Melissa George joins "Lie to Me"

7 hours ago | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

I was hoping Melissa George would find more work after getting the boot from Grey's Anatomy, but I guess I was looking for something a little more than this. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Melissa will join the cast of Lie to Me as "an Anna Nicole Smith-type."

Melissa will play Clara Martin, "the sassy wife of an older billionaire who has been murdered" who takes control of his empire. As Michael Ausiello notes, "she's kinda nuts."

If anything, this will probably be a fun part to play, but I'd also love to see Melissa do something a little more bad ass. However, we can hold out hope she'll share a scene with Lie to Me's Zoe Landau, aka Jennifer Beals. But with Clara not showing up till the 11th episode of the second season's 13, she might not have that much screen time.

Exclusive: 'Grey's' star jumps to 'Lie to Me'

Mer's self-injuring Grey's Anatomy Bff has hopped the crazy train over to Lie to Me. Melissa George is joining the Fox drama as an Anna Nicole Smith-type who will go toe-to-toe with Tim Roth, sources confirm to me exclusively. Her character, Clara Martin, is the sassy wife of an older billionaire who has been murdered. After being exonerated in a high-profile murder trial, she assumes control of her husband's empire. Lightman sees himself in her — naughty, fearless, strategic, and always game for the next adventure. In other words, she's kinda nuts. George will recur beginning with this season's 11th episode. »

Smith Thought Pregnancy Was Wind

1 November 2009 6:26 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Anna Nicole Smith was so heavily affected by her alleged drug habit, she was convinced her pregnancy was a case of bad wind.

In a shocking tape submitted to Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday, Smith tells lawyer and former lover Howard K. Stern, who shot the footage in 2006, she isn't expecting a baby - despite displaying a prominent bump.

Smith gave birth to daughter Dannielynn in September, 2006, just months before she died of an accidental drug overdose in 2007.

The video was shown as evidence against Stern, and medics Dr. Sandeep Kapoor and Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, who are all accused of illegally supplying the late model/actress with strong prescription drugs in the run up to her death.

The case is set to go to trial after Judge Robert J. Perry ruled there is enough evidence against the three defendants to try them before a jury.

The defendants will return to court on 11 December. »

By Steven Mikulan

The end of the Anna Nicole Smith hearing came more with a whimper than a bang.

For three weeks, testimony and arguments had raged in Department 104 over whether or not Smith’s lawyer-companion, her doctor and her psychiatrist should stand trial on charges the three conspired to illegally keep the model-actress – a known addict -- pumped up on a steady diet of dangerous prescription drugs that included Methadone, Dilaudid and Demerol.

Smith Doctor Feared Losing Job After Kiss

29 October 2009 12:11 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

A doctor who treated Anna Nicole Smith feared he would lose his job after kissing the late model/actress and prescribing her powerful drugs, a court has heard.

Medics Dr. Sandeep Kapoor and Khristine Eroshevich and Smith's companion and lawyer Howard K. Stern are accused of conspiring to illegally provide the late star with prescription drugs. All three have pleaded not guilty.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert J. Perry has banned candid images of Smith, obtained by prosecutors, from being shown in court, fearing it would "sensationalise" the hearing.

The nature of the photos were not revealed, but one shot reportedly shows Eroshevich sharing a bath with Smith, supporting the District Attorney's case that the doctors acted unprofessionally and inappropriately.

However, entries from Kapoor's diary were allowed to be heard in court, and were read out by Judge Perry during a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

In one entry, dated 13 June, 2005, Kapoor - who his lawyer had claimed was gay - writes, "I was making out with Anna, my patient, blurring the lines. I gave her methadone, Valium. Can she ruin me?"

Another earlier excerpt detailed Kapoor's own struggle with drugs.

In an entry from 17 November, 2002, he writes, "I also need to get off the drugs. The Buspar (anti-anxiety drug), Wellbutrin (used for depression) have to go. But first the Ambien (sedative) has got to go. Oh God, it's so addicting. I have to get off that s**t."

Birkhead Settles Legal Bill Battle

29 October 2009 9:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Anna Nicole Smith's former lover Larry Birkhead has ended a long-standing monetary dispute with a former attorney by agreeing to a settlement.

The photojournalist became embroiled in a complicated legal fight with celebrity lawyer Debra Opri in 2007 after she sent him a bill for over $600,000 (£387,00) for her work representing him in his custody battle over the late actress/model's daughter Dannielynn.

She then sued him over claims he had refused to pay for her service and asked a judge to settle the matter.

Birkhead then countersued Opri, accusing her of owing him over £505,000 (£316,000) that she secured him as part of a reality TV deal with U.S. network Bravo.

However, legal filings obtained by TMZ.com show the case has now been settled for an undisclosed amount.

Birkhead alleged he was Dannielynn's father after she was born in September 2006 and a DNA test taken the following year proved his claims. »

Just in case anyone thought the Anna Nicole Smith hearing couldn't get any kinkier: It can, and it did.
