Is a Hawkman Movie to Follow Green Lantern?

24 December 2009 12:54 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Are Warner brothers and DC planning a Hawkman movie after Green Lantern? According to Pajiba, the winged hero is next in DC's line of Justice League heroes to get his own movie. Apparently, Warners is describing the project as "part Indiana Jones, part Da Vinci Code, and part Ghost," which is a confusing trio to use in describing another movie. Does this mean Hawkman will be deciphering ancient codes to find an archeological treasure while speaking though Whoopi Goldberg?

DC and Warners have long wanted to develop a Justice League movie, though they may be trying to launch individual movies first, like Marvel has done with their Avengers characters. Producer Dan Lin, who was at one point working on the Justice League movie, told Collider that a plan from DC will be announced early next year.

Mo'Nique Seems To Be Shunning Press Again For Precious

21 December 2009 9:56 PM, PST | The Humor Mill | See recent The Humor Mill news »

Several weeks ago we would have told you that Mo’Nique was a “shoo-in’ to get an Academy Award nomination for her work in Precious, and she was going to walk away with the Award and be the 2nd African American comedic actress since Whoopi Goldberg’s performance in Ghost to do so for Best Supporting Actress. Now, after today’s news and rumors floating around we are not so sure of anything.

What are we talking about? Well, according to numerous reports and sources, MoNique has decided to skip the New York Film Critics Awards next month, which is a great press opportunity for every actor associated with any film right before Awards season and during voting season. It is also a pivotal stop for those trying to win Any award during award season because those NY Critics have a lot of “pull” and more towards the votes that are cast. »

Barbara Walters dating Frank Langella? What about Whoopi?

21 December 2009 6:39 PM, PST | Zap2It - The Dish Rag | See recent Zap2It - The Dish Rag news »

The Dish Rag doesn't normally cover the social lives of octogenarians. Frankly, we don't care how famous you are, once you reach 50 you've pretty much earned the right to socialize with whoever you want without having to worry about getting caught in a walk of shame by the press.

But in the case of Barbara Walters and Frank Langella we're going to make an exception for two reasons.

1) If they are dating we're happy that they've managed to find someone close(ish) in age. Frank is 71; Babs is 80. 2) Frank used to live with Barbara's "View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg a decade ago.

Scandal!

The only problem is that none of this may be true. The New York Post is calling "The Box" actor Barbara's "new leading man" even though she told them "Frank and I have been friends for many years and will continue to be friends for many years, but it's not a romance. »

Anthony Marshall Gets Jail for Bilking Mother Brooke Astor

21 December 2009 2:51 PM, PST | TheImproper.com | See recent TheImproper.com news »

Anthony Marshall, the son of Brooke Astor, one of New York City’s most celebrated philanthropists, is moving from his posh penthouse to a bigger house – in fact, the really Big House. He was sentenced to jail today (Dec. 21) for strealing millions of dollars from his frail mother in a case of geezer greed gone wild. During the trial, prosecutors called celebrity friends such as ABC 20/20 host Barbara Walters and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger to testify on Astor’s behalf.NBC “Today Show” weatherman Al Roker, a parishioner at Marshall’s church, who praised him as a “good son, father and patriot.” Actress Whoopi Goldberg a friend and neighbor, told the judge in a letter that jailing him “would only amount to an unnecessary cruelty that would serve no real purpose.” »

Langella Not Dating Walters

21 December 2009 8:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Revered U.S. TV personality Barbara Walters has dismissed rumours of a romance with actor Frank Langella, insisting they are old friends.

The pair sparked speculation they were a couple earlier this month after Walters and Langella were spotted together in Washington, D.C. for the Kennedy Center Honors.

But Walters, 80, has denied claims their relationship is more than platonic.

She tells the New York Post's gossip column Page Six, "Frank and I have been friends for many years and will continue to be friends for many years, but it's not a romance."

Frost/Nixon star Langella, 71, has previously dated Ghost actress Whoopi Goldberg, Walters' co-host on U.S. talk show The View. »

Murphy Family Pays Tribute To Brittany

21 December 2009 4:01 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Brittany Murphy's family has paid tribute to the late actress, calling her their "shining star".

Hollywood was in shock on Sunday as news broke that the 32 year old had passed away at her California home, amid rumours she suffered a cardiac arrest.

Tributes began pouring in from her co-stars, including Whoopi Goldberg, and ex-boyfriend Ashton Kutcher, while Murphy's publicist asked for privacy for the family.

Now Murphy's relatives have released their own statement expressing their grief.

It reads: "The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy. She was our daughter, our wife, our love and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this time."

Meanwhile, Murphy's father Angelo Bertolotti remembers his daughter's shining personality.

He tells the Associated Press, "She was just an absolute doll since she was born. Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her - people that made movies with her, people on a cruise - they all loved her. She was just talented... And, I loved her very much."

An autopsy is expected to get underway on Monday or Tuesday (21/22Dec09). »

AfterElton.com's 2009 Visibility Awards!

20 December 2009 10:46 PM, PST | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

What?! It’s not enough that we spent the whole year providing you with insightful news and analysis on gay and bisexual entertainment – now we have to pick which 2009 projects we think best represented gay and bisexual men?!

Sorry, we’re getting a little Grinch-y around here come year-end.

But the fact is, gay and bisexual entertainment-related news is inexorably linked with the issue of visibility. If you know anything at all about the history of such entertainment, you know that it’s almost always been “controversial.” As passionate as the creators of these projects have always been, there’s been a similarly strong counter-pressure to keep these themes hidden or under wraps.

As a result, for a website like ours, covering the “news” of these projects inevitably becomes a question of championing the ones of quality (and giving the hook to those who don’t measure up, or that »

'Gordon Ramsay Cookalong': Delicious steak and I didn't even call myself 'donkey'

15 December 2009 7:00 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

I have two words for Gordon Ramsay: Yes, chef! Even after I volunteered to try to follow along with Gordon Ramsay: Cookalong Live on Fox Tuesday night, I was a bit skeptical. I have no TV in  my kitchen (thank you, DVR pause button!), the ingredients list was daunting (at least $100 in groceries to feed a family of four), and the menu sounded dated (in 2009, does anyone eat red meat in cream and brandy sauce!?). But despite all my fears, I found the experience a huge amount of fun, I had a smile on my face watching the show, »

Jake Gyllenhaal Wishes He Knew How to Quit the Octopus Fused to His Head

14 December 2009 9:30 AM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Back in late October, we teased you with a photo of Jake Gyllenhaal and Elmo, promoting the Brothers star's upcoming appearance on Sesame Street. The segment has finally aired, and featured Jake standing beneath a smiling octopus, its draped tentacles making him look a bit like Whoopi Goldberg. The two discuss the fact that they'd probably be better off not stuck together, and will therefore "separate" themselves. They eventually succeed and go their separate ways; Jake marries a rich rancher's daughter, but her father has him killed when he finds out he used to have an ongoing arrangement with an octopus. Then the octopus goes to Jake's parents' house and retrieves the hip waders Jake wore when they met, and clutches them to his chest and weeps. It's all very touching and tragic. »
