Dumbest TV Biz Mistakes

30 December 2009 | newser.com | See recent newser news »

It’s been an embarrassing decade for TV networks, as the Hollywood Reporter proves with its list of the aughties’ biggest industry mistakes: Hollywood writers’ strike: It was unnecessary and “mutually destructive”—and for viewers, “has there ever been a longer 14 weeks?” ABC’s rejection of CSI : The show has scored $6 billion for CBS and prompted spurned producer Jerry Bruckheimer to walk out on Disney. Janet Jackson’s “nipple slip”: The infamous “wardrobe malfunction” cost CBS $550,000 in fines. MyNetworkTV: Its plan to show only “English-language telenovelas” failed; now it’s dominated by syndicated shows and reruns. Election 2000: Florida was »

New Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Featurette

28 December 2009 7:39 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

One of the major releases of summer 2010 is Disney’s adaptation of the popular video game, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The action-adventure film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as the title character and is produced (in his trademark style) by Jerry Bruckheimer.

The Prince of Persia trailer released in November to a slightly mixed reaction here at Screen Rant and part of that is due to the history of the genre lacking in quality and not staying true to the key elements of the games.

In addition to the teaser, we’ve seen some behind-the-scenes footage including the first Prince of Persia featurette which focused on the character of Dastan (Gyllenhaal), his background and his journey within the film. This second video we have below focuses on The Sands of Time itself in the form of the magical dagger that represents the plot device of the video game and this movie. »

'Prince of Persia' Featurette: 'The Sands of Time'

27 December 2009 9:13 PM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Jerry Bruckheimer's latest major push will be or is already Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It'll be out on Memorial Day weekend, but once upon a time it was supposed to be released in June of this year, the week before Transformers, in fact. The upcoming Tooth Fairy was also a June 19th film at one time, if you can believe it.

The extra time Bruckheimer and Disney gave Persia allows for things like this, the second in what promises to be a long line of featurettes related to the video game adaptation. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to them so far, like Watchmen's once-a-month video journals, but it is keeping the name out there a little bit before the studio really starts pushing it, which should be sometime between Alice in Wonderland and the summer kick-off.

‘Prince of Persia’ Legos Reveal an Ostrich Race

27 December 2009 12:18 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

2010 is going to be a huge year for Disney.  The Mouse House may have made headlines in 2009 by acquiring Marvel and returning to 2D animation, but the studio is poised to have people talking in ‘10.  Two live action adaptations of their own classics (The Sorceror’s Apprentice and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland) and two anticipated sequels (Toy Story 3 and Tron Legacy) should be enough.

However, Disney has been sneaking plugs for their big summer blockbuster Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time into conversations.  People are curious about a shirtless Jake Gyllenhaal and what Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer has done with him.

That was a long way to go to get to Legos, but at least there’s a point here somewhere.  Lego fan site Brickset has five new Persia play sets featuring key scenes from the film, which means you can now collect Lego camels and figures with turbans. »

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice – Trailer

24 December 2009 5:11 PM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Directed by: Jon Turteltaub

Starring: Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina, Monica Bellucci

Rating: Nr

Release Date: July 16, 2010

Trailer Score: 5/10

My Thoughts: The legacy of Nic Cage’s haircuts is going to continue with this movie, which has the Cagemaster looking grayed and shaggy (or homeless). This style kind of brings me back to Bangkok Dangerous, a place I don’t want to revisit. His delivery of his few lines in this trailer don’t give me much hope. Listen to how he says “You are going to be a source for good, and a very important sorcerer.” It’s not gravelly enough to distance itself from just being Nic Cage with a magic wand. It’s also not very convincing. Consider his goofy tone with his goofy look, and you’ve got a skeptical situation. One of his more laughable performances? I really hope not. »

New Persia featurette

While everyone has been (rightly) drooling over Disney's Tron: Legacy and Alice In Wonderland, let's not forget that in 2010 the Mouse House will also be releasing Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time. In this new behind-the-scenes featurette on the film, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, star Jake Gyllenhaal and director Mike Newell all attempt to explain exactly what the Sands of Time are and what it does, etc. As Jake (as Dastan) notes, "Releasing the sand, sands back time!" Second Featurette For Prince of Persia is Released

23 December 2009 4:50 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The guys over at Wet, Dark and Wild have been in touch with us to show to give us a heads up on a new behind the scenes featurette for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. At first glance, it looks like the featurette that we posted the other day focusing on Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal), this new version looks more closely at the dagger that Dastan finds before revealing The Sands of Time.

The featurette looks at how the dagger was designed while Jerry Bruckheimer and director, Mike Newell explain a bit more about how the Sands of Time actually works as well as seeing a bit more footage that we’ve not seen previously. I’ve embedded the featurette below for your viewing pleasure.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is released 28th May 2010 and also stars Gemma Arterton and Ben Kingsley.

Two New Images From Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

22 December 2009 9:36 PM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Two new images have hit the net for Disney’s big screen adaptation of the popular video game series, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan, Gemma Arterton as damsel in distress, Tamina and Ben Kingsley as the evil sorcerer Nizam, the film is directed by Mike Newell.

The images, one of which is Gyllenhaal in full body armour, the other featuring him and Gemma Arterton, come to us courtesy of Fantasy.fr. Personally I’m still unsure as to whether Disney can pull this one off, but then again I felt the same about Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and look how cool that turned out. Check out the images below:

2 New Prince of Persia Images Hit the Web

22 December 2009 4:52 PM, PST | FusedFilm | See recent FusedFilm news »

Fantasy.fr has released two new images from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which will be released in theaters nationwide on May 28, 2010. Both images feature its two stars, Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton.

The images are kind of lame and not showy at all but worth mentioning I guess for fans of series.

Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a street urchin in 6th century Persia. After showing valor in battle, he is adopted by the king as his heir, so the king’s two sons will not fight over the throne. He teams up with Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) to rescue the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that controls time, from the hands of the villainous nobleman, Nizam (Ben Kingsley).

Blu-ray review: ‘G-Force’ is the best movie about guinea pig spies ever made

22 December 2009 1:57 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Disney’s G-Force is hands-down the best fusion of CGI technology and live action movie based on guinea pig spies working for the U.S. government ever made. With its arrival on Blu-ray, families can now watch rodents fight back the tide of megalomaniacs from the comfort of their own home. Is G-Force fun? Yes, if you’re under 10 or you’re infatuated with flashing lights, fast-moving camera work and arch-stereotypes wrapped in fur. Perhaps I’m being too hard. The camera-work isn’t that fast.

Though I surmised the plot earlier, it may prove helpful if I told you that Bill Nighy plays Saber, a businessman who the FBI (aka The Feds) thinks is selling military technology to the Chinese. He has implanted military-grade computer chips in his appliances, from coffee makers to telephones. The catch? The devices turn into killers. Yes, Mr. Coffee may throw burning-hot java on »

G-Force on Blu-Ray

22 December 2009 11:41 AM, PST | www.canmag.com | See recent CanMag news »

Jerry Bruckheimer made a guinea pig action movie for kids, and it looked just like a big Jerry Bruckheimer movie. So the Blu Ray release of G-Force looks just like a big Jerry Bruckheimer Blu Ray.

On Blu-Ray: G-Force

It.s perfectly clear in that unreal, glossy way that Bruckheimer movies are. The light glows on the characters and there are lots of pretty colors sparkling around . fireworks, toys, whatever they can find to blow up. You see all the detail in the environments and the CGI characters, which look totally real and hold up to HD scrutiny. »

New Images from Prince of Persia

22 December 2009 9:29 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

French website, Fantasy.fr have gotten hold of a couple of new images from Disney / Jerry Bruckheimer’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time which is due for release early summer 2010. I think we may have seen the one of Jake Gyllenhaal on his own previously but the one of him and Gemma Arterton together is definitely new. Mike Newell takes the reigns directing while the supporting cast includes Alfred Molina, Ben Kingsley and Steve Toussaint

The live action movie is based on the computer game, Prince of Persia and from the trailers that we’ve seen looks like we’re going to be taken on quite a roller-coaster ride! It’s out May 28th and we’ll be bringing you lots more in the new year.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘G-Force’ Offers Jerry Bruckheimer Lobotomy For Kids

21 December 2009 9:10 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Here’s one of the year’s lamest excuses for children’s entertainment. Like “Shorts” and “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs,” it assumes that young minds crave little more than frantic and shrill zaniness. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer views kids in the same way he views adults: as human guinea pigs in need of being dumbed down.

Like his equally abysmal “Kangaroo Jack,” “G-Force” is an adult action comedy that just happens to feature animated characters. In its theatrical format, the film pushed the boundaries of 3D effects, culminating in an experience as headache-inducing and empty headed as James Cameron’s “Avatar.” Its 2D presentation on Blu-ray is vastly preferable, though the film still amounts to little more than a cynical exercise in special effects technology, complete with awful dialogue, uninspired animation and a script assembled out of the most audience-insulting cliches.

Blu-Ray Rating: 1.5/5.0

Video - 'Prince of Persia: The Featurette of Dastan'

19 December 2009 3:48 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

The trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time showed us quite a bit of action, looking every bit the Jerry Bruckheimer summer movie it's been designed to be. Now there's a new featurette that focuses on Dastan, the Jake Gyllenhaal character.

Gyllenhaal joins director Mike Newell and Lord Bruckheimer in talking a little bit abot the character and the genesis of the subtitle, The Sands of Time. There's also what I think is our first look at Alfred Molina, so that's good news for the ladies.

There appear to heavy doses of action in this flick, a lot of it performed by Gyllenhaal himself, and it also looks like it's following the formula of Pirates of the Caribbean, with more saucy humor that you might have originally expected. »

Rob Marshall Talks Pirates of the Caribbean 4

18 December 2009 1:25 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine) has been the director attached to the upcoming 4th installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, On Stranger Tides. Even though we recently reported that Marshall was a lock for Pirates 4, apparently that lock isn’t as tight as first surmised.

However, Marshall is indeed trying to work out any wrinkles between himself and the job as captain of Disney’s Pirates ship.

Marshall himself spoke exclusively to Coming Soon this week and had this much to offer:

I was so surprised they called me…It was Johnny Depp and Jerry Bruckheimer. Jerry called me, but Johnny was interested in working with me. It’s a wonderful thing when something like that happens, so we sat and met and he could not have been more lovely. He’s the nicest man. I’ve been very lucky to work with some great people and he’s one of them. »
