Now she's preparing to star opposite Nicole Kidman in Tomas Alfredson's follow-up to Let the Right One In, The Danish Girl.

When Greta asked her husband to stand in for one of her models one day, the experience led the two of them down the road to transformation that changed both of their lives forever.

Gwyneth Paltrow is a Danish Girl for Director Thomas Alfredson

14 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Gwyneth Paltrow is leaving Pepper Potts and becoming Greta Wegenar. Having just wrapped “Iron Man 2,” Paltrow is now signed on to appear in “The Danish Girl,” the story of the world’s first post-operative transsexual. Co-starring Nicole Kidman as the titular character and directed by Thomas Alfredson (”Let the Right One In”), the movie is back on track after the sudden departure of the original Greta, Charlize Theron. Hit the jump for more.

According to Variety, the film, which is based on the fictionalized account by David Ebershoff, will focus on the relationship between Greta and her husband, Einar Wegenar. Setting aside for the moment the historical accuracy of a film based on a book based on real events, “The Danish Girl” looks like it could be a powerful drama. Greta was a painter and one day she asked her husband to stand in for a model. The fact »

Paltrow, Kidman are Man and Wife in 'The Danish Girl'

23 hours ago | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

I know who's not going to be watching The Danish Girl: Dudes. If you think you had trouble getting a dude to see Brokeback Mountain, then just try getting him off the couch in football season to see a movie in which Nicole Kidman plays a post-op transsexual. And if you were still holding out hope, you should know Gwyneth Paltrow will play Nicole's wife.

Yep, if there's three things guys generally don't want to see in their movies, it's Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and trannies. But The Danish Girl is a drama full of, well, drama, and because it's directing by Let the Right One In's Tomas Alfredson, the cineastes will probably line up for it.

Here's the breakdown of the plot from Variety: »

Gwyneth Paltrow Stands By Her Man: Nicole Kidman

7 November 2009 2:59 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Even though she's one great part of the insanely entertaining Iron Man, Gwyneth Paltrow hasn't been notable for her acting in years. Since marrying Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and raising their two kids, she's become more notable for stuff like traveling around Europe with Mario Batali, and founding the laughably snooty lifestyle site Goop.com, which encourages readers to "nourish the inner aspect." But after a promisingly low-key turn in James Gray's Two Lovers earlier this year, Paltrow is taking on a role that's a genuine challenge: she'll play the wife to a character played by Nicole Kidman in The Danish Girl, a movie that sounds as weird and twisty as Iron Man is enjoyable and mainstream. The film, directed by Let the Right One In's Tomas Alfredson, tells the true story of Einar Wegener (Kidman), the world's first person to get a sex-change operation. According to Variety, Paltrow »

Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman playing lovers, sounds intriguing right? Even better when Let The Right One In helmer Tomas Alfredson is behind it. Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman to be ‘Danish Girls’

6 November 2009 7:58 PM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Taking on a fairly interesting duo of roles, Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman have both signed on to star in The Danish Girl.

The film is based on the real life relationship between Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener, but is adapted from a David Ebershoff novel dealing with the same story.

Although dealing with a relationship, the film is not your typical boy meets girl, girl meets girl, or boy meets boy tale. Einar Wegener was, in fact, the first post-operative transsexual, and the film follows his and his wife Greta on the journey Einar takes from playing around with gender roles, to finally getting a sex-change operation.

In The Danish Girl, Paltrow will play the role of Greta, a portrait painter who asks her husband Einar to step in when a female model fails to show up for a sitting. Kidman will be playing the role of Einar, »

No, it's not a typo. Your Friday trade-news dump is one of the more exotic in recent memory, as Gwyneth Paltrow will join Nicole Kidman in The Danish Girl, featuring Kidman as the first post-operative transsexual. Paltrow will play his/her wife, a painter whose request for her husband to fill in for an absent female model -- stockings, frocks and all -- resulted in a popular series of portraits that came to permute his sexual identity. Drama ensues -- as will about 100 glossy cover stories and an inevitable Goop blogging hiatus while Paltrow is shooting. Enjoy it. [Bf Deal Memo] »

Gwyneth Paltrow Joins Nicole Kidman in 'The Danish Girl'

6 November 2009 3:15 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

The upcoming The Danish Girl is one of those independent, edgy films that has all the right elements for something brilliant, but it's subject matter is so tricky that it could end up becoming a farce. Based on David Ebershoff's novel, The Danish Girl is the story of the world's first post-operative transsexual, Einar Wegener, and his wife, Greta. Tomas Alfredson is set to direct, Nicole Kidman has long been attached to play Einar, and Variety reports that Gwyneth Paltrow has stepped in to play Greta. She's stepping in for Charlize Theron, who originally held the role, but has dropped out for unspecified reasons.

The story takes place in 1920s Denmark. Greta* was a portrait painter, and needed a model. She asked Einar to step into a dress, stockings, and heels, and created some kind of awakening in Einar. In women's clothes, her husband became an outrageous character named Lili. »

Acclaimed director Thomas Alfredson, the man behind Let the Right One in, has hand picked Gwyneth Paltrow to star in The Danish Girl. According to Variety, she will be appearing alongside Nicole Kidman in this transsexual drama.

The script, which was written by Lucinda Coxon, will center on the real life story of Danish artists Einar (Kidman) and Greta Wegener (Paltrow). Playing a man, Kidman's Einar stood in for a female subject that his wife was set to paint. Once this work of art became wildly popular, Einar was encouraged to adopt his female guise, which eventually led him to becoming the first transsexual in a landmark 1931 operation that shocked the world.

The film is set for release in 2011.

'Iron Man 2': The War Machine Team-Up Addressed

More details on the War Machine of "Iron Man 2" have been spilled. Dropping by MTV recently, Sam Rockwell who will be seen as Justin Hammer in the "Iron Man" sequel gave an interesting scoop on the relationship between his Tony Stark's rival character and Don Cheadle's Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes.

Of the two characters' alliance, the 40-year-old actor said, "Don and I, we're working together. He works with me in spite of some of my personality flaws." Calling Hammer "a bit of a shark" in explaining the "personality flaws" remark, he then detailed that "Don's character, Rhodey, needs to work with me. He has no choice. So we team up and we build this fabulous War Machine."

Asked further whether his character might take advantage of the opportunity to try the War Machine armor on, the actor who voiced Darwin in "G-Force" stated that he has no chance to do so. »

Actor Ashton Kutcher made a Los Angeles rabbi the star of an A-list ball on Wednesday when he branded the spiritual adviser his "best friend".

The Just Married star was at GQ magazine's The Gentleman's Ball in New York City to present Yehuda Berg with an agent of change award for bettering society.

Kutcher told the crowd, "My best friend? Yehuda Berg. To me, he's not a rabbi. He's my friend.

"If you truly want to change the world, you have to start by changing yourself. (Berg) taught me that and it's been the most important lesson of my life."

Berg, who also advises Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, later spoke about the philosophy he has taught the star and his wife Demi Moore, explaining: "We used to think, 'Change the world, and eventually, my life will be better.' The truth is, if we change ourselves, the world will be better."

And he had a few words of praise for Kutcher and Moore, adding: "They're very special people. And she's a great mom. An amazing, amazing mom." »
