Weaver Hit With Lawsuit

14 November 2009 6:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Sigourney Weaver has been named in a $5 million (£3.1 million) lawsuit over a business deal involving a cosmetics company she part-owns.

The Alien actress is a minority shareholder in the business, and owner Vincent Longo is being sued by Anthony Minuto after a transaction between the pair turned sour.

Weaver is named as a defendant in the lawsuit, which was filed in New York on Friday, despite Minuto admitting she had no involvement in the deal, according to TMZ.com.

He says, "Weaver is named a party defendant herein for no reason other than... she is a minority shareholder of the Corporation and this action seeks declaratory relief against the corporation."

Minuto is seeking nearly $5 million (£3.1 million) in damages and wants 25 per cent of the company. »

20th Century Fox has been released a new extended TV spot for James Cameron’s “Avatar” and you can see some new footage from the anticipated movie.

The story’s hero is Jake Sully, a former Marine (Sam Worthington) confined to a wheelchair. Bitter and disillusioned, he’s still a warrior at heart. All Jake ever wanted was something worth fighting for, and he finds it in the place he least expected: on a distant world.

Jake has been recruited to join an expedition to the moon Pandora, which corporate interests are strip-mining for a mineral worth $20 million per kilogram on Earth.

To facilitate their work, the humans use a link system that projects a person’s consciousness into a hybrid of humans and Pandora’s indigenous humanoids, the Na’vi. This human-Na’vi hybrid – a fully living, breathing body that resembles the Na’vi but possesses the individual human’s thoughts, »

Could Avatar be a Cutting-Edge White Elephant?

12 November 2009 4:01 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

I bought my ticket for Avatar at the IMAX last week. I got an E-mail from BFI announcing they were on sale. I rushed to my computer, and inevitably the website was struggling to cope with the sheer volumes of people trying to buy tickets. After fifteen minutes of refresh, refresh, refresh (not bad) I managed to get in, get a ticket for Thursday 16th (right of the middle) , and breathed a huge sigh of relief. I’d managed to get one before they sold out!

Now, over a week later, there are still tickets available. What? Avatar, James Cameron’s feature film follow up to the biggest grossing movie ever, Titanic? Avatar, the film tipped to advance 3D film technology to unheard of levels? Avatar, 12 years and (allegedly) $350 million in the making? I’d always considered the Imax a bit too much of a gimmick. It was a big screen, »

New TV Spot for Avatar

8 November 2009 3:31 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

We’ve had a couple of trailers now for James Cameron’s Avatar and so far it’s focused more on the battle with the Na’vi. This new TV spot was released on the Cartoon network and has a nice Disney-style voice over on it where we get to see a bit more footage. The British Board if Film Classification (BBFC) hasn’t rated the movie yet as far as I can tell but after this appearing on the Cartoon Network, I assume it’ll be a PG or a 12a. More info as we get it.

Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver and if you haven’t seen the trailer already, you can view it here. Counting down the days now for Avatar – 18th December is it’s release date.

Cameron Led Jungle Expedition For Avatar Stars

8 November 2009 3:06 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Moviemaker James Cameron sent the cast of his new movie Avatar off to the jungle for bonding bootcamp exercises before he started shooting the upcoming epic.

The Titanic director called on stars including Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana to get a feel for rainforest life, so they could better play their jungle-dwelling characters in the film.

He tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, "We did a sense-memory experiment in Hawaii. We trekked around the rainforest for three days, building campfires and cooking fish, trying to live tribally."

And Saldana insists Cameron's pre-filming jungle expedition was a great idea: "That experience helped us so much. Sigourney, Sam and I were shooting the movie on a regular cement floor on a soundstage, but we needed to know what it was like to walk in a jungle world, what that felt like." »

Simon Pegg Updates Paul

7 November 2009 2:03 PM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

There hasn't been much word regarding Simon Pegg's newest film, Paul, about two British slackers who decide to go to Area 51 in search of aliens after a trip to Comic-Con only to discover an actual alien. There's been one still released, which doesn't really show very much, and actor Jason Bateman talked about getting a gift from his Paul co-stars, but that's about it.

Apparently, even Pegg is aware of the lack of news, because he recently offered an update to his fans in the forum of his web-site.

Hi all

Thought you might like to hear how things are going on the Paul front. It's been a while since we wrapped now and with the absence of Lance B's video blogs, I guess things must seem to have gone very quiet. Rest assured the good (space)ship Paul is progressing apace.
