Top 50 Performances of the Decade (Male)

3 hours ago | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

They aren't ranked. Deal with it. I must thank these 47 actors again (three performers have two entries) one last time for delivering such indelible characterizations these past ten years. Bid them adieu before moving on to a fresh decade, the Teens. You may notice that this list includes no 2009 performances. It's too early! I don't wanna give away my upcoming nominees and I still need time to let the year settle. My dozen favorites are selected rather impulsively in red. And with "best/favorites" it's always subject to change with the passing of time... or moods.

Adrien Brody, The Pianist (2002)Andy Serkis, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) *

Part 4: From Oh no to Robin Hood

Oh No

...Not you again. It's sequels a-go-go in 2010

Another year, another Harry Potter; well, half of one. Part one of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows is destined for a dust-up with the next Narnia movie, Voyage Of The Dawn Treader, next Christmas. Other usual suspects with sequel-denying titles include Shrek Forever After (Aka Shrek 4), Little Fockers (Meet The Parents 3), and Eclipse, part 3 of the Twilight saga. More enticing are a product recall for the Toy Story gang, who must escape a daycare centre, and Iron Man 2, which pits Robert Downey against Mickey Rourke. And let's see how the recession affects the shopping of Manhattan's first ladies in Sex And The City 2.

Pacific

Band of Brothers follow-up plus more Us drama

As you'd expect from Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and the crew that produced Band Of Brothers, Pacific (spring, »

Sandra Bullock Named Top Box Office Star of 2009

1 January 2010 3:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

In an annual Quigley Publishing Company list, Sandra Bullock was named the top box office draw of 2009. The list is not based on strict box office numbers, but on exhibitor polling of what stars they perceive as the biggest theatrical draws. The theatre owners gave the nod to Bullock based on the success of The Proposal (which grossed $315 million worldwide) and The Blind Side (whose domestic take is at $190 million and counting).

It's a strong comeback for the 45-year old actress, whose drawing power has been spotty over the past ten years. Her last starring role before 2009's triple-header (which also included the bomb All About Steve) was in 2007's Premonition, which opened to lukewarm numbers.

Sandra Bullock is the first woman to top the list since 1999, when Julia Roberts took the number one spot. Bullock is followed on the list, in order, by Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, George Clooney, »

What's Hot on SlashControl: The Private Lives of Sherlock Holmes

1 January 2010 3:00 PM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Sherlock Holmes is in theaters right now starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law as the bromantic pair of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. But there have been many incarnations of the iconic characters, including the one embedded below from our sister site, SlashControl.

The Private Lives of Sherlock Holmes is directed by Billy Wilder and stars Robert Stephens as the great detective, with Colin Blakely playing Dr. Watson. It was released in 1970 and finds a bored Holmes eagerly taking the case of Gabrielle Valladon (Genevieve Page) after an attempt on her life. The search for her missing husband leads to Loch Ness and the legendary monster. That Holmes gets around, doesn't he?

I really enjoyed the current film playing in theaters. Although the plot drags a bit, no detail was missed in the setting or clothing from that era (late 1800s in London). Do you have a favorite version of Sherlock Holmes? »

Director's Cut: Patrick's top 10 for 2010

1 January 2010 1:34 PM, PST | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

In the days of Coming Attractions 1.0, at the end of every year I would write a list of what, at that time, were the movies that I was most looking forward to seeing in the coming 12 months. These upcoming top 10 lists reflected the excitement and interest level I had at the end of December. As I entered the new year and new trailers, images and news trickled out about the films that landed on my list, some fell down and off the chart while other new ones emerged and replaced the fallen. Keep that in mind as you read what movies I'm the most excited to see in 2010 because the promise of a movie's greatly conceived of marketing campaign can often fall short of the final product. Which ones from the following list will remain on my best of 2010 list and which movies will crash and burn on the bonfire of hype? »

Sandra Bullock has been voted the Top Money-Making Star of 2009 in Quigley Publishing Company’s 78th Annual Poll of Exhibitors and is the first female to win since Julia Roberts in 1999. Bullock is the eighth woman chosen #1 in the Poll’s 78 year history. She appeared in three films in 2009, “The Blind Side,” “The Proposal” and “All About Steve.”

Johnny Depp placed second this year based on “Public Enemies” and a small role in “The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus.” He was #1 in 2006 and 2007. Matt Damon made his second appearance in the survey, placing #3 with 2009 roles in “Invictus” and “The Informant!” Although George Clooney, placing #4, has never won in his seven mentions in the Poll, he had an extremely productive year with “Up in the Air,” “The Men Who Stare at Goats” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox“(voice). Robert Downey Jr.’s performances in “Sherlock Holmes” and “The Soloist” helped him place #5. He »

Matt’s Top 20 Films of the 2000s

31 December 2009 7:14 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

I’ve really enjoyed the lists I’ve posted this week and I hope you have too.  I keep notes year-round on everything I feel is worth noting about particular movies so I don’t forget and I can compile it into what (hopefully) makes or an informative read.  However, this list I’ve been dreading.  Unlike the other lists, there’s no real recommendation at work here.  It’s a list designed to highlight mostly beloved and established films.  It’s also difficult to factor in films of 2008 and 2009 because I don’t know their staying power.  Finally, it’s a list that will ultimately please no one because there’s no way I can narrow the hundreds of great films that have come out over the last ten years into twenty that I’ve determined are better than all the rest.  So why am I doing it?  I have my reasons. »
