Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s vehicle action movie “Faster” has cast one female lead, and is in negotiations with a second one. Maggie Grace, the abducted daughter from “Taken” (she’s set to reprise the role in the sequel), has already signed on to star with Johnson, while Mexican spitfire Salma Hayek is currently dotting the “i’s” and crossing the “t’s” to do likewise. No word on what roles the two women will be playing. Also in the cast is Billy Bob Thornton, playing a cop who is trailing Johnson’s character, an ex-con and ex-wheelman looking to avenge his brother’s murder. George Tillman is directing from a script by Joe and Tony Gayton. »

It was announced via SXSW in the wee hours of the mornin' that Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass will open SXSW Film 2010. Kick-Ass tells the story of average teen Dave (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) and Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage), and another fledgling superhero, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). The 2010 edition of the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival will open with the world premiere of Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass. This is a good, if not unexpected, choice. Kick-Ass set Butt-Numb-a-Thon on fire so it will be interesting to see how the film plays with the SXSW audience. SXSW Film runs from March 12 - 20, 2010 in Austin, Texas.
A few other premiere have been announced; capsule descriptions are provided below. There are some interesting titles on the list, but the documentary about Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister immediately stands out.
Cold Weather - SXSW Alum Aaron Katz directs this feature about a former forensic science major and avid reader of detective fiction, who, after making a mess of his life in Chicago, returns to his hometown of Portland, Oregon. There, he, his sister Gail, and new friend Carlos become embroiled in something unexpected.

They aren't ranked. Deal with it. I must thank these 47 actors again (three performers have two entries) one last time for delivering such indelible characterizations these past ten years. Bid them adieu before moving on to a fresh decade, the Teens. You may notice that this list includes no 2009 performances. It's too early! I don't wanna give away my upcoming nominees and I still need time to let the year settle. My dozen favorites are selected rather impulsively in red. And with "best/favorites" it's always subject to change with the passing of time... or moods.
