The most remarkable thing about Stop-Loss, director and co-writer (working with Mark Richard) Kimberly Peirce's first film since 1999's Oscar-winning Boys Don't Cry, is that it isn't anti-war. It is, in fact, very pro-soldier, looking at the fighting men and women our country sends over to the Middle East with a teary-eyed reverence that's difficult to resist. These are our sons and daughters, our brother and sisters. These are our friends. These are our neighbors. These are the people we see each day of our lives. I liked this movie back when it was released in theaters at the end of March. I love it now. These are people audiences can relate to and understand, their commitment to their country and to one another as strong and as vital as their own. The war isn't the issue here, the people are, and anyone who has been affected by this

Everyone’s a moviemaker. But while these affecting stories are making their way beyond army barracks and war zones via email and other Internet tools, rarely do they reach the masses. Sometimes it takes a skilled hand and a known face to alert the public to a greater social purpose. In her second film, Stop-loss, writer-director Kimberly Peirce—along with the film's stars, Ryan Phillippe, Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Abbie Cornish—has put a mirror to the government, asking that they see soldiers as more than numbers, but as human beings—with families

U.S. TV host Jay Leno is determined to put his recent controversial remarks about homosexuality behind him - by appearing at a gay pride event.
The chat show king sparked outrage among gay rights groups by asking actor Ryan Phillippe to give him his "gayest look" during an interview.
Phillippe recently revealed his first paid acting role was as a gay teen on TV soap One Life To Live, and comic Leno decided to poke fun at his admission when he was a guest on his late night show in March. He was subsequently forced to apologise for his comments.
But Leno has now signed up to appear at a gay marriage celebration and rally in West Hollywood on Thursday night, alongside gay Grey's Anatomy star T.R. Knight.
California recently legalised gay marriage and the event will see a group of couples tie the knot in celebration of the state's new law - and Leno insists he will attend to voice his support for the cause.
A spokesperson for the event says, "He said that he is from Massachusetts and that the sky did not fall in their state when marriage equality became the law of the land there.
"He wants to impress upon everyone here in California that the sky will not fall here either."

Hollywood actor Ryan Phillippe fears his worries about the paparazzi have given his daughter Ava a nervous disposition.
The Crash star - who has Ava, eight, and son Deacon, four, with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon - admits he often became angry and snapped at photographers when they tried to take pictures of his daughter when she was a baby.
And Philippe is convinced his fearful reactions have had a negative affect on his little girl.
He says, "She's aware and it creates in her a lot of anxiety, which is partly my fault. When Ava was very young, I'd get visibly angry with the paparazzi back then.
"She was my first child and my instinct was to protect her. I think the attitude I had at the time did create in her a lot of the fearfulness she has today."
But Phillippe is relieved that his anxieties did not rub on Ava's younger brother, Deacon.
He adds, "Mainly because since his birth I've realised that you've got to make it seem like less of a big deal."

Actor Ryan Phillippe has been caught up in an April Fool's Day sex tape prank.
The Flags Of Our Fathers star was confronted with the 'leaked' raunchy footage as part of a skit on Tuesday's edition of U.S. chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Playing along with the joke, Phillippe pretended to be embarrassed and denied any involvement in the X-rated videotape.
He said, "Oh man. First of all, it is not me. I know it looks like me, and people say it sounds like me, but it's not me."
During the murky clip, Phillippe is seen setting up the video camera before he starts romping with Kimmel's middle-aged female security guard Veatrice, who is less than amused with the hunk's bedroom techniques.
Veatrice critiques, "Let mama show you how it's done... I want you to get the f**k up off my leg, Ryan Phillippe! You're crushing it, you son of a bitch, get off! Get the f**k up off of me! What you been eating? Your breath smells..."
