At first Bill Murray was a goofball, a lounge singer or a guy that tried to blow up a gopher. Graduating to movie stardom, he soon found a style of detached cool that worked like gangbusters, or ghostbusters. In movies like Stripes and Ghostbusters, he would make wry comments while the rest of his co-stars acted their parts; he rarely got involved in the drama. But it worked. Analysis: A timely parable on war, or Hollywood propaganda filmmaking at its worst? Wherever it goes, especially in Europe and the former Soviet states, "Georgia" will cause a lot of talk and controversy as the incidents depicted are still so fresh in many's minds. When Anthony Hopkins finishes his work as Odin in Marvel's adaptation of Thor, Variety reports he will play a different icon — Ernest Hemingway in Andy Garcia's Hemingway and Fuentes.
Hemingway and Fuentes is the first movie Garcia has directed since making his 2005 debut, The Lost City. It chronicles the two decades Hemingway spent in Cuba fishing with best friend Gregorio Fuentes. The project became a personal one for Garcia, who plans to play Fuentes, after meeting some of the men who fished with Hemingway.

I don't think we ever reported on it at the time, but back in March Andy Garcia was talking up a film called Hemingway and Fuentes, about the friendship between Ernest Hemingway and his fishing partner and longtime friend Gregorio Fuentes. At the time, Anthony Hopkins was loosely attached to play Hemingway. That casting has now firmed up, and the film will move forward with Annette Bening also aboard as Mary Hemingway. Garcia wrote the script with Hemingway's granddaughter Hilary Hemingway, and he will direct the film in addition to co-starring as Fuentes. Variety reports that it's a project Garcia says he's been interested in for thirty years, since he first fished alongside men who knew the author. Anthony Hopkins has agreed to play Ernest Hemingway in Andy Garcia's biopic, Hemingway And Fuentes. The film is a drama about the two decades Hemingway spent in Cuba that ultimately led to the creation of his Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Old Man and the Sea, his final book published before he shot himself in the head with his own prized shotgun.
Garcia teamed up with Hemingway's granddaughter to pen the script, with the film focusing mainly on his close friendship with Gregorio Fuentes and their love for deep-sea fishing. Anthony Hopkins is to play American literary legend Ernest Hemingway in Andy Garcia's new movie about the writer's relationship with the Cuban fisherman who inspired his novel The Old Man & The Sea.
Garcia will play the fisherman, Gregorio Fuentes, in Hemingway & Fuentes, and Annette Bening has signed on to play the writer's third wife, Mary.
Garcia will also direct the film next year from a script he wrote with Hemingway's granddaughter Hilary, according to Daily Variety.

It's amazing that there haven't been more films made about the life of Ernest Hemingway. Unfortunately, the lone representation of him on screen is In Love and War. Yes, that movie with Chris O'Donnell. Snore. The guy lived such a full and eventful life, you'd imagine that Hollywood would have tapped the Hemingway well long ago.
