and his father is Douglas Eugene "Doug" Franco who ran a Silicon Valley business. James's mother, a writer, has occasionally acted.

...

When he's not in the Seth Rogen front, I do think that Franco can really show his greatness as an actor with movies like the original Spider-Man trilogy as Harry Osborn, Scott Smith in "Milk" and Aron Ralston in 127 Hours which he was nominated for an Oscar.

30. Denzel Washington

Actor | Fences

Denzel Hayes Washington, Jr. was born on December 28, 1954 in Mount Vernon, New York. He is the middle of three children of a beautician mother, Lennis, from Georgia, and a Pentecostal minister father, Denzel Washington, Sr., from Virginia. After graduating from high school, Denzel enrolled at ...

One of the best actors out there. Never disappoints!

31. Ewan McGregor

Actor | Moulin Rouge!

Ewan Gordon McGregor was born on March 31, 1971 in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland, to Carol Diane (Lawson) and James Charles McGregor, both teachers. His uncle is actor Denis Lawson. He was raised in Crieff. At age 16, he left Morrison Academy to join the Perth Repertory Theatre. His parents ...

I haven't seen a whole ton of his movies, but his performance in the final lightsaber fight in Revenge of the Sith showed me that he's got it in him. I definitely need to see The Impossible and Moulin Rouge after seeing him in Star Wars.

32. Will Smith

Music_department | The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Willard Carroll "Will" Smith, Jr. (born September 25, 1968) is an American actor, comedian, producer, rapper, and songwriter. He has enjoyed success in television, film, and music. His mother was Irish, from County Longford, while his American-born father is ...

Been trying to catch up on most of his movies like Signs, Ransom and maybe I'll give Mad Max a try but some of the best I've seen him do are the Patriot, Braveheart (FREEDOM!), Lethal Weapon, Passion of the Christ and We Were Soldiers. I do agree that those racial remarks he made were wrong, but I think we've let it go on long enough and should allow him to come back.

35. Heath Ledger

Actor | Brokeback Mountain

When hunky, twenty-year-old heart-throb Heath Ledger first came to the attention of the public in 1999, it was all too easy to tag him as a "pretty boy" and an actor of little depth. He spent several years trying desperately to sway this image, but this was a double-edged sword. His work comprised ...

Arguably his outstanding and iconic performance as The Joker is what sticks out the most in people's minds, but he also proved to be great in other flicks like "A Knight's Tale" and "The Patriot". It's really sad what happened to him, but his work as an actor will never be forgotten.

36. Philip Seymour Hoffman

Actor | The Master

Film and stage actor and theater director Philip Seymour Hoffman was born in the Rochester, New York, suburb of Fairport on July 23, 1967. He was the son of Marilyn (Loucks), a lawyer and judge, and Gordon Stowell Hoffman, a Xerox employee, and was mostly of German, Irish, English and Dutch ...

Like with Heath Ledger, it's truly sad what happened to him but he'll still be remembered for years to come. I don't have/or haven't seen enough of his movies but some of my favorites he's done are Charlie Wilson's War, MI3, Doubt, Ides of March, Catching Fire and Twister. Find peace on the other side Mr. Hoffman.

37. Tom Hardy

Actor | Inception

With his breakthrough performance as Eames in Christopher Nolan's science fiction thriller Inception (2010), English actor Tom Hardy has been brought to the attention of mainstream audiences worldwide. However, the versatile actor has been steadily working on both stage and screen since his ...

Watcyn Lewis, a city broker whose own parents were Welsh. He was raised on Abbey Road in London until the age of 8 with his siblings Gareth, William, ...

I've only seen bits and pieces of Homeland, but he's good in it from what I saw. And of course he's terrific as Major Winters.

39. Jeremy Renner

Actor | The Hurt Locker

Jeremy Lee Renner was born in Modesto, California, the son of Valerie (Tague) and Lee Renner, who managed a bowling alley. After a tumultuous yet happy childhood with his four younger siblings, Renner graduated from Beyer High School and attended Modesto Junior College. He explored several areas of...

His best work in my opinion was The Town and Hurt Locker. Hopefully he'll have more screentime in Age of Ultron.

Born in London, England, Daniel Michael Blake Day-Lewis is the second child of Nicholas Blake, Poet Laureate of the U.K., and his second wife, actress Jill Balcon. Daniel Day-Lewis has never ceased to impress me.

41. Brad Pitt

Actor | Mr. & Mrs. Smith

An actor and producer known as much for his versatility as he is for his handsome face, Golden Globe-winner Brad Pitt's most widely recognized role may be Tyler Durden in Fight Club (1999). However, his portrayals of Billy Beane in Moneyball (2011), and Rusty Ryan in the remake of Ocean's Eleven (...

Se7en, Fight Club, Fury, Moneyball, Inglourious Basterds, Snatch, Troy, Ocean's Eleven and his brief part in 12 Years a Slave. He may be a big movie star, but you can't deny how good he is at what he does!

42. Sylvester Stallone

Actor | Rocky

This athletically built, dark-haired American actor/screenwriter/director may never be mentioned by old-school film critics in the same breath as, say, Richard Burton or Alec Guinness; however, movie fans worldwide have been flocking to see Stallone's films for over 30 years, making "Sly" one of ...

Yo Sly! You're all heart and you always will be!

His father, James Donald McConaughey, was a Mississippi-born gas station owner who ran an oil pipe supply business. He is ...

Even when he was doing those stupid comedies, I always respected the guy as an actor because there were a few scenes in those movies that showed his potential. Now that he's moved away from those flicks, he's come a long way and showed the world that he's got a few more tricks up his sleeve.

44. Michael Fassbender

Actor | Shame

Michael Fassbender was born in Heidelberg, Germany, to a German father, Josef, and an Irish mother, Adele (originally from Larne, County Antrim, in Northern Ireland). Michael was raised in the town of Killarney, Co. Kerry, in south-west Ireland, where his family moved to when he was two years old. ...

First noticed him in Band of Brothers as Pvt Christenson, and I've also seen him as Magneto in First Class and Days of Future Past, Lt. Archie Hicox in Inglourious Basterds and gave an Oscar worthy performance as Epps in 12 Years a Slave. I want to check out more of this guy's work because he is damn good at what he does!

45. James McAvoy

Actor | Atonement

McAvoy was born on 21 April 1979 in Glasgow, Scotland, to Elizabeth (née Johnstone), a nurse, and James McAvoy senior, a bus driver. He was raised on a housing estate in Drumchapel, Glasgow by his maternal grandparents (James, a butcher, and Mary), after his parents divorced when James was 7. He ...

After seeing him in X-Men, I need to check out more of his movies. He's a force to be reckoned with for sure!

46. Andy Serkis

Actor | Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Andrew Clement G. Serkis was born April 20, 1964, in Ruislip Manor, West London, England. He has three sisters and a brother. His father, Clement Serkis, an ethnic Armenian whose original family surname was "Serkissian", was a Medical Doctor working abroad, in Iraq; the Serkis family spent a lot of...

The master of motion capture work. Gollum in LOTR and the Hobbit, King Kong and Caesar in Planet of the Apes. Of course he's done live action acting roles which he's proven to be great in also like "The Prestige", but his work on motion capture acting is INCREDIBLE! Caesar is probably my favorite role that he's done in all of his career.

47. Robin Williams

Actor | Mrs. Doubtfire

Robin McLaurin Williams was born on Saturday, July 21st, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, a great-great-grandson of Mississippi Governor and Senator, Anselm J. McLaurin. His mother, Laurie McLaurin (née Janin), was a former model from Mississippi, and his father, Robert Fitzgerald Williams, was a Ford ...

Not only a comedic genius, but he proved to be a very versatile performer with dramatic roles like Sean Maguire in "Good Will Hunting". I'll never forget watching his movies growing up, and the heart and dedication he brought to the characters he played. I hope you have found peace on the other side Mr. Williams...

48. Troy Baker

Actor | The Last of Us

Troy Baker was born on April 1, 1976 in Dallas, Texas, USA as Troy Edward Baker. He is known for his work on The Last of Us (2013), BioShock Infinite (2013) and Batman: Arkham Knight (2015). He has been married to Pamela Walworth since October 13, 2012. He was previously married to Kimberly Beck.

Okay he's mostly known for his work in the video game front, but that medium can be considered art also. His performance as Sgt. Matt Baker (which I find it interesting that Troy Baker shares the same last name with that character) in the Brothers in Arms series is where I first noticed him. He has done other voice acting in the last few years look Booker DeWitt in Bioshock Infinite (which I haven't played yet) and the Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins and now his best performance in my opinion is Joel in "The Last of Us". Now I've heard he'll be appearing in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End? Can't wait! :)

49. Logan Lerman

Actor | The Perks of Being a Wallflower

One of today's leading talents across both independent and mainstream film, Logan Lerman is an immensely talented actor who takes on challenging roles and brings dynamic characters to life on screen.

Logan was born in Beverly Hills, to a Jewish family. His parents are Lisa (Goldman), who worked as ...

Never seen the Percy Jackson movies, but I first noticed Logan Lerman in 3:10 to Yuma as Christian Bale's oldest son William, and then he appeared in Perks of Being a Wallflower and most recently David Ayer's Fury. I have a feeling this kid is going places...
