The Good, The Bad And The Wtf: Sands of Not My Freakin' Dime

4 November 2009 1:09 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

It's the mid-week report of the good, bad and you-know-what-the-what here, as we compile the movie news from the past week and a half. Yes, you'll have more at the end of the week—but for now, let us all cringe together as we see stomach news of the 2012 motion sickness experience, an Mib without Will Smith, and the audacity of some people to shoot a barely visible topless scene and hype it up like it was Basic Instinct 3.

The Good

• For years, there have been several attempts to do a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, none of them ever came close to moving ahead. Speaking to MTV last week, director Robert Zemeckis set the record straight: that this time he is personally involved and really excited to do the sequel, and that he has commissioned original scribes Jeffrey Price and Peter Seaman to write the screenplay. Let's hope »

Meow: Character Poster for Indie 'Women in Trouble'

1 November 2009 6:02 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

We've seen posters and a trailer for Women in Trouble before, and it's one of those small, studio-free movies that really has to sell itself this way. It's actually got a really impressive cast; in no specific order, we've got Carla Gugino, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, Simon Baker, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Marley Shelton, and Adrianne Palicki.

The trailer's pretty entertaining but the posters, while individually good enough, are all over the road. I guess the connecting tissue is some homage to posters from the 1960s, but it's a fairly loose collection. The latest poster, which we received from Screen Media Films, is of Friday Night Lights-er Adrianne Palicki, who if nothing else, has perfect teeth.

In addition to big casting news involving the Coens and Josh Brolin, two big trailers featuring Damon made the news this week. The first is Green Zone, a reunion with his Bourne director Paul Greengrass. The second is likely to be a Best Picture nominee: Clint Eastwood's Invictus.

We've also got a beginning and and end: You can watch the opening sequence to Boondock Saints II, opening today in about 65 theaters, or the alternate ending to Paranormal Activity. You might also be interested in big news on the Spidey villain front and the identity of the next Golden Globes host.

Matt Damon and Josh Brolin Join Coen Brothers’ True Grit

29 October 2009 10:02 AM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in discussions to join the next Coen brothers film – remake of the 1969 western classic “True Grit.”

Jeff Bridges is already a member of the cast as Marshall “Rooster” Cogburn, originally played by John Wayne who won an Oscar for this role.

The original “True Grit,” based on the Charles Portis novel, tells the story of U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn and another man in uniform tracking the killer of a 14 year-old girl’s father.

The Coens are planning a more faithful adaptation of the novel so the story is told from the point-of-view of the young girl, and not of Rooster Cogburn (Bridges’ character).

Damon will play the Texas Ranger (originally played by Glen Campbell) that works with Cogburn and Brolin will fill the villain part – the murderous man they’re chasing.

Bridges already worked with the Coen Brothers and famously portrayed Jeffrey “The »

Screen Media Films has sent over a new character poster for Sebastian Gutierrez’s “Women in Trouble” featuring Adrianne Palicki, who plays happy-go-lucky adult film star Holly Rocket in the movie. The film co-stars Simon Baker, Garcelle Beauvais, Connie Britton, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Sarah Clarke, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Carla Gugino, Caitlin Keats, Rya Kihlstedt, Adrianne Palicki, Cameron Richardson, Marley Shelton, and is written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez. A pregnant porn star, a couple of call girls, a scorned psychiatrist, a teenage goth, a flight attendant with a crush on a famous passenger… the troubles of this cluster of La women couldn’t be more different, but on one crazy day feminine compassion will alter all of their lives. Brad Pitt & Josh Brolin Behind the Steering Wheel in Go Like Hell?

28 October 2009 11:40 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Many times an actor will express interest in a specific project, but the union of the two never really comes to fruition. A situation just like that surfaced recently in the choice to go with Clancy Brown for Guy Ritchie's Lobo as opposed to an interested Jeffrey Dean Morgan. A story in the same vein just might be in the works as The Playlist picked up on some info revealed in comedian Adam Corrolla's podcast when producer Lucas Foster (Law Abiding Citizen, Mr & Mrs. Smith) mentioned on the show that Brad Pitt and Josh Brolin have expressed interest in his project Go Like Hell, a fast-paced adrenaline-fueled racing flick for Fox. The film is based on A.J. Baime's non-fiction book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans, which tells the remarkable story of how Henry Ford II, with the help »

Coen Brothers Talk Casting and Storyline for True Grit Remake

27 October 2009 5:03 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Just yesterday we tipped you off about the recent talks of Matt Damon and Josh Brolin joining Jeff Bridges in the Coen Brothers remake of the classic 1969 western True Grit that starred John Wayne. After it was announced IGN took it upon themselves to get this info straight from the horse's mouth, and the Coens went even further to offer up some more details on the story and poke a little fun at the entertainment trades (Variety / Hollywood Reporter). On the casting announcements, without hesitation, Joel Coen said: "Yes. Jeff, Matt and Josh, that's true -- something that you read in the trades that actually turns out to be true!" What the trades haven't seemed to pick up or clarify, however, is the presentation style that this story will take on and how it is different from the original film in its more accurate portrayal of the source material ... »

Paramount Pictures and the Coen brothers are adamant that the new film is not necessarily a remake of the 1969 western that won John Wayne an Oscar, but a re-adaptation of the Charles Portis novel about a 14-year-old girl who's helped by an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman to track her father's killer.

Jeff Bridges has been negotiating to play the Wayne role, Marshall Reuben J. 'Rooster' Cogburn. Damon would take on the role that Glen Campbell played in the original -- a Texas Ranger tracking an outlaw. Brolin is in talks to play that outlaw.

Damon and Brolin Saddle up for the Coens’ True Grit Remake

27 October 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

With Rooster Cogburn already cast (that role went to the Coens’ familiar muse Jeff Bridges), the brothers Coen are looking at Matt Damon as an idealistic lawman who accompanies Cogburn on his quest for vengeance, and their former “No Country for Old Men” good guy Josh Brolin to play the film’s bad guy, a role played by Jeff Corey in the original film. (With Robert Duvall and Dennis Hopper also playing villains in the movie.) Both A-list actors are currently in negotiations, but considering that people will shoot their own mothers to work with the Coens, it’s in all likelihood a done deal. The only role left to be cast now is the 14-year old girl who seeks out drunken U.S. marshall Rooster Cogburn for aid in bringing in her father’s murderer. Since the girl is just as pivotal to the movie as Bridges’ Cogburn, it »

Woody Allen always likes to keep the details of his current projects close to his chest, but now the title of his latest has leaked out, along with some basic plot info. You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger (which sounds like the Woodster just came up with the idea after a visit to a fortune teller) will focus on different members of a family, their tangled love lives and the problems they must solve. Matt Damon & Josh Brolin In Talks For ‘True Grit’ Remake

27 October 2009 7:02 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Variety is reporting that Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks to join the previously announced Jeff Bridges in the Coen Bros.’ remake of the John Wayne classic, True Grit. On top of directing, the Coens have also written the script (as they do with virtually all their films) which is said to be more faithful to the original Charles Portis novel than the 1969 film.

Bridges was previously announced as being in talks to play U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn (played originally by Wayne) and that appears to still be the case. If cast, Damon would play the lawman (called La Boeuf in the original, played by Glen Campbell) who teams up with Cogburn, while Brolin would play the man who kills a 14-year old girl’s father. The girl has yet to be cast.

Adding to writing and directing duties, the Coens will also produce True Grit alongside Steven Spielberg and Scott Rudin. »

Matt Damon, Josh Brolin Considering Coens' True Grit Juggernaut

27 October 2009 6:45 AM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

· A month and a half ago, moviegoers' eyes alit at the news that the Coens wanted to re-adapt Charles Portis's classic Western novel True Grit -- with Jeff Bridges in the Rooster Cogburn role that won John Wayne an Oscar in 1969. Now it looks like they're getting especially serious, with Matt Damon and Josh Brolin's names arising as front-runners for the supporting roles of a lawman and a killer (respectively). All that's left is to pin down a young girl to play the daughter of the slain man whom Cogburn is seeking vengeance for; if anything, this sounds like the role Kiernan Shipka -- a/k/a patricidal Sally Draper -- was born to play. The Coen Brothers Reveal More on Their True Grit Remake

27 October 2009 6:10 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

While it was announced earlier this week that the Coen Brothers' new film had its two leading men, the Brothers themselves talked a bit more about the film itself. IGN UK spoke with the Coen Brothers about their new remake True Grit, and while they confirmed Jeff Bridges, Matt Damnon and Josh Brolin's involvement, they also spoke more about their take on the story. Here's what Ethan Coen said about the film.

"It's partly a question of point-of-view. The book is entirely in the voice of the 14-year-old girl. That sort of tips the feeling of it over a certain way. I think it's much funnier than the movie was so I think, unfortunately, they lost a lot of humour in both the situations and in her voice. It also ends differently than the movie did. You see the main character -- the little girl -- 25 years later when she's an adult. »

Joel and Ethan Coen are currently at work prepping to shoot their own take on the Charles Portis novel that became the adventure western True Grit, and Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are currently in talks to join the cast.

The original won John Wayne an Oscar for his turn as the stubborn, drunken, eye patched Us Marshall Rooster Cogburn. Jeff Bridges is already attached to play the role of Wayne's character , it will be the first time the actor has worked with the brothers since he justly abided as the Dude in The Big Lebowski.

Damon is lined up for the role of La Boeuf, a Texas Ranger who partners with Cogburn and the recently orphaned Mattie Ross as they track through dangerous native territory in search of justice for the murderer of the girl's father.
