Opens: 2010
Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.
Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.
The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not »

Few films have come out the box recently like The Hangover. Sure there have been films that have become a part of the conversation, and the Apatow films were hundred million dollar pictures, but The Hangover was a phenomenon. Granted I live in a world where people don’t make “fat Jesus” jokes any more. As part of the target demo for this, I’m happy my friends aren’t the guys quoting this film ad nauseum, but I feel like this film managed to hit the nerves that Austin Powers did in maximum quotability, so my residual like may be tempered by other’s exhaustion. My review of The Hangover Blu-ray after the fold.

The End of 2009? Whoop-doo! This year has been one hellatious shit storm from the get-go. Pregnant ladies and babies, The Great Depression Part II, pig flu, more than a handful of horrible shootings, a balloon boy, Tiger's indiscretions, and our first black president. Not to mention more dead celebrities than I can shake a stick at. Every time I turned around, some other atrocious calamity was happening right before my eyes. Making 2009 one of the most interesting years of this entire decade. According to Michael Ruppert in his film Collapse its only going to get worse before it gets better. Yes, the Teens are going to see more than half of your friends and family dead. Take account of the folks around you. By the time 2020 rears its ugly head, most of these people will be gone. Turned to dust and painful memories. My advice to you this coming New Year? »

Several weeks ago we would have told you that Mo’Nique was a “shoo-in’ to get an Academy Award nomination for her work in Precious, and she was going to walk away with the Award and be the 2nd African American comedic actress since Whoopi Goldberg’s performance in Ghost to do so for Best Supporting Actress. Now, after today’s news and rumors floating around we are not so sure of anything.
What are we talking about? Well, according to numerous reports and sources, MoNique has decided to skip the New York Film Critics Awards next month, which is a great press opportunity for every actor associated with any film right before Awards season and during voting season. It is also a pivotal stop for those trying to win Any award during award season because those NY Critics have a lot of “pull” and more towards the votes that are cast. »

A Marvin the Martian movie sounds like a good idea, probably. There is no cartoon character more underrated. Unfortunately, the film will also following the recent trend of CG character in a live action world, which might work for some movies in which humans exist, but Marvin also exists in his own fictionalized, cartoon universe, so it will stray far from its original roots. The crew doesn’t fill one with much hope, either. The La Times reports that Alex Zamm has signed on as the director, and he has to his credit films such as Inspector Gadget 2 and Dr. Doolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (a franchise so bad that even Eddie Murphy has vacated it). The writers are Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove, who have both worked on Spin City and George Lopez. Their upcoming writing project is a CHiPS remake. Supposedly Mike Myers could be approach to play the martian, »

Photo: Fox Searchlight Pictures Scott Cooper's Crazy Heart marks the helmer's feature film directorial debut. Having also penned the screenplay, an adaptation of the Thomas Cobb novel, there are obvious decisions that were made limiting the risk of this story of an alcoholic country music singer. In fact, Crazy Heart could have gone down much darker and less cliched paths had it dared and at the same time told greater truths about its subject matter. Instead Cooper plays it safe and relies on a powerful lead performance from Jeff Bridges and worthy supporting efforts from Maggie Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell, Paul Herman and Robert Duvall to make it all work.
Already described by most as The Wrestler for 2009, this is an apt comparison in terms of framework, but the execution isn't as closely comparable. Bridges plays Bad Blake, a country singer that once toured and »

Cast: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, Bruce Greenwood, David Walliams
Director: Jay Roach
Summary: A renowned publisher encourages his friends to invite the most pathetic guests possible for their weekly dinner party. Just as they find the most pathetic man yet, the host is injured and ends up trapped with the man all night long.
Analysis: A remake of director Francis Veber's 1998 César award-winning "Le Diner des cons", 'Schmucks' is one of the highest profile comedies of next year with one of the strongest casts for the genre in recent memory. It also marks the return of "Austin Powers" and "Meet the Parents" helmer Jay Roach who has produced several films in recent years but hasn't directed since 2004's "Meet the Fockers".
The question now lies not in the performers or director but the material itself and whether a Gallic comedy can »

The trailer for Shrek Forever After has been released, and you can check it out by clicking on the Trailer tab above, or by heading over to Apple where it's also available in a variety of high def QuickTime sizes.
You can also check out the official poster below.
In the new film, Shrek is feeling over-domesticated. He has lost his roar. He used to send villagers running away in terror. Now they run to him and ask him to sign their pitchforks and torches. To regain his ogre mojo, he strikes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin. The pact goes awry and Shrek must confront what life would be like in Far Far Away if he had never existed. That translates into Donkey being forced into cart-pulling duty, fat and lazy Puss in Boots trading his sword for a pink bow and the underhanded Rumpelstiltskin ruling the kingdom.

NBC trotted out a "Saturday Night Live" holiday special Thursday, collecting bits from past seasons and wrapping it in a new package called "A Very Gilly Christmas."
Just why "SNL" chose to put one of the more annoying recurring characters among the current cast (we love Kristen Wiig, but the troublemaking Gilly is far from her best) front and center is a little bit baffling, but the special itself was a pretty solid effort.
The classics -- Dan Aykroyd's sleazy toy salesman, Eddie Murphy's "A Gumby Christmas," Alec Baldwin's "Schweddy Balls," Steve Martin's holiday wish -- were there, and like watching "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" or "A Christmas Story" for the 105th time, those sketches don't really get old. But among the more recent holiday sketches "SNL" has done, it's hard to top Robert Smigel's animation piece "Christmas for the Jews." (Ok, "D*ck in a Box" is better, »

The fourth and final Shrek movie, Shrek Forever After, now has a teaser trailer and a poster. I’m not sure if I’m excited about the new promotional materials or that it’s the last one being made. It’s the latter. DreamWorks Animation may be moving on with sequels to the successful Kung Fu Panda, but not before one last withdrawal from the Shrek bank (now with 3-D premium bonuses).
The story is a fairy tale rehash of It’s a Wonderful Life where Shrek “falls victim to a terrible curse” by the evil Rumpelstiltskin and sees what Far Far Away is like without him. Mike Myers returns to voice the lovable ogre, along with Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, and Antonio Banderas, who is getting his own spin-off when Puss in Boots comes out in 2011.
Take a look at the teaser trailer and poster below:

Well for all of you that cant get enough Shrek in your life, we have a trailer for the final chapter in the franchise(or at least they claim). Shrek Forever After comes out May 21st 2010, and you can see the exclusive trailer on Apple. Here is the synopsis:
Shrek (Mike Myers) has become a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, the grown-reluctant ogre agrees to autograph pitch forks. Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre,” Shrek is tricked into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin (Paul McCartney). Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is king, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) is an intellectual, Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) is still alive, and Shrek and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo »
