Anime I've Seen

Just made it because I was bored. Not in any order. There are hundreds of anime series and I have only seen a fraction of those so my opinions may not be the most reliable. Along with this, everyone has their own taste and likes what they like so feel free to disagree with me. I am giving a very bare-bone opinion of each show and hope it helps you find a show you will like. Also, I watch every show subbed, so if you want an opinion on dubs you will have to look elsewhere.

“ In my opinion this is the single best anime series. The concept is amazing, the world is well developed, the characters are all interesting and unique, and it has an amazing story. This is what I would consider the best transition anime, I.E. if you don't watch much anime this show is still one you will like. Plain and simple, this is one of my favorite shows of all time whether we are talking anime or live action. “ Don't be driven away by the fact that this show seems a bit confusing at first. Even though it does jump between different times and different view points it is fairly easy to follow once you catch the pace and after that it is well worth the watch. The music is amazing, the comedy is spot on, the mix of 1930's mobs with a bit of magic and mystery is well done, and the characters are some of my personal favorites. I do believe that this show is more geared towards a male audiance but I have female friends who have also enjoyed it. If you enjoy a show that provokes a bit of thought, has a good amount of blood, yet never takes itself too seriously then you should give this one a shot. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ This is perhaps the most known of recent anime so my two cents will probably just sound like everything else you have heard, but this is a show that lives up to the hype. It is dark, intelligent, well written, and has some of the best action in recent memory, but it can be a very heavy show at times. If you want a show with a dark feel or are into post-apocalypse this show is for you, but it is heavy and there is a lot of blood so be ready. Also, there isn't going to be a new season until 2016 so be prepared for that. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ If you like a bit of a mystery with some magic in the real world then Darker Than Black is for you and is one of my personal favorites. Hei, the lead character, is my favorite character in any anime and that really helps make this show great. It has a very interesting premise and is made in two episode intervals that make it easy to watch. It does sometimes suffer from uninteresting story arcs but since they are only two episodes a piece it is easy to move on from. If you want a long, in-depth story this might not be the show for you but it is certainly worth the watch for anyone interested in an anti-hero with badass powers. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ Continuing off of the original series, Shippuden turns all the characters you came to know in the original series into young adults and the stakes are far higher. Naruto has some of the coolest fights, amazing character growth from beginning to end, and Shippuden does wonders in creating a centralized story with badass villains. The biggest flaw with Naruto is the vast amount of non-canonical filler episodes, which you can skip if you want since they do not have any relation to the actual story. Also, Naruto has some "obsessions" with a certain character (you will get it if you watch it) and it can get really old really fast. I would advise this to anyone who wants a good story with a lot of cool ninja moves and wants to be in it for the long haul. Getting through the original is definitely worth it to make it to Shippuden and with the show coming to an end soon there has never been a better time to watch. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ Dragon Ball Z was the first show anime I watched and I have very fond memories of it. It has some of the best fights and the powers/power ups laid the foundation for many modern action anime series. I don't think I need to say much about it since most people already know plenty, but I will say that if you are looking for a superior story then Dragon Ball Z may not be the show for you. There is a lot of powering up and screaming that can get pretty old as well but it is still a good show worth the watch for anyone just looking for some good old hero vs. villain fights. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ Personally, I was not a huge fan of Soul Eater. It has some very entertaining and goofy comedy and has a cool premise with good action, but its flaws are too many for my taste. The characters grew annoying very quickly, the jokes lost their luster, and it seemed to lose its charm forgetting its roots halfway through the show. By the time I got to the end I was just thankful it was over but I still must note that I thought the ending was very poorly done. There was next to no closure, the final arc tried to be far too "psychological", and the final fight ended in anticlimactic disappointment. If you like goofy jokes, childish characters, or have an abundant love of Halloween then you will most likely like this show. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ A bit of a change of pace, Elfen Lied is a tragic show. It is graphic, with a lot of blood and nudity, so if you can't deal with violent shows stay away. For the most part though, Elfen Lied is a romance with some women with superpowers and a lot of violent killing. I found this show to be excellent, with beautiful art style, well developed characters and character backgrounds, and some very memorable, yet tragic, events. This show has been accused of trying to be too dark and tragic and I understand that but I still found it to be enjoyable, though the ending could have been a bit better. It is hard to say who would like this show, but if you want something dark or with a bit of romance or even some graphic violence then give this one a shot. “ This one is a bit of a "what you see is what you get." It has a lot of good action with a fairly good story but I always felt the character development was a bit sub par. The animations are a bit outdated but this is still worth a watch. If you like vampires and supernatural then this one is perhaps the pinnacle of vampire anime. It is short and too the point and the action is great, plus Alucard is one of the best anti-heroes in all anime. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ Black Lagoon is an episode by episode show that for the most part lacks an overall story, but that doesn't mean it is bad by any means. If you like stories with gun toting criminals/modern day pirates then look no further than Black Lagoon. Certainly a good watch for some good shoot outs and interesting character relations. Also, if you like badass women then you will love Revy. I don't think this show is that great for women though, but you know your taste better than me. Watch the first few episodes and you will get a feel for how the rest of the show is, but keep in mind each arc will bring a fresh new story and maybe even some fresh new faces. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ Classic action show and my favorite one that deals with demons. The story for this one can be a bit bland and takes a bit of time to really ramp up but the fights are great and this show has a bit of everything. If you absolutely hate shows about demons this is not for you but if you like a good fight then stick around and you will get plenty. This show is old and the animations aren't that great but you will adapt quickly and find a cast of great characters with some hilarious interactions and, as I have already stated, some of the best fights. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ Not my favorite show, but enjoyable. It can be a bit goofy sometimes and can't decide if it is made for kids or an older audiances but it certainly does have its moments. The world and the magic is one of the greatest appeals set with a feel similar to Aladdin or Sindbad, in fact both have characters named after them in the show. I wouldn't advice this one to you if you can't get past some goofy and sometimes pretty lame jokes but if you can it is certainly an enjoyable watch. Continued below...

This one doesn't really deviate much from the formula in the prequel series so there isn't much to add. If you found the first enjoyable you will like this one too, though it starts off pretty poor and takes a bit to recover from that. Towards the end it does get pretty action pact and you get to see some really cool magic and swordsmanship. Once again though, it is mostly just an entertaining watch that doesn't do that much to make it great. There is a chance there will be another season and if there is I think it has the potential to develop into a praise worthy show. ” - sean_wb_searl32

If you like the sound of any of that then Fate/Zero is perfect for you. The premise is awesome and it develops into a great show with some memorable fights you could only dream of when you were in history class. “ I know plenty of people will hate me for it, but I did not like this show. It started off with a lot of potential and went belly up. The characters are poorly developed with boring personalities and Lelouch is probably my single most hated anime character. The great premise did all it could to save this show, but poor writing, annoying and easily detested characters, and one of the worst endings ever made this show one of my least favorites. There is a lot of critical acclaim around it and a lot of people hail it as one of the best but it was not for me. If you like mechas and a bit of fantasy all wrapped around a rebel trying to take over an empire then give it a shot and make your own opinion. Continued below...

This one did its best to recover from the absolute disaster that was the ending of the first but never managed to regain the lust it had at the beginning driven by the great premise. The characters are still terrible and a few new and unnecessary ones are thrown in, and overall it just feels like a sad attempt to meet the potential it once had. It was much better than the first though and the ending is solid, but for me it was just a shame this show ended up how it did. If you watched the first and had even a bit of enjoyment then watch this one because it is better and I may have given it a harder review than it deserved but I was just so very disappointed after all the great reviews and great potential it had at the start. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ This one is fairly different than most shows you would normally find and I would probably put it closest to a ghost or mystery story. The premise is certainly interesting and it has a lot of pretty great moments but I was not blown away by it. It is an enjoyable watch though, but I find it hard to recommend it to anyone in particular. My advise is that if you like a bit of mystery then check it out and see what you think for yourself. I enjoyed it a lot and there is a new series for it I plan to watch so you also will get that if you enjoy the original. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ This one is hard for me to give a review of since it is split into two series of which I have very differing opinions of. For starters, if you don't like romance stay away from this show. Clannad is a slice of life romance generally geared towards a female audiance but I like to watch things with an open mind. I for one was not a fan of Clannad. It was bland, the comedy rarely hit the mark, and it spent so much time developing a wide array of characters it didn't end up developing anyone that great. “ This one is an absolute heartbreaker. The beginning is a bit bland but soon the side characters are gone and it is all killer. The lighthearted comedy from the original is not entirely lost but this one is very serious and is very sad. It is a well written coming of age story with a tragic love and a lot of great messages that can be inspirational and yet tear jerking. I didn't like the end but overall I did like After Story, and it is rare shows make me feel like this one did. Again, this show is geared towards a female audiance, but if you like tragic romances/coming of age stories, then you will most likely enjoy this one. “ For starters, Bakemonogatari is the first of the "Monogatari Series", but I will only list it since there are a number of them and they all are part of the same story. If you are interested, the watch order is Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari: Kuro, Monogatari Series Second Season, Hanamonogatari, and more to come since they are entering their final season. As for a review, I for one have come to love the monogatari series and would put it in my top ten and maybe even my top five. It has a style and a feeling unlike anything else and I love the fact that it never feels like it is imposing itself on you. It is a lot of things yet never tries to be too much. It has a great cast of very unique characters, an amazing art style with great animations, a very interesting story, and I found myself laughing all the time while watching it. I would not advise it to anyone who has not seen a number of anime series already since there are a lot of jokes you will miss and you will not be able to keep up with the style. There are also some risque scenes, though there is no actual nudity, and there are some very awkward situations. I was very on the fence when I first watch monogatari since it is like nothing else you will ever see but I came to love it and often times find myself re-watching scenes from it. It is hard to advise it to anyone in particular but it is a show that you have to watch to understand and any attempt I make to try and describe it just won't do it justice. Watch the first few episodes, if you like it keep going and watch all of Bakemonogatari. If you find that you liked all of it watch the rest of them. “ Another action shounen. I did enjoy Bleach but if you want something with action and a long story I would put Naruto and Yu Yu Hakusho as superior. Bleach does have a very strong premise and stays very strong for a long time but suffers later in the show as it becomes a series of fight after fight after fight and a lot of them are boring and are with heroes and villians you don't care about. Bleach does have some of the best fights though and a good story so if you like the long stories with good action it is one you should watch. The biggest fight between Ichigo and Aizen is one of the best fights in any show so even if you don't watch the show at least look up the fight. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ Eureka 7 is primarily a mecha/romance and I would say it is geared to wards a bit of a younger audience. I have a lot of gripes about this show such as some annoying characters, some strange choices with animations later in the show, and a bit of a lack in proper story development, but in the end I liked it. It isn't perfect and I would perhaps say it is a mecha that is more designed for females since romance is so important, but in the end the story is solid, the emotions are believable, and outside of a few annoying characters the cast is pretty good. If you like mechas and can get past romance and some pretty cheesy humor then give this one a shot. I think for how childish it can be the romance in this is actually fairly adult and the futuristic, semi-punk makes for a fun show. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ Time to make some more people hate me. Another very critically acclaimed show that I did not like. To be fair though, I liked Death Note up until a certain point where it just took a major dive. It has one of the best premises I can think of, the story starts of well written, and then it falls apart. To start, Light is another of my hated anime characters and having to deal with him the entire show and having constant inner monologue really drains this show. After a certain point it all falls apart and you wished the writer would have just ended it. I thought it limped its way forward after its initial burst and then went complete belly up loosing its primary drive. The very end was good in my eyes but overall I can't say I am glad I spent 37 episodes on this show. Most people know about Death Note and know how critically acclaimed it is so I don't think I need that much of a recommendation for it. If you like a dark show with that has elements of a thriller then you will definitely like the beginning of this show and will be drawn in. I will warn you though, I did not like how the show progressed, but I am a minority in that aspect. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ I watched this when I was a kid and have fond memories, but I would certainly say it is a kids show. If you are grown and have no memories of it then I wouldn't advise it too you since it is marketed to a young audience and that is who it is best suited for. “ This show is, plain and simple, the weirdest show I have ever watched. It has a habit of changing art style and animation, the story is all over the place, the characters are just as crazy as the story, and it all comes together in a storm of absolutely chaotic entertainment. I wouldn't hail this show as one of the greats, but it is certainly a fun watch and at only 6 episodes it only has a run time of two hours, give or take. It isn't for everyone though, so if you don't like a chaotic show or one that focuses more on being strange than actually telling a story then stay away from this, but if you want a show that will keep you laughing and guessing and even do things like switch to South Park style animation then take a seat and binge watch this one. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ This show is a classic samurai action show with an awesome style and great music. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I personally thought it lacked in character depth and the story was a bit bland for me at times. That is not to say it was a bad show though, and I enjoyed the watch from front to back, but it wouldn't crack my personal top ten. Overall it is well worth the watch for anyone interested in sword fights or samurai. I would say it is mainly geared towards a male audience but it is certainly one that can be enjoyed by anyone. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ A very bloody show with good animations and a very unique premise. It was enjoyable and had a decent enough story but since the show was cancelled it definitely begs something to be desired at the end and because of that I wouldn't recommend it. If you don't mind having a show cut off and want to see a cool show about a circus like prison with prisoners fighting each other by controling their own blood then this one is great. I was entertained by it, though I did find the main character annoying at times, but the fact that it got discontinued makes it an incomplete product. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ Classic is perhaps the best word to describe this one. A space western with great characters, one of the best soundtracks, and plenty of fun episodes. If you want a great story this one may not be great for you since it is mostly an episode by episode show, but each episode brings its own unique formula and is entertaining in its own right. One of the best anime series out there and one of the most popular, but I have my gripes about the way it ended. This can be somewhat swept under the rug though since it is an episode by episode show and it is hard to say there is a central story line. If you like space westerns with a gritty feel and jazz music then this one is great. The art style is amazing though the animations are old. I would recommend this to almost anyone since there isn't a lot of commitment and you can pretty much stop whenever. It is just a fun show to watch and is one of the classics. ” - sean_wb_searl32

“ I have very mixed opinions on this show but in the end I think it was alright. The premise had me excited and after the first episode I thought it had a lot of potential that it didn't fully live up too. The ending is really good though despite the overall underwhelming story. “ To simplify, this is for seasons one and two. I wanted to like this show a lot more than I did but I still found it to be a good watch. It brought a bit of everything to the table, a bit of comedy, some fantasy, unique characters, an interesting premise, all the while being primarily a romance, and yet to me it felt bland. It never excelled at anything in my eyes and the fact that it got discontinued makes it hard to recommend. Despite that, it is one of the most unique romance shows I have seen and I enjoyed what it brought to the table, though it just never excelled or lived up to what I wanted it to be. I would recommend this to females who like a bit of fantasy or to males who are interested in a good romance. “ This show has a lot of critical acclaim and I think it does its best to live up to that, though never fully achieving it. The art style and animations make it unique, and perhaps my favorite mecha. The premise is good, the characters are unique and hilarious to watch and the action is fairly good if not a bit corny. The show is split into two separate segments, one is the first story and one a number of years later, and I for one liked the first segment a lot, but I was not a fan of the second. If you want a fun show that will leave you laughing and has some pretty entertaining fights between mechas then this one will be perfect. “ If I hadn't earned hate before, this one will do it. Sword Art Online is my least favorite anime, and it had so much potential to be good. The first few episodes develop characters that never end up mattering, developing traits for Kirito who does a complete 180 later, and after the first ten episodes the show goes completely downhill. It loses all the thrill it had, the writing goes to the dogs, it becomes almost entirely a poorly written romance with corny lines, boring interactions, and childish emotions. It feels like halfway through the show it completely changed identities and after that it becomes almost unbearable to watch. I know this show is one of the most popular modern anime series and people adore it but for me it was one I wish I would have stopped halfway through. I would recommend this to a younger audience or to females. If you want a well written story then stay away from this one. ” - sean_wb_searl32

The idea of a romance revolving around a ghost and a living person is a bit weird and though it is done alright it succeeds more as a comedy than anything else but there are better comedies and better romances to watch.
