Prior to watching this trailer, I didn't know too much about Tom Ford's A Single Man except that it was one of three movies playing at Tiff this year with similar sounding titles (The Coen Brothers' A Serious Man and Brian Koppelman's Solitary Man being the other two). After watching this new trailer, I still can't say that I know very much about it, but in a way, that's actually a good thing. This is an artfully constructed trailer that relies more on atmosphere and imagery than plot elements to sell you on it (okay, and a little bit of Oscar buzz as well). Based on Christopher Isherwood novel, the movie stars Colin Firth as a gay college professor in the '60s who loses his lover and is stricken with grief. After a night out with his friend Charley (Julianne Moore), however, he starts to see the possibility of moving on with his life. »

Here’s the new trailer for Tom Ford’s ‘A Single Man’. The movie stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode, and Ginnifer Goodwin and it’s set for release 12th February. Currently, at the time of writing, it has 8.5 out of 181 votes on IMDb as well as winning awards at the Venice Film Festival. Expecting good things from this one.
Synopsis: ‘A Single Man’ is based on the novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood. Set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, it is the story of a British college professor (Colin Firth) who is struggling to find meaning to his life after the death of his long time partner. The story is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.

Tom Ford is a stylish man who's been around a lot more naked women than I have. I'd cry foul, but he's also been around a lot more naked men so instead I'll just call it even. He's been near the top of the fashion world for years, but now he looks to be expanding his resume by directing and co-writing a film. A Single Man has already received quite a bit of acclaim from showings at various festivals and has finally had it's first trailer released. The film stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode (Watchmen, The Lookout), Ginnifer Goodwin ("Big Love", "Ed"), and Nicholas Hoult (About a Boy, "Skins"). Check it out below. The trailer doesn't give away much (or anything really) about the plot, but it looks absolutely stunning doesn't it? It shouldn't come as a surprise since Ford's other career involves his keen eye for fashion and beauty, but »

One of the possible spoilers in this year's Oscar race is A Single Man, which could upset the apple cart for a few bigger ticket items thanks to the work of Colin Firth. He's already won the Best Actor prize at the Venice Film Festival, and the longer that race remains fairly open, the better his chances become.
It's also getting notice for Julianne Moore, who would be eying her fifth Oscar nomination since 1998, but her first since two nominations in 2003. It's not a film too many people had on their list heading into the fall. Being the debut feature for fashion designer Tom Ford, it may have seemed like one of those vanity projects you shouldn't take seriously. It's all different now.
In Contention has this film on its Oscar short list for nominations in three major categories, Best Actor, Supporting Actress, and Adapted Screenplay. And if they gave Oscars for trailers, »

The Weinstein Company has premiered the trailer Tom Ford's A Single Man, the critically acclaimed film which has been receiving extraordinary praise since its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. A Single Man stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode, and Ginnifer Goodwin and will be hitting theaters in mid-December for a brief Oscar qualifying run. I've been waiting to see a trailer for it because I have no clue what it's about. And I've got to say, this looks phenomenal, and it's frustrating that I still haven't seen it yet. The cinematography looks gorgeous, I really can't wait to experience this on the big screen. Take a look! If you like your footage silent and your quotes aplenty, then you're bound to love the trailer for Tom Ford's A Single Man. Yes, that Tom Ford.the American fashion designer turned Gucci posterboy. Word around town is that Ford single handedly brought Gucci out of near bankruptcy, skyrocketing it to a $4.3 billion value in 1999. Adapted from Christopher Isherwood's novel of the same name, A Single Man is the 48-year-old Austin native's directorial debut. Early reviews have been positive, and the film nabbed itself a cool nomination for a Golden Lion at the 66th Venice International Film Festival. Starring Colin Firth as a gay British professor living in Southern California, the cast rounds itself out quite nicely with support by Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode, and Nicholas Hoult. Poised for an Oscar-contending mini-release in December, the film won.t be going wide until early 2010. For a peak at what all »

About A Boy star Nicholas Hoult only landed the lead in Tom Ford's new movie A Single Man by chance - the designer-turned-director's first choice failed to show up for filming.
Ford is refusing to name the "well-known actor" who originally landed the part of Kenny in the acclaimed new movie, but admits Hoult wasn't even part of the cast in the weeks leading up to the first day of filming.
And the first-time director feels sure fate played a part in the end result.
He says, "The actor didn’t show up the first day he was due. He was attached for six months and we had made his costumes.
"It was so lucky and I cannot imagine anyone but Nicholas Hoult in that role. I had seen Nicholas’ tape a few weeks earlier and I was kind of kicking myself. I had a sick feeling inside that this guy was perfect for it and that I was working with another actor. But it just came together."
But replacing one of his leads at the last minute was the least of Ford's troubles - he also had to fund the film himself when finance fell through at the start of the world economic crisis.
Stumping up the $7 million (GBP4.3 million) he needed to make the movie, Ford had to shoot the film in just 21 days to avoid running over budget.
But Colin Firth, who stars in the film, credits the director for never losing his cool and always appearing to be in complete control, despite the huge financial pressure on him.
The Brit says, "He was always immaculately dressed, he was always calm. He made sure that any anxieties were not communicated to anyone else."
The Oscar-tipped movie also features Julianne Moore, Ginnifer Goodwin and Matthew Goode. »

Looks like America’s favorite comedy has snagged yet another A-list guest star! The latest celeb who will be dropping by 30 Rock is Julianne Moore! We first heard buzz about the possibility earlier this week. E! News was reporting that Moore would appear on the show. And Alec Baldwin himself even said, "I won't say who it is, but someone very near to us who may be coming on to play my girlfriend for four episodes." Julianne's rep would give up any deets, saying, "You would need to contact NBC for an official answer.” But now... »

It wouldn't be a 30 Rock season if Alec Baldwin didn't have a much-awarded actress come in to play his new girlfriend, and E! reports that Julianne Moore (soon to be Oscar-nominated for A Single Man) is this year's model. The two have started filming scenes together in New York, and between takes, we'd like to imagine Baldwin's is using Moore as a sounding board for both potential Oscar banter and Huffington Post blog subjects. Let's hope she has a big German following! [E!] »

It seems that the gang at 30 Rockefeller Plaza have gotten a new addition to the cast. E! Online is reporting that actress Julianne Moore was spotted in New York City today filming scenes for the hit NBC comedy 30 Rock.
The site reported yesterday that Moore was reportedly going to play a new love interest for Alec Baldwin's Jack Donaghy character, and now some New Yorker's have contacted the site, confirming they saw her filming scenes with Baldwin today at Rockefeller Center. Here's what one passerby had to say.
"I saw them right around 3 o'clock. To be honest, I can't remember what they were wearing (too distracted by how pretty Julianne was), and during the time I saw them they were in between takes, so not really saying anything of note. They looked verrrrry chummy though! No one else from the cast appeared to be there."
Baldwin himself did confirm »

- The French film from which The Tourist is based from (Anthony Zimmer) contains a narrative DNA that is very kaiser soze, but to be frank about it, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Spyglass Entertainment is seeing a lot of action for a tale about a wanted man...its mostly due to scheduling conflicts. Male lead Sam Worthington has jumped ship and an even better replacement in Johnny Depp might take the part. Meanwhile, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck who just recently considered taking helming duties has dropped the pic, and Alfonso Cuaron, who showed off some skill with the thriller format in Children of Men (that infamous scene with Julianne Moore at the wheel is stellar) is looking to replace him. Scripted by Julian Fellowes, Bill Wheeler and Chris McQuarrie, this concerns an American tourist (formerly Tom Cruise, then Sam Worthington and perhaps Depp) who finds »
