A few months ago, just after some audiences got their first look at Ninja Assassin at Comic Con, there were reports that the movie's star Rain had been picked to headline a remake of Enter the Dragon, the seminal Bruce Lee martial arts movie. With Ninja Assassin coming out in just a few weeks, there's still been no confirmation that Rain will in fact play the role-- but we can guarantee you he's considered it. Below see a very brief snippet from my interview with him, in which he confirms that he's discussed the film with the studio (Warner Bros., the same people distributing Ninja Assassin), but in his words, "I haven't decided yet." Now whether that means that the studio isn't 100% sure they want him, or that he's not certain he wants to do it, I have no idea. My guess is they're all waiting to see the response »

Recently I had the chance to participate in a roundtable with the Korean pop star Rain to discuss his upcoming film Ninja Assassin. During this short time I questioned Rain about the possible remake of Enter the Dragon, which he’s been rumored to star in. While he was tight lipped for the most part, he did reveal that wasn’t attached and that the project isn’t green-lit just yet.
A lot of people think you’re attached to the Enter the Dragon remake, so you’re not signed on?
Rain: No, I haven’t decided yet.
Who would you play though? Bruce Lee’s character?
Rain: Actually… I don’t know, because I cant tell you. Yeah, I haven’t signed [on] yet.
Is there any particular reason why you haven’t signed on?
Rain: Its not green light, its red light.
If it gets green-lit will you sign on? »

Today we post the final installment of our five-part Halloween Week retrospective on "The Crow," celebrating the film's 15th anniversary with cast and filmmaker interviews that explore its origin and legacy. If you're just discovering this feature, be sure to look back through our "15 Years Of Devil's Night" archive.
Part Five: Remembering Brandon Lee And "The Crow"
James O'Barr originally conceived The Crow to channel, process and release his anguish and heartbreak over the death of his girlfriend, who was killed by a drunk driver. Brandon Lee, whose famous father had passed away at the all too young age of 32, was cast to play the lead in the film version of the comic.
Many strange and awful circumstances surrounded what would nevertheless eventually emerge as a triumphant and transcendent film. As Time Magazine reported in 1993, sets were ravaged by a storm, a carpenter was almost electrocuted. »

Donnie Yen, Shu Qi and Anthony Wong have all joined the cast of Andrew Lau's new film, The Legend Of Chen Zhen, according to WuJing.org. The film is also being written and produced by Gordon Chan and Donnie Yen will provide the martial arts choreography. Chen Zhen is the same character that Jet Li played in Fist Of Legend and that Bruce Lee played in Fist Of Fury, and it seems that this will be a continuation of his story, rather than just a re-telling. Synopsis: The Legend of Chen Zhen is set 7 years after the reported death of Chen Zhen. He was showered with bullets following his vengeance on the Japanese at a dojo who are behind his mentor's death. A mysterious, wealthy entrepreneur returns from abroad and makes a grand entrance on the Shanghai social scene by befriending a notorious mafia boss. »

If the balletic and elegant fighting styles of Jackie Chan and Jet Li are the tap and swing of the martial arts world, then Tony Jaa and his Thai cohorts are practicing the Lambada. Jaa, who rose to international popularity in 2005 with Ong Bak, introduced the mainstream to the brutal and direct art of Muy Thai. Utilizing a mixture of feet, elbows and knees—and your head if you can figure a way to fit it in—Muy Thai is Jaa’s signature style. The two come in a package, and after a few other forays into the genre, they are both back with Ong Bak 2. The new entry ups the ante of the original by including more stunts, more enemies and a bigger budget which results in some of the most exciting fight scenes ever put to film.

Our five-part Halloween Week retrospective on "The Crow" continues, celebrating the film's 15th anniversary with cast and filmmaker interviews that explore its origin and legacy. Check back each day this week for another installment of our "15 Years Of Devil's Night" series.
Part Four: Best. Soundtrack. Ever?
"The Crow" soundtrack is quite possibly the greatest alt-rock compilation assembled in the '90s. Coupled with Graeme Revell's hauntingly moving score, bands like The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Machines Of Loving Grace perfectly complimented the movie's dark and romantic themes.
Even the bands who contributed cover songs selected material that lined up well with the flick, intentionally or not. Nine Inch Nails covered "Lost Souls," by one of The Crow creator James O'Barr's favorite bands, Joy Division. Rollins Band did a version of Suicide's "Ghost Rider," about the Marvel hero. Pantera »

Not only is it Halloween Week here on Splash Page, this year also marks the 15th anniversary of Brandon Lee's debut in the live-action adaptation of James O'Barr's dark comic book series "The Crow." With that in mind, we're celebrating with a five-part retrospective on the 1994 film, its origins and its legacy, culled from interviews with the cast and filmmakers behind director Alex Proyas' celebrated film. Check back each day this week for another installment of our "15 Years Of Devil's Night" series.
Part One: 52 Meetings From The Comic To The Screen
Sure, there's Richard Donner's Superman, the Christopher Nolan Batman films, but to many, "The Crow" remains the greatest comic book flick ever made.
The late, great Brandon Lee, who was killed in a tragic onset accident just days away from completing the film, completely embodied the pathos, grace, otherworldly invincibility and »

Before getting a chance to sit down and talk with Dean Haspiel (American Splendor, The Quitter, Billy Dogma) at the Alternative Press Expo, I met him at the Isotope Comics Lounge on the eve of Ape weekend for a pre-ape Isotope in-store bash. Currently, Haspiel is but one artist that is part of a larger collective of storytellers at Act-i-vate.
Recently, October saw the recent release of The Act-i-vate Primer by Idw Publishing, featuring new and original stories. While at the Isotope, I discovered Haspiel is as gracious and as nice as I could have imagined just sitting and talking with him as he signed and sketched a head shot of Harvey Pekar in my copy of The Quitter.
That night talking generally about the unique positivity that courses through the comic industry, Haspiel signs my Pekar sketch advising me to “never quit.” It’s good advice.

Is Muay-thai master Tony Jaa the next Jean-Louis Trintignan? If you’re one of those cinephiles who read this morning’s New York Times over scones and tea and frowned as Tony “Soprano” Scott’s review put a bullet in the head of Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist and Manohla Dargis crash-landed Hilary Swank’s blatant Oscar grab Amelia on the runway, you’re probably wondering, What’s an armchair intellectual to see this weekend? Well, the film factories of Southeast Asia might have a refreshing answer for you in Ong Bak 2: The Beginning. Those of you who remember when Tony Jaa first kneecap-smashed his way into our martial-arts hearts with the original Ong Bak may be wiping your monocle in disbelief as you read this recommendation. Yet, while you’re unlikely to find Anthony Lane and David Denby debating Jaa’s status as the new “New Bruce Lee, »

Editor's note: This week we're welcoming Mike Wong on board to write our weekly movie column.
Another week, another set of movies. Hard to believe it’s already nearly November when the Oscar-bait starts being dangled, and unless you didn’t see any movies last week, I’m sorry to say it’s a good week to stay home or do something not movie related.
The first of the wide releases this week is Amelia starring the swanky Hilary Swank in a movie that almost no one was waiting for. This biopic about Amelia Earhart, the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic, seems to have flown out of the Hollywood machine with every cliché and formulaic fixture intact. Currently scoring a 22% on Rottentomatoes.com, I’ll wager that it’ll probably experience some serious turbulence in the box office.

If I was still an impressionable young man more easily swayed by the martial arts skills of the cinematic heroes of my youth like Bruce Lee then I think I might have a Tony Jaa poster on my wall. Honestly, the guy totally kicks ass. Despite rumors of the actor/director losing his mind in the Cambodian jungles a la Coppola on Apocalypse Now, the film that resulted, Ong Bak 2: The Beginning features an international star at the top of his particular game right now, delivering continuously impressive vehicles for his gritty, ...Read more at MovieRetriever.com »

Golden Harvest, once one of the world's leading film studios, famed for such kung fu films as Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon in 1979 and later its Hollywood production of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is being revived. Now called Orange Sky Golden Harvest following its merger with Orange Sky Entertainment Group in 2007, the Hong Kong-based company said today (Wednesday) that it plans to release five movies a year and expand its theater chain from 12 to 600 venues over the next three years. At a news conference in Hong Kong, General Manager Chen Guowei said, "I hope we can become the most influential movie company in China that combines production, distribution and movie theaters in three years." Just 77 out of 152 hopefuls were left as day two of the So You Think You Can Dance Las Vegas callbacks shifted into the final and most difficult rounds of choreography. Wednesday's episode looked more like Bruce Lee fighting his way through adversaries in Game of Death than a dance competition, as the exhausted dancers found themselves up against the dreaded choreographer syndicate: Gibson, Michaels and Diorio, who brought one impossible routine after another, leaving some dancers injured and even more heartbroken. Laurieann Gibson kicked things off with a jazz number that was so tough it split up married pair Karen and Matthew Hauer. She squeaked by with a so-so from Nigel, but he wasn’t so lucky. The tough routine also took out Willem, the remaining same-sex ballroom dancer, and class act Iveta Lukosiute. Emmy-winning choreographer Mia Michaels dished out the next challenge. While many dancers cried before and after performing her routine, »

Curious to know what "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" looks like? Try asking Wes Anderson the next time you see him. Edgar Wright tweeted last night that the "Fantastic Mr. Fox" director got a sneak peek at the new film. In an earlier post, he also clarified "The Winstead Effect", which he defines as "the 15 minutes that gets lost when any member of the post production team look directly in Ramona's eyes."
On the other side of the Twittersphere, Jock tweeted triumphantly that Vertigo will reprint the first 12 issues of "The Losers" in a new paperback, which should give it a nice head start on the April film. You can also check out which creators were most excited about "Brutal Legend" and what it looks like when Whilce Portacio draws Iron Man and Wolverine.

• I mentioned back in June how, not to be outdone by Tokyo's life-size Gundam, Kobe decided to build a life-size replica of Gigantor (better known there as Tetsujin 28-go). The 60-feet tall statue was finally completed last week, and unlike the life-size Gundam—which has now been dismantled—the life-size Gigantor is a permanent fixture in Kobe's Wakamatsu Park.

Wesley Snipes will join Bad Lieutenant director Abel Ferrara for Game of Death, a film which likely has nothing at all to do with the Bruce Lee film of the same name.
Snipes, who seemed to be at a high a few years ago with a starring role in Blade Trinity, was last seen in the direct to video Art of War II: Betrayal. His career has been rocked by a three-year prison sentence for tax evasion, and he needs a film to get him back on track. Since the details regarding Game of Death’s plot are sparse, it’s hard to tell if this is the one that’ll do the trick. Snipes will simply play “a politician’s bodyguard who must fend off five of the world’s top assassins.”
Snipes and Ferrara previously worked together on King of New York in 1990. Game of Death will co-star »
