[Movie Review] It's Complicated

5 hours ago | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

There's no doubt that It's Complicated strongly resembles the past work of Nancy Meyers; the emphases on strained relationships, a target demographic slightly older than the traditional romantic comedy and a knack for finding the comedic in the lives of an aging generation echo the themes of her past films. It's Complicated takes the traditional love triangle concept and stands it up in the light of the nation's current divorce-rate. What does divorce mean? Can emotion really be turned off and on? Or does some of the light linger, waiting to be rediscovered later on? Superb performances by Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and a severely understated Steve Martin bolster this romantic comedy about the golden years (or the lack thereof) and how three "grown-ups" find an impromptu fountain of youth when they just let it all go. It will certainly sate the oft neglected funny bones of older crowds tired »

'Avatar' Crosses $300 Million Domestically In The Saturday Box Office Report

6 hours ago | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

1. "Avatar" ($25 million)

2. "Sherlock Holmes" (14.9 million)

3. "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" ($13 million)

4. "It's Complicated" ($7.1 million)

5. "The Blind Side" ($4.5 million)

Moviegoers are proving that Pandora is a planet worthy of multiple visits, as James Cameron's "Avatar" managed a first place finish on Friday evening, well on track for its third weekend victory in a row.

Cameron's 3D science fiction fantasy took in $25 million on Friday, bringing the movie's current domestic tally to $308.8 million in just fifteen days. Aside from "Avatar," only two other films have crossed the $300 million threshold quicker — "The Dark Knight" in ten days and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" in fourteen.

Given the stateside performance, "Avatar" is likely to have crossed over $800 million worldwide at this point, though that fact won't be entirely clear until foreign numbers are released on Sunday. Still, with a $476.2 million international gross as of Tuesday combined with the currently known $308.8 million domestic total, »

Review: It’s Complicated

1 January 2010 4:30 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It’s Complicated is a surprisingly enjoyable and delightful relationship comedy/drama staring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and a return to form comic performance from Steve Martin.

When I say surprisingly delightful and enjoyable I mean for me personally as I normally stay well away from these sort of films as they normally fail to offer anything more than a a mildly amused smirk from the corner of my mouth or a peer induced chuckle due to others giggling around me, and with Nancy Meyers Directing who Directed such bore inducing comas as The Holiday, What Women Want and Somethings got to give, I wasn’t expecting much but i was definitely more than mildly amused this time round.

The story is pretty uncomplicated and works nicely and if it wasn’t for the excellent cast it probably would have been another generic “Dramedy” that would be worth a rent from Lovefilm. »
