After only a sneak preview, DreamWorks finally give the full length trailer of "Revolutionary Road". This would be the first movie that reunites Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as a couple after the highly-acclaimed "Titanic" in 1997.
Adapted from Richard Yates' 1961 novel of the same name, "Road" resolves around Frank and April Wheeler whose marriage appears to be so perfect. However, beneath that, each of them struggles with the frustration of not being able to be fulfilled in the relationship or their respective careers.
Frank eventually throws himself to alcohol and affair while April mourns the demise of her desire to be an artist. Jealousy and arguments follow thereafter and their relationship is tested as it deteriorates with each passing day.
Also starring Kathy Bates and David Harbour, "Revolutionary Road" will arrive in theaters on December 26, 2008.

The upcoming remake of the classic 1950’s science fiction movie The Day The Earth Stood Still, starring Keanu Reaves, Kathy Bates, Jennifer Connely, Jaden Smith, and John Cleese, has released some new footage, which can be found at io9.com. The seven and a half minutes cover scenes from Klaatu’s (Keanu Reeves) arrival on the planet Earth, some samplings of his strange powers, his interactions with people, and the beginning of the destruction of our planet by mysterious giant “spheres” that appear almost invisible. The original film, released in 1951 and based on a short story by author Harry Bates, tells the tale of a mysterious spacecraft that appears on Earth. It was a metaphor for the ongoing Communist Red [...]

While it doesn't arrive in theaters until December, Fox feels pretty confident in their The Day the Earth Stood Still remake -- so much so that they aired roughly seven and a half minutes of footage last night during a repeat of the Fringe pilot. Seems a bit odd to show that much footage this far in advance of the film's release date, but apparently Fox wants to build good buzz now ... and, thankfully, it would appear the film warrants it.
The footage (which you can see after the jump) is not comprised of one, long extended scene. Instead, we're taken through a whole bunch of scenes from what would appear to be the first half of the film, with some playing out a bit longer than others. Essentially, The Day the Earth Stood Still tells of an alien visitor (Keanu Reeves) and a giant robot who land on earth

As promised by Fox earlier, an exclusive first look at "The Day the Earth Stood Still" extended scene has been viewed on small screen on Sunday, September 14, and now the seven minutes long clip can be enjoyed also by those who missed it out. Providing more detailed look into the movie, the clip seems to serve as an elaboration of the previously-released teaser, displaying Helen Benson's role in the government's secret investigation and revealing footage before Klaatu is brought to the questioning room.
Focused on the concerns of man against nature rather than man against man like in the original film, "Earth Stood Still" resolves around the humanoid alien which arrivals on Earth triggers a global commotion as governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind his appearance. It is written by David Scarpa and put Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Jaden Smith, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm and others as the stars.

Making an end run around the studios and the critical establishment, Tyler Perry has established himself as a commercial powerhouse by giving an underserved audience what they want: raucous melodramas populated by largely African-American casts, with plenty of Jesus and some gender politics thrown in as well. His talents may have more to do with marketing than writing or directing, but until someone else can come close to doing what he does, Perry deserves due respect for exploiting an untapped niche. His unabashedly matriarchal new film The Family That Preys focuses on the familes of Kathy Bates, an iron-willed millionaire who has taken the reins of her late husband's company, and Alfre Woodard, who runs a small, not particularly savory-looking luncheonette. How this chalk-and-cheese pair became best friends is explained only late in the game, and halfheartedly at that. But Perry never lets plausibility get in the way of...

A sneak preview to the Paramount Vantage drama, "Revolutionary Road", has been let out. Courtesy of Entertainment Tonight, the video reveals footages displaying Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as a couple once again after their previous pairing up in 1997's James Cameron "Titanic". It also explains what the two have to deal with in the Sam Mendes-directed film.
Adapted from Richard Yates' 1961 novel of the same name, "Road" resolves around Frank and April Wheeler. Though on the surface their marriage looks to be just fine, behind it lurks a creeping frustration at their inability to feel fulfilled in their relationships or careers.
Frank despises his corporate job and runs to liquor and affair with co-worker, while his wife, April, mourns the demise of her dream to be an artist. As they deal with their personal problems, their relationship deteriorates and they fall into an endless cycle of bitter arguments and jealousy.

French composer Alexandre Desplat is once again working for British director Stephen Frears. His score for Frears' The Queen resulted in an Oscar nomination and numerous other awards and nominations. Their new film is called Cheri, and given the composer's country of origin the story should fit like a glove: it's a romantic drama set in Paris in the 1920s. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathy Bates and Rupert Friend, the film is based on a controversial novel by Colette. Miramax and Pathe will distribute, release date to be determined. Alexandre Desplat's other upcoming films include David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and French action adventure Largo Winch.

Some might be quick to dismiss this week as part of the post-summer lull, but others might see it as a week of films that have been years in the making . it's been 13 since the now re-paired Robert De Niro and Al Pacino were last on screen together, while Diane English's remake of "The Women" took 12 to make it to the big screen, and the Flaming Lips' "Christmas on Mars" spent a mere seven years in the offing. As for fans of the Coen brothers, it only seems like forever since "No Country for Old Men."
Another week, another 9/11 conspiracy film, this one actually getting released on the seventh anniversary of the tragedy. Loosely inspired by "The Maltese Falcon," this Dv noir offers something of a date movie for far-left conspiracy theorists who take issue with perceived abuse of power on the part of our government.

Q: What Hollywood outsider “earned more than Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise and Bon Jovi combined” last year, according to Forbes?
A: Tyler Perry
The magazine says that Perry is a potential "next-generation" billionaire, citing his astute diversification of his products across theatre, television, film, and home video platforms. It's easy to make fun of the Madea movies, but they've helped Perry build an empire that is growing by leaps and bounds every year.
Part of his business model is releasing a couple of low risk/high reward feature films a year through Lionsgate, and slowly but surely, his movies have expanded beyond Madea and have become more concerned with the African-American experience in urban America. They have also begun to attract better casts, or do you not think the combination of Alfre Woodard and Kathy Bates counts for much?
Perry's new film, The Family That Preys, focuses on two families

Of course, in a perfect world, we'd never have remakes or sequels. We'd have one movie that told the whole story perfectly, leaving no questions unanswered, no stones unturned, and there would never be a reason to revisit that idea again because the film is timeless and untouchable.
It doesn't work that way, and we're "treated" to remakes and sequels all the time. Often, these are lousy, although I don't think you could survey the entire landscape of unoriginal ideas and determine that the majority are without their merits. It gets a little tricky when filmmakers want to add something to the legacy of a classic film, say, for example, The Day the Earth Stood Still.
For a lot of us, myself included, it's one of the first great alien invasion movies and an important piece of science-fiction and pop culture. But I don't think anyone can say that it's not outdated.
