We've got one more trailer to squeeze in before Christmas, and I think it's one a lot of people have been waiting to see: Kevin Smith's latest comedy Cop Out (formerly known as A Couple of Dicks)! This is the first time Kevin Smith has directed from someone else's script, and lucky for him, the script by Robb Cullen and Mark Cullen was on the 2008 Black List of best unproduced screenplays. He also has a pretty awesome cast in Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan and Seann William Scott. So does it look like Cop Out is going to be one of the best comedies of 2009? Well... uh, I'm not so sure about that. I have to be honest, the trailer didn't really do much for me. I thought the intro was kind of clever, but other than that, there wasn't really much here that made me laugh. I do think »

With the trailer for his buddy cop movie starring Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis just having hit the Internet, director Kevin Smith railed in his signature, profanity-heavy style to Entertainment Weekly’s Hollywood Insider blog on just why he agreed to Cop Out on the flick’s original title, A Couple of Dicks.
It was already fairly well known that the big three TV networks balked at the original title because they wouldn’t be able to air commercials before 9 p.m. (yes, really), but hearing him describe the situation can still bring a smile to the face of anyone who loves their language more than a little salty. Here’s a taste of what he told EW:
Smith: Look, losing A Couple of Dicks was almost akin to losing my own dick. It was a perfect buddy-cop movie comedy title. Everyone knew it. You couldn’t say that title »

After months of debate, Warner Bros. and Kevin Smith have finally come to terms on a title for their newest picture The movie, now known as Cop Out, stars Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan, and Sean William Scott.
The film, originally titled “Couple of Dicks” then a “Couple of Cops”, is the story of two cops who are trying to find a rare and very expensive baseball card, and the fanatical gangster who wants it. Willis’ character, Jimmy, needs to get the card back in order to pay for his daughter’s wedding. His partner, Paul (Morgan), is too obsessed with his wife’s infidelity to really stay focused on the job.
Having gone through that synopsis, this trailer covers none of that. What we get is a lot of Willis and Morgan being funny, and a movie that looks (almost) nothing like anything that Kevin Smith has ever done before. »

The cop comedy formerly known as A Couple of Dicks, now Cop Out, has premiered its trailer. Warner Bros. has unleashed the trailer for the film directed by Kevin Smith which stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. The film is sort of an ode to the 80s buddy cop films.
Two longtime NYPD partners on the trail of a stolen, rare, mint-condition baseball card find themselves up against a merciless, memorabilia-obsessed gangster. Jimmy (Bruce Willis) is the veteran detective whose missing collectible is his only hope to pay for his daughter’s upcoming wedding, and Paul (Tracy Morgan) is his “partner-against-crime” whose preoccupation with his wife’s alleged infidelity makes it hard for him to keep his eye on the ball.

If you want a movie where Tracy Morgan plays Tracy Jordan, Bruce Willis plays a shelled version of John McClane, and, somewhere in there, there’s a Kevin Smith film that’s just screaming to be let out, then Cop Out is the flick for you. It’s the first of its kind, a film directed by Smith that wasn’t written by Smith, and it shows. Writers Rob and Mark Cullen also wrote the pilot episode of Manchild, the male bonding comedy that was never picked up for a full series and also starred Smith.
Having said that, the new trailer released today over on Apple doesn’t feel like the new film directed by one of the most fan-followed writer/directors of our time. It feels like precisely what it is, a director for hire working from a buddy cop screenplay that’s giving about as much effort »

Kevin Smith's Cop Out (formerly A Couple of Dicks) has its first trailer online at Apple -- and if you knew absolutely nothing about it, you might find it only mildly amusing. Don't get me wrong, it's funny! But other than a few scenes of wit and a few glimpses of guns, there's nothing that would suggest that it's throwback to the 1980s, or this generation's Road House. It's really cut to look like Generic Cop Comedy, heavy on the Tracy Morgan shenanigans, low on plot, and free of any Kevin Smith. Smith's name isn't even on the trailer, which I suppose isn't too surprising (I mean, Iron Man doesn't exactly slap Jon Favreau on its trailers either), but it suggests the studio doesn't want to alienate those who associate Smith with dick jokes and controversy.
Still, there's glimpses of truly funny stuff here. I love the "I was in the moment! »

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the first time Kevin Smith is directing a film taken from another writer's script. That's a strange position to be in because by his own admission, Smith is a more valuable writer than he is a director. The film used to be called A Couple of Dicks, a play on the familiar name for detectives, but naturally, the studio got cold feet and went with the lobotomized title Cop Out. Having seen the trailer, the title isn't the only thing that appears to have had part of its brain removed.
Smith has Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as a pair of mismatched cops, and would you believe it, the black guy has a big personality and a bigger mouth while the white guy is a grizzled old veteran of the force? Well...I guess it's at least better than Bruce and Tracy Make a Porno. »

The trailer for Kevin Smith's new comedy Cop Out with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan just hit last night. The title of the original script was A Couple of Dicks, which is clever, but sadly too offensive for some. At one point it almost became A Couple of Cops, but the trailer confirms that it's officially Cop Out now, which is a "cop out" of its own. Anyway, Kevin Smith spoke with Entertainment Weekly and gave them the lowdown on the name change, including why it happened and other alternatives. "Look, losing A Couple of Dicks was almost akin to losing my own dick. It was a perfect buddy-cop movie comedy title. Everyone knew it." You should read the whole story on EW.com, as Kevin's stories are awesome. Here are the important parts: Warner Bros. decided, "Hey man, we'll call the networks and see if we're going to »

I was reading an interview with Kevin Smith over at Entertainment Weekly on how his buddy cop feature starring Bruce Willis and Tracey Morgan at Warner Bros. went from the working title of A Couple of Dicks to Cop Out, and the short story is rather obvious and boring, but their attempt to get it worked out is a bit interesting. Before watching the trailer, here's a snippet: Warner Bros. decided, "Hey man, we'll call the networks and see if we're going to get any problems, months before the movie's ever going to come out." The top 3 networks -- CBS, ABC, NBC -- said we can't run one of your spots before 9 o'clock.
I'm like, "Well what about Inglourious Basterds?" And I guess, because of the spelling, they got away with it. So we were like, "Can we call it A Couple of D.I.C.s?" Because that's the proper acronym for detectives, »

Kevin Smith’s Couple of Dicks, Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan have themselves a trailer, and the recently retitled Cop Out is a pretty good indication of Smith’s continuing maturity in visual style.
It’s a well cut trailer and shows off the stars enjoying themselves but it doesn’t seem to have that Kevin Smith vibe, almost as if this was a different Kevin Smith behind the camera. The studio will try and target as many people as possible and fans of Smith will know that his involvement will guarantee something special. So, check it out below and see what you make of it.
Head on to Apple for the trailer in the very highest of definition, or watch below.

The first trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures' "Cop Out" has been made available for viewing pleasure. Making its way out via Apple, the video gives the first look at two longtime NYPD partners, Jimmy and Paul, whose actions in tracking down a stolen vintage baseball card create funny moments in the film.
The film follows Jimmy, whose missing collectible is his only hope to pay for his daughter's upcoming wedding, and his partner Paul, whose preoccupation with his wife's alleged infidelity makes it hard for him to keep his eye on the ball. The two veteran cops are on a stolen, rare, mint-condition baseball card case, which leads them rescuing Gabriela and dealing with gangsters and their money laundering.
Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan take the roles of the cop duo. They are additionally joined by Seann William Scott, Ana de la Reguera and Adam Brody in the cast ensemble. »

It's the moment lots of you have been waiting for: the first proper look at Kevin Smith's new film, Cop Out, starring Bruce Willis and 30 Rock's Tracy Morgan.Formerly known as A Couple Of Dicks (stupid Us TV networks and their advertising rules), the movie follows a pair of NYPD 'tecs as they get tangled up with mobsters, a stolen baseball card and a sexy female witness. Though you'd be hard pressed to guess most of that from this first glance. And how is it? Er… Based on the evidence of the trailer, it would be better off if we referred to it as Studio Produced Cop Comedy Drama 6179. There are some slick titles, a fast-cut montage of scenes that show Willis and Morgan bickering (and point up that Sean William Scott and Morgan work better as comedy partners than the leading duo), with the processed feeling of generic comedy. »

Kevin Smith has emphasized over and over again that Cop Out--or A Couple of Dicks, if you're traditional-- is not his movie, but a movie written by someone else that he was hired to direct. And now that the first trailer has hit Apple.com, it's pretty clear why-- there's not much about this movie that resembles what you'd see from Kevin Smith, from the simple fact that it's a cop movie to most of the jokes. Not that it's bad-- even though most of the jokes in the trailer feel pretty standard, there's a lot of potential in putting Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis together as cop partners. But Smith's diehard fans might not find much reason to see this except for devotion to their fearless leader, even if regular moviegoers might enjoy themselves having no idea who the director is. I've never been a Kevin Smith fan. I always thought he was a horrible director (Clerks & Zack & Miri the exception) and his movies are borish dreck. Of course, fans of Kevin Smith will say I'm an idiot and have no taste, which is all Kevin Smith fans can say about anyone who doesn't idolize their false prophet. Thank God I don't live in that universe. Being a Kevin Smith fan is almost as bad as being a juggalo. Actually, those people are usually one and the same. Yes, there will be comments on how I suck because I don't like Mallrats or whatever, etc. but honestly, it's just my opinion. If you're a fan of Kevin Smith, more power to you. But if you happen to be a fan of Icp, then I shall pray for your lost soul. The first trailer for Kevin Smith's new "movie" Copout (formerly »

For some time we have been following the buddy cop comedy that was once refreshingly called A Couple of Dicks, then boringly A Couple of Cops, and finally settled on the somewhere-in-between Cop Out. The film represents Kevin Smith’s first directorial effort which he did not also script, and stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as a police team whose “adventures include locating a stolen baseball card, rescuing a woman, and dealing with gangsters and their laundered money”. Today, Warner Brothers released the first trailer for the film.
So far, I have been looking forward to this film, partly because I would like to see how Smith does with a film free of his distinct writing style, and partly because I like the comedic potential of the partnership between Morgan and Willis. This trailer did nothing for me, though. It relies heavily on Tracy Morgan lines, and in this »

More so than any other director’s works, you can very visibly track the progression of Kevin Smith’s personal life and career through films like Clerks, Dogma, Zack and Miri, etc. It’s helped by the way he exposes his life via the internet and podcasting, but you can definitely get a sense of where he is today compared to the man he was when he made Mallrats.
Now check out this trailer:
What’s unsettling about this new trailer for Cop Out, his action-comedy starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan — the first real studio film he’s been attached to, without a script of his own creation — is that it buries both Smith’s name and stylistic sensibilities.
For studios, I’m guessing that’s a great thing — Zack and Miri definitely was not a knock-out at the box-office. To longtime fans, it’s disconcerting. What does this step mean, »

Warner Bros. just released the first trailer for Kevin Smith’s Cop Out (previously known as A Couple Of Dicks) and it’s…not funny. I must say, the odd pairing of Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan was a pretty bold but smart move and I really, really want to like this movie. It’s just that, I didn’t chuckle or “heh” once while watching this trailer. Methinks it has a lot to do with the zero presence Kevin Smith’s humor had in this green band trailer. This is the first film Smith has directed that he didn’t write (brothers Mark and Robb Cullen wrote the script), but I’m still expecting to laugh at some point. For now, I’m going to keep my expectations at a bare minimum until I see some punch lines mixed with foul language in red band trailer.
