Review: Eagle Eye

6 October 2008 8:51 AM, PDT | From The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news

If Michael Bay had directed War Games, it might have ended up a little like Eagle Eye, a supercharged, preposterously drawn thriller that requires a little suspension of disbelief. No, scratch that. It requires A Lot Of Suspension Of Disbelief!

In Eagle Eye, Shia Labeouf plays Jerry Shaw, an underachiever who can't seem to get out from under his more accomplished twin brother's shadow. One day, while making his way home after an emotionally grueling morning, he receives a strange phone call from a woman who ultimately plunges his life into complete and utter chaos. Faster than you can say "North By Northwest," Jerry finds himself on the run from government officials who are convinced he's involved in terrorist activities.

War Games isn't the only film that Eagle Eye borrows from. As this over wrought but fast-paced thriller blazes from one ridiculous moment to the next, one might be reminded of Enemy of the State,

Venturing into the Star Trek Universe with Writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman

3 October 2008 8:29 PM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Looking ahead to next summer, there is an exciting line-up of geek-driven films, from Wolverine to Transformers to Terminator to Harry Potter to Star Trek. While I've been keeping my eye on all of them, Star Trek is one that I'm particularly interested in seeing. As a big fan of "The Next Generation" series and J.J. Abrams (separately), I've been tremendously excited to see what Abrams has done with such a beloved franchise. Although there are still quite a few more months left, and we still haven't even seen a real trailer, I'm still excited to bring you any news we can. Wired recently caught up with writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and tackled some tough questions surrounding the movie. Orci and Kurtzman have become quickly become two of the next biggest writers in Hollywood. After penning the screenplay for Michael Bay's Transformers last year and Mission: Impossible III

Injured Labeouf Impresses Troops With His Courage

1 October 2008 6:35 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Latest: Shia Labeouf is such a trooper on the set of the Transformers sequel , he refused to seek hospital help for a severe eyelid injury during a bomb blast stunt that went awry on Wednesday.

The actor was shooting scenes at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico when he was injured - and he was more than happy to let base medics attend to his wounds.

One troop on the set tells WENN, "He was treated at the clinic at the airforce base by Colonel Torres and then a local ophthalmologist came by to check on his eye. He was in the clinic for about four hours and then he returned to the set once the swelling had gone down.

"We were all pretty impressed. Shia's making a lot of friends on the set of this film - he's a real guy who smokes like a fiend. To get up from a movie explosion, which leaves you injured, and get back in there is cool.

"He's got broken fingers from his car crash this summer and now his eyelid has been slashed open. I guess he's lucky he still has his sight.

Meanwhile, soldiers and airforce officials who are helping director Michael Bay make the second Transformers film while on leave are learning it pays to get on camera.

The WENN source says, "There are about 200 real extras and some of them have landed scenes in the film. One supervisor has landed the part of a Jordanian officer who is involved in a crash in the film. It's great - and everyone is being paid $8-an-hour to be here. There's servicemen from Texas and New Mexico and even a few Green Berets here."

Michael Bay will shoot select scenes of his new action blockbuster “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” with IMAX cameras, the IMAX Corporation, DreamWorks and Paramount announced Tuesday.

Bay will integrate the IMAX footage with CGI to create an unprecedented look and feel for the highly anticipated sequel to last year's box office hit, “Transformers.”

The movie sequences shot in traditional 35mm will be digitally re-mastered to appear in the traditional "letterbox" shape, while scenes shot with IMAX's cameras will expand vertically to fill the entire IMAX screen.

"The extraordinary level of detail and intensity captured by the IMAX camera creates many exciting possibilities for us with this film," Bay said.

“Revenge of the Fallen” stars Shia Labeouf, Megan Fox, John Tutrurro and Tyrese Gibson. Watch for the sequel in theaters June 26, 2009.

Today, IMAX Corporation announced that Michael Bay will shoot certain key scenes of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with IMAX cameras. 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' To Feature Three IMAX Scenes

30 September 2008 12:47 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

The Dark Knight isn't just bitchslapping Hollywood records, it's also changing the way blockbusters will be made.

Seeing the dollar signs and creative freedom that shooting scenes in IMAX technology gave director Christopher Nolan and The Dark Knight, other filmmakers are planning to use the same approach. Jon Favreau has already said that, budget permitting, he'd like to shoot some scenes for Iron Man 2 with the large format cameras. Eagle Eye director D.J. Caruso has the same thing up his sleeve for an adaptation of Y: The Last Man.

Now Michael Bay is stepping up to the 70mm camera, with Variety reporting that he will shoot at least three scenes from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen using the IMAX technology.

Last summer, Transformers was a big hit in IMAX theaters, although it was just a standard up-conversion of the existing 35mm print. But with The Dark Knight making $60 million

On-Set Photos of Jason from New 'Friday the 13th'

30 September 2008 10:32 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Whatever you think about the remake of Friday the 13th, it's definitely going to generate a fair amount of opening weekend box office. Like Rob Zombie's Halloween before it, there's in undeniable curiosity for these things, and when you take aim at the big three (both of these movies and Nightmare on Elm Street), it's not as tough a sell as, say, The Amityville Horror or The Hills Have Eyes. A lot of the work is done for you just by embarking on the remake in the first place.

Still, you can't go shot-for-shot and tell the exact same story again. Zombie added to Halloween by including more of Michael Myers' backstory, and I thought that was fine. Rob Zombie's problem is that he writes the worst dialogue on the planet, but the idea was probably something a remake needed to be a little different.

I'm not 100% sold

Happy New Year to all my brothers and sisters. May 5769 kick a whole lot more ass than 5768. While over 98% of Hollywood takes the day off, here's what's happening:

Variety reports that Michael Bay has taken a page from Christopher Nolan and will shoot "at least three action set pieces" using IMAX cameras during Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Usually I'd reserve this spot for a Bay joke, but I truly think this is a great thing for a film like Transformers. The action scenes in the last one felt claustrophobic (especially toward the end), and so utilizing IMAX would allow Bay and Co. to open it up and really have fun with the thing. Visually, this could add a lot to the film. Hopefully they'll use it for some massive robot battle.

Transformers 2 Being Shot In IMAX

29 September 2008 11:47 PM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

I'm already a little tired on Hollywood's rush to run out and imitate The Dark Knight, but there's one thing Christopher Nolan did which hopefully every blockbuster movie will have the good sense to copy: filming in IMAX. It's more than a gimmick, Nolan used switching between IMAX and normal film as part of telling his story. Others may not be as skillfull at doing it, but having part of your movie in the best available format for watching anything, that being IMAX, can never be a bad thing. According to Variety one of the first movie's to follow in The Dark Knight's IMAX footsteps will be Transformers 2. Michael Bay is planning to shoot at least three of his big action set pieces using IMAX cameras. What better way to show off giant freakin robots than in giant freakin IMAX. It's a natural fit. Inspired by Christopher Nolan's choice to shoot scenes with IMAX cameras in The Dark Knight, Michael Bay will be shooting 3 separate scenes for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with IMAX cameras. "Michael Bay will film at least three action setpieces using IMAX cameras for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which is lensing." This is news is incredibly exhilarating to hear, especially because I proclaimed the IMAX scenes in The Dark Knight to be one of the aspects that made the film revolutionary. Plus it's exciting to think about seeing full-size robots fighting in glorious 70mm IMAX! Just to clarify what this means, Michael Bay will be shooting at least 3 action scenes with IMAX cameras. Variety and our friend Alex are saying that Transformers Revenge of the Fallen will get the IMAX filming treatment which means we will get to see giant robots in super high def. Alot of you might be saying why do I care since IMAX is not in my area? The answer is BluRay.

They can then use the same IMAX technology on the BluRay which means you can watch every little robot bolt in uber high def on your BluRay player. Considering the size and scoop of this $300million sequel it comes as no surprise that Michael Bay wants to blow stuff up in IMAX Hi Def.

Kevin's Review: Eagle Eye - A Familiar and Disappointing Sight

27 September 2008 1:53 PM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Shia Labeouf is unquestionably a hot commodity nowadays, and after seeing the previews for Eagle Eye, I had grounds to expect it to be the next blockbuster thriller. My expectation seemed reasonable, since the film reunited Labeouf and director D.J. Caruso from the respectable Disturbia, and the original idea for Eagle Eye came from Steven Spielberg, no less. But you know what they say about judging a book by its cover. Eagle Eye may look promising on paper, but no degree of ridiculous gadgetry or blinding car crash can keep you from seeing the real truth - the film is an explosive disappointment. Films that occupy the space of flashy, big-budget actioners are usually pretty vapid affairs. And that's fine. I definitely enjoy the likes of Michael Bay and am perfectly willing to go for a mind-numbing ride. Eagle Eye fails in crafting itself a likable position, since, ironically, the

LaBeouf Cleared of Drunk Driving

25 September 2008 6:30 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Shia LaBeouf is celebrating after learning he won't be charged with drunk driving following a July car accident in Hollywood that left him with a shattered hand.

Authorities arriving at the scene suspected the Transformers star had been drinking, but the Los Angeles District Attorney has declared there isn't enough evidence to bring a case against the actor.

LaBeouf, who was arrested before undergoing hand surgery after the collision, has already avoided blame in the near-fatal accident - 21-year-old Simon Herbert was cited for running a red light and causing the crash last month.

LaBeouf's Transformers director Michael Bay has never doubted his young star's sobriety on the night of the crash.

At the time of the accident, Bay said, "He was not drunk. He was drinking hours and hours before... That's (DUI rumor) gonna go away..
