Interview – Morena Baccarin, "Anna" From 'V'

10 November 2009 9:30 AM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Last week, V's aliens arrived at Earth and went on to dominate the airwaves.  ABC's reinvention of the 80's miniseries captured imaginations around the world, proving that the reliable SciFi trope of sneaky alien invaders never goes out of fashion.  Where the original was an parable on the spread of Nazi-era fascism, ABC's new turn on the series is fast being eyeballed as a more contemporary allegory – focusing on the political idolatry of the here and know, with mesmerized earthlings falling easily under the spell of charismatic alien leader Anna, played skillfully by Morena Baccarin.   It wouldn't be a stretch to say that the role of Anna can make or break V, in Baccarin's hand every aspect of Anna – her duplicity, sensuality, to the subtle glare in her otherwise catching smile that betrays an intense evil lurking within – is done to perfection.

We had the opportunity to speak with Morena Baccarin last week, »

ABC Offers 'V' for Vendetta

3 November 2009 10:00 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

ABC's reboot of Kenneth Johnson's '80s miniseries V (which originally aired on NBC) debuted last night, and for the most part, it was pretty entertaining.

In less than an hour, writer/exec producer Scott Peters (The 4400) sets up the gambit—visitors from another planet who come to Earth in search of natural resources, promising peace and prosperity, and quickly polarize humanity into those who are taken in by the Visitors' claims of benevolence, and those who immediately distrust them.

Whether wisely or not, Peters chose to be very economical with time and got things off to a blistering start. Consequently, the entire setup happens within the first installment. Unlike the original '80s show, which took more time to reveal the Visitors' true nature, the new series took us from arrival, to suspicion, to resistance, to revelation about the aliens' reptilian nature, all in the first episode. »

New 'V' Promo Trailer and International Marketing Images

1 November 2009 10:25 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

ABC's V pilot kicks off tomorrow night, and we've got a few goodies to whet your appetite until then, including a new promo trailer and several international marketing images for the series that are kind of fun. You can check out all of it below.

It's been more than 25 years since V first aired back in the '80s, but anticipation for this rebooted property is high, and critics have been praiseworthy of the pilot.

Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost) stars as the show's new heroine, doleful FBI agent Erica Evans. She's the series' chief protagonist, a status she shares with the slightly more buoyant, but ultimately no less distraught Father Jack (Joel Gretsch), a Catholic priest undergoing a crisis of faith. Scott Wolf (Party of Five) joins the cast as an ambitious TV journalist.

The aliens are as attractive and agreeable as before. Fans of the original Kenneth Johnson miniseries of »

Jane Badler might return for V remake

14 October 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

ABC's new version of V is coming next month, and I'm sure some fans of the original wonder whatever happened to lead alien Jane Badler. She made some movies and appeared on TV shows after V, but then went to Australia and raised a family and released a CD. But she might be coming to the remake: she had lunch with producers recently and may have some sort of role on the show.

And now, if you didn't see my post about it earlier this year, the big scene from the original V:

V: Diana and Other Familiar Faces May Be Back

17 August 2009 5:12 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Many fans of the original V have mixed feelings about ABC's upcoming reboot. They may feel better knowing that the producers of the new show aren't totally abandoning the sci-fi story's past.

At the recent TCA press tour, one of the new show's executive producers, Scott Peters, told Sci Fi Wire that Jane Badler may actually have a role in the new V. Badler, who lives in Australia, played one of the original V's most memorable aliens, Diana, in both the mini-series and the weekly show that followed. Peters noted that Badler actually contacted them, has kept in touch, and may have a part in the new show.

Peters also says that the team is also considering inviting other V veterans to the new series as well. The ABC show is still in the early stages of production so he noted that there's nothing »

Classic Actors In The Cards For 'V'

13 August 2009 8:11 AM, PDT | AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news »

The upcoming re-imagining of the alien invasion series "V" looks set to bring a modern spin on the classic tale, but that doesn't mean it will forget its roots entirely. According to SciF Wire, the series is considering bringing in some of the show's original stars, and they already have some names in mind. "Jane Badler has approached our producers and has been in touch here and there," executive producer Scott Peters confirmed. What's keeping the writers from integrating her into the show though isn't a lack of enthusiasm, but instead the need to give her, and any other original stars who are interested, a pivotal role that will pay the proper respects to the original series. "I haven't had a chance to actually sit down or talk to anybody face to face, but I would love to," Peters »

Morena Baccarin is the new Diana in ABC’s new V Show

9 March 2009 9:17 AM, PDT | SciFiCool.com | See recent SciFiCool.com news »

From the Serenity to the Stargate to the V? Obviously the first thing you need to do when you’re casting for a new V TV show is to get someone who can pull a Diana, the original female leader of the space lizards. And if you can’t get Jane Badler to come back (she’s still around, right?), maybe Morena Baccarin is the next best thing. THR has Baccarin’s casting in the new V TV show and her character: “V,” from Wbtv, is a re-imagining of the 1980s miniseries about an invasion of aliens known as Visitors and the resistance against them. The Icm-repped Baccarin will play Anna, the leader of the Visitors who is remarkably knowledgeable about human culture and media manipulation. Obviously Jane Badler’s shoes are big, but Morena Baccarin has that ethereal quality about her that sort of makes her perfect for roles »

V: The Series: Aliens Planning Return in New TV Show

22 February 2009 12:26 AM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

The aliens have landed. Well, sort of. ABC is greenlighting a pilot for a new version of V. Back in the 1980s, the V miniseries spawned both a sequel, novels, and a short-lived TV show.

The original 1983 mini-series stars Jane Badler, Michael Durrell, Marc Singer, Jeff Yagher, Blair Tefkin, Robert Englund, and Faye Grant, and focuses on a race of friendly and helpful humanoid aliens that land on Earth. Referred to as "The Visitors," these aliens offer up their advanced technology in exchange for the chemicals and minerals their ailing world desperately needs. Unfortunately, they're not what they appear to be. Journalist Michael Donovan eventually discovers that the human-looking aliens are actually reptiles who prefer live meat. Before he can get the word out, the Visitors take control of the media and soonafter, the world.

The miniseries spawned a second miniseries, novels, and its own weekly TV show that ran »

'V' pilot invades ABC

26 January 2009 3:46 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

ABC has greenlit a pilot for a reworked version of the '80s sci-fi classic "V." According to Variety, the new pilot was written by Scott Peters, who knows a few things about this sort of material as co-creator and executive producer of "The 4400." Written and directed by Kenneth Johnson, the 1983 original focused on the aftermath of an invasion by the Visitors, seemingly benign aliens.  Naturally, these lizard creators aren't so benign at all. The two-part miniseries, which starred Jane Badler, Marc Singer, Faye Grant, Michael Durrell and Jenny Sullivan, caused a TV sensation when it aired on NBC. »
