Alice in Wonderland: now with dragons

A new trailer has been released for Tim Burton's non-canonical take on the Lewis Carroll classic. All looks promising. But what's that sitting on a castle?
When it comes to classic English literature, the number of dragons can probably be counted on the fingers of one hand. There's The Hobbit, of course and Beowulf, but not, up until now at least, Alice in Wonderland.
Nobody seems to have told Tim Burton, however, for keep an eagle eye on the new trailer for the Us film-maker's 3D adventure and you'll be able to spot a giant wyrm sitting atop a ruined castle in the final frames. Brad Brevet of the Rope of Silicon blog has kindly captured it as a still, here.
It's already been established that Burton is playing fast and loose with Lewis Carroll's 1865 novel, of course. It features events and characters from both Alice in Wonderland

Disney has released a new trailer for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and you can check it out after the jump. While the teaser trailer for Alice looked cool, this new trailer is definitely going to wow you with some pretty incredible visuals. In fact, with this trailer, we’re finally getting a real taste of the movie and in my opinion…it looks like the perfect marriage between story and visuals. Because if there was ever a place that Tim Burton was meant to bring to life, it’s the magical world of Wonderland. Also, the way he’s making the film, with a mixture of live action, animation and CGI, I think it’s going to be amazing. Check out the trailer and judge it for yourself:
Further down is the info Disney gave us about the film. Alice in Wonderland stars Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter,

When the first teaser trailer (prematurely) hit the web for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, I was very excited because not only was it our first proper look at Burton and long-time collaborator, Johnny Depp’s next film together, but it’s one of the classic fictional tales brought to life with a director who couldn’t be more perfect for the job.
I did find the trailer a tad obvious in that it showed many instances where the footage was just in there for the gimmicky 3D effect (such as Depp’s The Mad Hatter throwing the carpet towards the screen). But I guess that’s nitpicking on my part.
Five months and some images and posters later, and we now have a new trailer for Alice In Wonderland which has just surfaced online. This one gives us a better look at a lot of the characters – definitely

Is there a dragon in Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland"? Whether there is or not there's one in Tim Burton's take on the classic 1865 story as the latest trailer introduces a fleet of characters such as the dragon you see above and the Queen's army you see below along with a select group of other screen captures.
I have added the brand new theatrical trailer directly below along with seven additional screen captures, but if you want to check out all the new images I captured from the trailer our gallery is now up to 40 pictures and can be viewed right here.
Alice in Wonderland stars Mia Wasikowska as Alice and she is joined by Johnny Depp, Matt Lucas, Michael Sheen, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Crispin Glover, Eleanor Tomlinson, Christopher Lee and Stephen Fry. The film hits theaters on March 5, 2010.

You can definitely tell DVD companies are counting on everyone to have already bought all the videos they plan to give out this holiday season -- with the highlight of this week's releases being C Me Dance, I think you can see where this is going.
Actually, there are a couple of diamonds in the rough such as a two batches of Sherlock Holmes flicks (yeah, we know they're not full-on horror, but they're still loads of fun) with such masters as Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee along with Murder by Decree from 1979 starring Christopher Plummer, James Mason, David Hemmings, and Susan Clark. We've also got a trio of one-namers like Fallen, Throttle, and Trunk. But without a doubt the pick of the week is Santa Claus Conquers the Martians from Cinema Insomnia's Slime Line.
Happy shopping!

Is there something just not right about seeing Nicolas Cage as a medieval knight, or is it just me? I can buy Viggo Mortensen or Clive Owen swinging a sword around, but Cage? It’s just another excuse to make fun of his hair.
Ron Perlman and Christopher Lee also star in Season Of The Witch, but they failed to make the cut on this latest poster via Shock Till You Drop. Instead we have Cage with his prototypical intense stare, and the witch herself coming out of his chest in a blaze

Real-life Dracula 'Vlad' Getting a Movie

Brad Pitt, who starred in the 1994 film Interview with a Vampire, could be taking on another Nosferatu-based project, this time for Twilight studio Summit.
The project is called Vlad, and will center on Vlad the Impaler, the erstwhile ruler of Wallachia and inspiration behind the Dracula myth. Music video director and photographer Anthony Mandler is set to helm, and the film will star… not Pitt, who is only serving as producer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, Summit is hoping to fashion a visually edgy, radical period action movie that will announce Mandler’s talent, similar to how 300 put Zack Snyder on the map. Mandler has directed videos for Rhianna, the Killers and Eminem, and Summit executives were reportedly bowled over by the reel he prepared.
Vlad III the Impaler (circa 1431–1476) was best known for his independent policy towards the Ottoman Empire, the expansionism of which he resisted,
