So the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez was last night's World Series hero, knocking a ninth-inning double for the go-ahead run and a 3-1 series lead against the Phillies. In tonight's Game 5, A. J. Burnett looks to mirror his one-run gem from last week as he takes the mound at Citizens Bank Park. With the Yanks possibly locking up the Fall Classic in a matter of hours, either of these guys could end up nabbing the series' Mvp award. Or the Phils could stage a comeback powered by Game 1 gods, Chase Utley and Cliff Lee.
Whatever happens, though, I know one thing: I detest both these teams because I am a heart-broken Mets fan (is there any other kind?). That's why when I think about ballplayers these days, I tend to think about movies. Cinema has given us some of the best and silliest sluggers and hurlers imaginable, and it is these »

After weeks of breathless speculation as to who would be riding George Miller's bleak highways of Mad Max: Fury Road, there's been a conformation. Variety reports that Charlize Theron has boarded the film, but that it'll be Tom Hardy (Bronson) who takes over the coveted lead. The script is being kept under tight wraps, so we still don't know if Mad Max: Fury Road will be a reboot or a sequel. Speculation has been rampant for more than twenty years, and as is the case with so many revived franchises, we'll probably end up being terribly wrong. Hopefully for the better.
So, we only know that Hardy is playing "the male lead. Will it be the Mad Max, made so iconic by Mel Gibson? Or will Max have taken on some kind of mythological, Robin Hood like status in the barren wasteland, and someone simply takes on the title? »

The action star directs this one-of-a-kind rock and roll hostage thriller
Dolph Lundgren has directed, maybe not the best film of the year, but certainly one of the coolest, strangest, funniest fuck-em-up hostage thrillers seen in (at least) the last five years. Not one to take himself or his image too seriously, Command Performance is a tour de force that proves the legendary muscle man (who first made his appearance known in Rocky IV as Russian boxer Ivan Drago) still has what it takes to decimate a room full of heavily armed bad guys. Its no lie when I say Command Performance is hands down the most fun you'll have with any action movie being released this year. It earns 2009's Mega-Awesome Achievement Award simply for having the balls to pull off many scenes like the one below:

Kevin Costner is so terrified of catching swine flu, he has barred his family from visiting him on tour with his band Modern West.
The Waterworld star's group is currently trekking around Europe - but Costner's wife Christine isn't among the adoring crowds the band is playing to.
The actor ordered her to keep their two young sons at home in the U.S. to minimise the risk of picking up a bout of influenza.
Costner says, "It is unusual that my family are not here because they usually are always with me.
"But I have been worried about swine flu and didn't want my small children with me on this trip." »

'The first I heard about it was people were suggesting me on the Internet for the part,' Jackie Earle Haley says.

For decades, Hollywood cast the person they thought would bring in the most money for a movie role, often resulting in some odd choices (Vince Vaughn in "Psycho," Kevin Costner in "Robin Hood," Keanu Reeves in virtually everything) that were largely rejected by audiences. But now, it's the 21st century, and the Internet has made film more of a conversation than a monologue. From Michael Chiklis as The Thing in "Fantastic Four" to Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in "Wolverine," several high-profile castings of the last few years have begun online — and Jackie Earle Haley couldn't be happier.
"The first I heard about it was people were suggesting me on the Internet for the part of Freddy. »

More Set Photos from Ridley Scott’s still untitled Robin Hood flick (although it looks like it will probably just be called “Robin Hood”) have surfaced online and as you can see from these images it still looks like a “Robin Hood” movie. In a recent interview on Australian television, Crowe said that the 1991 Kevin Costner film, “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” was “like watching an extended Jon Bon Jovi video clip.” I find that statement funny because I look at the costumes and locations for this movie and I feel like I’ve saw this upcoming Ridley Scott version back in 1991 when it was called “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves”. Hit the jump to see the set photos and why I think Scott’s “Robin Hood” won’t work.
Scott’s film will supposedly be a “realistic” take on the Robin Hood myth and that makes me even more uninterested in the movie. »

Exclusive: I’ve learned that UTA has hired CAA agent Darren Boghosian for its talent department. (And, no, this is not related to UTA talent agent Darren Statt wanting to leave for CAA. Just a coincidence of names.) Boghosian has been at CAA since 2002 and reps Jenna Elfman, Christian Slater, Michael Landes, Jaime Pressly, Alyssa Milano, Connie Nielsen, Kevin Costner, Justin Kirk, Anthony Anderson, Katharine McPhee, Sally Pressman, Rhys Coiro, Stephanie Szostack and others. But no word yet on which clients will be following him out the door. "He's smart, aggressive and well-liked around town, the kind of young agent [...] »

Torso, by Brian Michael Bendis, is one of the best graphic novels out there. A gritty and gripping hunt for a serial killer, its attention to detail is staggering, and its pace is better than most bestsellers. To say it'd make a great movie is a no-brainer, which is why I'm surprised that it's taken so damn long to get made!
Despite numerous false starts (once with David Fincher attached to direct), the author himself is telling us that there's still a chance we might see the serial killer epic realized for the big screen. Bendis talked to MTV recently about the status of the project:
"Last December we got the green light ... and then three days later there was no green light," he said. "Imagine you get a call, you won the lottery... [then] no, you didn't. It's much worse than never getting the call. It was a very exciting moment, »

Talk about confusing. Firstly, Waterworld was supposed to be a hit. It wasn.t. In fact it became a way to describe a bomb film. Secondly, Universal unwisely uses the box art for this new Blu-ray release that they used on the extended cut DVD release but doesn.t put on the extended cut. Help, I.m drowning. In the distant future, the polar ice caps have melted and flooded the world. Dry land is a thing of the past and humanity has taken up seaward existences. The Mariner (Kevin Costner) has come to a man made floating city to try and sell a jar of dirt, a valuable commodity in this watery time. During his bargaining it.s discovered that »

Ali Wise at the Richard Hambleton exhibition after-party in New York City, on September 15, 2009. From PatrickMcMullan.com. Last July, former Dolce & Gabbana publicist and girl-about-town Ali Wise was arrested and charged with computer trespass and eavesdropping for allegedly breaking into the voicemail of a romantic rival, according to a complaint filed with the Manhattan district attorney’s office. Her court case was scheduled for today. In addition to the charges, Wise endured a summer of shame on the social scene. But she’s not suffering alone.
