Michael Cera is a 'Youth in Revolt'

1 hour ago | TheInsider.com | See recent The Insider news »

Michael Cera taps into his rebellious side in the new comedy 'Youth in Revolt,' in theaters Friday, and the "The Insider" was with the 'Superbad' star at the film's New York premiere! On the blinding paparazzi flashes of the red carpet, Michael candidly told us, "I couldn't possibly stand there any longer," asking director Miguel Arteta, "Weren't you finding it insanely disorienting? And they're also particularly mean for some reason." Based on the novel by C.D. Payne, 'Youth in Revolt' casts Michael as Nick Twisp, a smart, hormone-fueled 16-year-old who falls for intellectual trailer park vixen Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday). Faced with rejection, he comes up with a bad boy alter ego named Francois to win her over. But will Francois land Nick behind bars before he can land the girl? Jean Smart, Steve Buscemi, Ray Liotta and Zach Galifianakis also star. "Zach's really »

Vampires And Laughs Highlight Our First Box Office Poll Of 2010

4 January 2010 9:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

The first week of 2010 brings some great new possibilities for moviegoers who aren't quite ready for their fourth go-round with smash hit "Avatar." Whether you like your blood drunk or spilled, there's plenty of both in the dark new ensemble action/horror vampire flick "Daybreakers," from Michael and Peter Spierig. Ethan Hawke stars as a vampire scientist who rebels against a society ruled by a bloodsucker majority, linking up with a human survivor underground led by Willem Dafoe. It makes sense. Who's gonna argue with a guy who straps a crossbow to his shotgun?

For those who want to take a break from vampires, "Youth in Revolt" is your answer. The quirky comedy follows Nick Twisp, a young hipster-in-training played by Michael Cera. Nick has a hard time adjusting after his family moves to a trailer park... that is until he meets his new neighbor Sheeni (Portia Doubleday). She's everything »

Review: Youth In Revolt

2 January 2010 7:53 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Until I caught Youth In Revolt at the St Louis International Film Festival in 2009, I wasnt really sure if Michael Cera was just unfortunately typecast as quirky, awkward teenager or if he just played himself in everything. Well all of that was put behind me when I was introduced to Francois Dillinger.

Francois is everything that Cera is not…he is evil, maniacal, and Not a virgin…he is a lady killer. When Nick goes away to a trailer park for a week during the end of summer with his moms boyfriend Jerry (Zach Galifianakis) he meets the girl of his dreams, Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday), he realizes that a girl like her just wouldn’t be happy with just any guy…she needs a rebel, someone who is so badass that Chuck Norris comes asking him for advice. This is when Nick creates Francois Dillinger to woo the panties »

Monthly Movie Preview – January 2010

1 January 2010 2:02 PM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

The most distressing month in America probably isn’t November or December, when the big Oscar dogs come out in full force with their pride on their sleeves, only to be shot down or embraced by critics or audiences alike. I’d argue the most stressful month in Hollywood is the wet fart that is January, where Hollywood exhales whatever material it has left over from summer or fall or dates, or even worse, releases material not “fit” for either. While the holiday season apparently works like “everyday is Saturday” for the box office, January is the opposite – everyday is like Tuesday morning. The motivation to see movies isn’t there as much.

However, movies have always provided a safe haven for its returning viewers. As some of you may know, this was a great year for the American box office. I’m sure some of that enthusiasm is going to continue, »
