Before I start gushing about just how great this cartoon and, by connection, this set are, let’s establish two things. First, for every good thing I have to say about the entire set I include a single footnote: this should be available in a Blu-ray release as well, the animation would be sharper and bolder, the audio would be stunning and the entire package would have had that much more relevance considering the current trends of digital media. Second, this is so much more than just a ‘cartoon’. As is said a few times in the extra features of the series, Justice League may be the greatest superhero animated series to have ever existed. So what does that imply about this complete series set? One of the best ever?

I woke up Sunday morning, slid into my skinny jeans, a low-cut, tight black shirt, and stilettos; and slipped on a pair of shades. There's something about going to visit the set of a series that has been labeled "slick," "sexy," and "dangerous" that just makes a gal want to look good...even at 7:00 a.m. And just why was I dragging myself out of bed at such a god-awful hour on a weekend? To get a first-hand glimpse of the shooting of The Bannen Way, the highly anticipated new web series from Sony Pictures Television set to debut on Crackle.com this January. In case you missed the story: Jesse Warren and Mark Gantt debuted the trailer last August, the cybersphere went wild over the racy action series, Icm signed the duo and then Sony snatched up the project based on the strength of the trailer and the scripts the pair had written. »

The cast also includes Elaine Hendrix, Ken Howard, genre fave Michael Ironside (second photo with Everett Sifuentes) and Marnette Patterson; Vincent Guastini created the makeup FX. Plenty of juicy tidbits released today from Crackle's highly anticipated action thriller web series The Bannen Way. It's no secret we're hot on this one, and for good reason. It's one of the rare few web series that landed a major studio deal on just a trailer. Sure it was a slick and sexy teaser shot on the Red One, but still an indie series from the get-go. Of course now it's a full-on Sony Pictures Television project, and is currently shooting in downtown Los Angeles prepping for its January 2010 release on Crackle.com. Creators Jesse Warren, who directs the series, and Mark Gantt, who plays the titular con man Neal Bannen, have pulled together a cast worth writing about like Michael Ironside as Bannen's police chief father and Robert Forster as his mafia boss uncle. Former General Hospital and Las Vegas star Vanessa Marcil plays Bannen's love interest Madison »

Michael Stokes' film The Beacon , we've been informed, is now taking the moniker Haunting at the Beacon . That's revised sales artwork you see on the right - a contrast to what we had shown you in March . The film played to Paranoia Film Festival audiences around that time and it appears to still be seeking distribution. Teri Polo, David Rees Snell, Michael Urie and Michael Ironside star. You can watch the trailer right here ! An updated synopsis is below. Perhaps it's not Stokes' fault, but it seems that sales rep American World Pictures is trying to cash in on The Haunting in Connecticut 's success by tossing the "haunting" in the title. While trying to get their lives back on track after the disappearance and presumed drowning of their four year old son,... »

We've learned that Michael Stokes' The Beacon has officially been retitled to Haunting At The Becon. In addition, beyond the break you'll find a lengthy synopsis for the horror flick starring Teri Polo, David Rees Snell, Michael Urie and Michael Ironside, along with a look at some promo art. While trying to get their lives back on track after the disappearance and presumed drowning of their four year old son, Bryn (Teri Polo) and Paul Shaw (David Reessnell) move to the charming old Beacon Apartments. Friendly neighbors and a kick start to Paul's teaching career help smooth the transition. The only sore sport for Bryn is her argument with the building's resident diva, Vanessa Carver (Elaine Hendrix), a beautiful, once successful actress who still behaves as if she were a sought-after star...More »

A few days ago, we posted a listing of the features you can expect on the upcoming Terminator: Salvation DVD and Blu-Ray release. Now, Warner Brothers has provided us with an official release date: December 1st, 2009.
The single disc DVD will feature the original theatrical trailer along with both Widescreen and Fill Screen versions of the movie. It looks like the Blu-Ray's got all the good though including both theatrical and director's cut versions of the movie, Maximum Movie Mode - An McG video commentary similar to what Zach Snyder did for Watchmen where the director hosts in front of the movie as it plays, and much, much more. (See our previous post Here for a full list of features.)
The latest in the Terminator franchise is directed by McG and stars Christian Bale as John Conner, Sam Worthington, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anton Yelchin, Common, Moon Bloodgood and Michael Ironside. »

Those with rich, rewarding lives may be unaware of the fact that both Val Kilmer and Cuba Gooding, Jr. have become the undisputed kings of the direct-to-video market, outranking both Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme in terms of overall output. Kilmer’s face can be found on an unusually large number of new titles released over the past six months, with Cuba coming in at a very close second. It’s sad, really, especially considering these guys are capable of so much more. Truthfully, the only thing left for these two fallen stars to do is appear in the same movie together, perhaps a sci-fi yarn about a guy with a strange implant surgically grafted onto his brain. Lance Henriksen and Michael Ironside should definitely co-star. “Hardwired,” directed by “Cube Zero” mastermind Ernie Barbarash, valiantly attempts to harness the Dtv power of Val Kilmer and Cuba Gooding, Jr., though judging from the trailer, »

Visiting Hours, released in 1982, had the honor of making its way onto England’s celebrated Video Nasty list, right between Unhinged and The Werewolf And The Yeti. In case you don’t know, the Video Nasty list was a collection of video cassettes banned in England for being too violent. The list rapidly became, and is still today, a collection of must see video for any horror fan.
The file shows a film with promise, featuring a cast with the likes of William Shatner, Bob Hoskins, and Sam Waterson. Sadly, a Fango filing mishap placed the later two into the cast by mistake. However, we do get a Michael Ironside and one Lee “Damien: Omen II” Grant. Despite not having the cast promised by an alphabetically challenged intern, Visiting Hours is a worth watching psychological slasher with an outlaw back story.

I'm a little over halfway through an advanced copy of Anthony E. Zuiker's novel Level 26 that was given out at Comic-Con last month. And I can honestly say that this latex wearing contortionist killer ("Sqweegel") has officially creeped me out. It's one thing when you read a crime novel and are limited to your own mind's imagery of the twisted killings. But when you mix that with interstitial video episodes, you get those perverse contorting images burned into your retinas. Don't say I didn't warn you. Zuiker, most known for creating the megahit procedural crime drama franchise CSI, has made the move into two mediums he hasn't touched—publishing and web television. Ok, it's really three if you count his surprisingly formidable start to his blogging career on the Level 26 site. It's everything you don't normally get from Hollywood players—refreshingly candid and actively updated by the man himself. »

Filmmaker Jennifer Lynch
Jennifer Lynch Turns Her Eye On Surveillance
By
Few filmmakers have survived the professional excoriation that writer/director Jennifer Lynch had to face with her film debut Boxing Helena, in 1993. In spite of being nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, the film was universally massacred by critics and tanked at the box office (it has since garnered an impressive cult following, with more than a few of its naysayers penning re-evaluations of the film and its merits). Having penned the script of Boxing Helena at the age of 19, and seeming to be washed up in show business by 25, Lynch spent the next decade and a half surviving a near-fatal car accident which left her with severe spinal damage, adjusting to life as a single parent with a young daughter, and getting sober after years of alcohol and drug abuse. "Surveillance" started out as a script about witches. Director Jennifer Lynch took a whack at it and made a movie about devils — the human kind. The picture is twisted and disturbing and funny, too. Lynch has pushed the material to the wall — she has a gift for violence and perversity, and she never pulls back.
A trail of brutal serial murders has wound its way across the country and now arrived in a remote, unnamed desert community. The movie begins with a recent atrocity, a man and woman slaughtered at their home. Then there's another bloodbath, out on a lonely highway, which leaves several people dead. We don't see this massacre — yet. The story really gets underway in its aftermath.
Three survivors have been brought to the local police headquarters: »

Calling up comparisons with her celebrated father David may be too easy a jumping-off point in addressing Jennifer Lynch’s new film Surveillance, but it’s an unavoidable one—especially given that David is credited as an executive producer. But the younger Lynch comes into her own as a filmmaker with this movie (currently available via video-on-demand and beginning limited theatrical play from Magnolia Pictures this week), which should also dispel any lingering memories of the hostile reception that greeted her debut feature Boxing Helena over 15 years ago.
Superficially, Surveillance’s setup resembles that of Twin Peaks, with the beginning of an FBI murder investigation in a rural area teeming with odd folks. But as opposed to that eponymous lush Pacific Northwest town, the movie is set in a barren part of the Midwest (actually lensed in Saskatchewan, Canada), and whereas most of the eccentrics in David’s seminal series were viewed sympathetically, »

This week, filmgoers (and on demand) customers will be treated to quite an unusual thriller in Magnet Releasing's Surveillance . Directed and co-written by Jennifer Lynch, the film unfolds in a Rashomon -esque fashion as two FBI agents (portrayed by Bill Pullman and Julia Ormond) investigate a killing spree by two masked killers. The narrative is told through the divergent accounts of those who encountered the killers during an incident on a remote highway. Lynch, who hasn't helmed a feature since 1993's Boxing Helena , pulls together a cast that's as eccentric as the way the film is told: Look for Pell James, Ryan Simpkins, French Stewart, Cheri O'Teri and Michael Ironside. Though it has its cult of admirers, Jennifer Lynch's debut feature Boxing Helena was somewhat less than well received. Couple that with the fact that the director's father is David Lynch, one of the premiere surrealists of the modern filmmaking, and it's a wonder that she would ever return to filmmaking, let along tackle a genre famously explored by her illustrious father. Nevertheless, Jennifer Lynch's long-in-coming sophomore outing Surveillance opens in theatres this Friday, 6/26, and is also now available on VOD. It features gonzo performances from a who's who of celebrated character actors; among them Bill Pullman, Michael Ironside and French Stewart, as well as the still-luminous stalwart of 90s... »

The challenge with any prequel is slotting it into the world already set up by the previous movies: Do you create a whole new reality like Star Trek has done, or do you try to match existing continuity like X-Men Origins: Wolverine?
Although it's not without its flaws, Terminator Salvation opts for the latter and delivers an explosive, power-packed spectacle that fits neatly into the franchise. But can it safely utter the immortal words: 'I'll be back'?
As well as obvious homages such as a much-publicised appearance by Arnold Scharzenegger and the use of Linda Hamilton's voice on a tape recording, there are numerous other nods and winks to the previous movies.
While Christian Bale gives a reasonable but largely unmemorable performance as resistance leader John Connor, rising star Sam Worthington has a far more powerful presence as Marcus Wright, a death-row prisoner who donates his body to science »
