Like many, I came to know and love The Boondock Saints through DVD (and now Blu-ray.) Browsing through my local DVD retailer, I checked out their new releases and saw the film for a reasonable price. This was also at a time I had decided I wanted to be a filmmaker so I was interested in seeing obscure, off-beat films. So I purchased the flick, went home, and was instantly assaulted by all of it’s awesome. From the unrelenting action to Willem Dafoe’s outlandish performance, I was thoroughly entertained by what Troy Duffy had delivered and eagerly anticipated the sequel, which by this point in time was still rumored.
Well here we are, ten years after the first film debuted and The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day is upon us. While it’s been playing New York and L.A., everyone else gets it this weekend. When »

There are plenty of trippy movie scenes – but watching them sober makes you feel like the designated driver in a roomful of drunks
Thirty-six years ago, I dropped a tab of Lsd. It was Ok, but I never felt the urge to do it again, and never thought much about it – until the other day, when I was watching Taking Woodstock. To the sound of Love's The Red Telephone, Ang Lee serves up an acid trip so uncannily spot-on, I swear it gave me my first ever flashback.
It's not as though there's ever been a shortage of trippy scenes in films. It's just they always seemed to chime more with the experiences of the film-makers than with my own. Indeed, watching them sober, you often feel like the designated driver in a roomful of babbling drunks. In the aptly-named The Trip, Peter Fonda has a psychedelic experience in which, »

What's going on with Universal's "The Wolfman?" First, it was the problematic release date. First, the Benicio Del Toro-starrer was supposed to be released Feb. 13 of this year, then was moved to April 3, and then Nov. 6. Finally, the film is supposed to howl into theaters Feb. 12 of next year. (See "What? "The Wolfman" Moved Again? See What Else Universal is Changing")
Now, we're learning that composer Danny Elfman has exited the project! Cinemusic is reporting that, "There were rumblings deep in the Elfman fan community. And it looks like those rumblings are now mumblings . Danny Elfman has left The Wolf Man, apparently due to scheduling conflicts. But if you believe rumors, it.s due to problems with the film."
I'm tired of this film already and it's not even out yet! »

More behind-the-scenes trouble with The Wolf Man, Universal’s much-delayed horror project starring Benicio del Toro? Sure sounds like it.
According to Cinemusic, Danny Elfman, known for the operatic scores of films like Batman, is out as composer of The Wolf Man. He has been replaced by Paul Halsinger, who was part of the 80’s synth-rock group Tangerine Dream. Halsinger composed the scores for the films Underworld, Crank, and Death Race.
It sounds like the latest setback for the project, which has been pushed back four times since its original November 12, 2008 release date. Universal shifted The Wolf Man to February 12, 2009, then April 3, 2009, followed by a move to November 6, 2009. Now it’s due to come out on February 12, 2010, hopefully taking advantage of a good weekend for horror films in recent years.
Joe Johnston, director of The Wolf Man, had been enthusiastic about potentially hiring Elfman as his composer. In a 2008 interview, »

And The Wolfman's long road to the big screen takes yet another unforeseen twist. This time it's a situation around the film's score that needs some extra Tlc.
Cinemusic reports today that due to "scheduling conflicts" Danny Elfman has had to abandon his duties on the upcoming remake, and in his place will be Paul Haslinger, whose work you may be familiar with from Underworld, Death Race, Vacancy, and Crank.
Haslinger is set to begin recording in January for the film's February 13th, 2010, release date. Talk about cutting it close. We'll keep our ears to the ground for any further developments.

Two new posters for Joe Johnston’s old-school horror, The Wolfman, have surfaced online, over at Cinematical and AICN.The AICN one, a very shadowy glimpse at Benicio Del Toro’s eponymous furball, is wonderful: moody and gloriously evocative of the atmosphere that Johnston is trying to evoke. The Cinematical one, which looks like someone’s taken the bit from the movie where Emily Blunt’s heroine is trying to avoid the attentions of the dastardly lycanthrope and fiddled around with it in Photoshop, is less impressive, although it still suggests the film’s sinister and noir-ish mood. But don’t just take our word for it. What to do about The Wolfman? Originally, this was a fantastic idea. Universal was going all the way back to its vaults and reintroducing the monster movies of the 1930s, most of which have stood the test of time. You had Rick Baker doing make-up effects (the created the Oscar in that category for his work on An American Werewolf in London, still unsurpassed), and Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) lined up to direct Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, and Hugo Weaving.
Romanek left and was replaced by Joe Johnston (Jurrasic Park III) and then there were grumblings that the visual effects were so bad a fair percentage of them had to be redone. The movie went from April to November to the following February, and that's where we are now: A re-tooled bit of classic monster madness opening on Valentine's Day, already carrying more than its share of dashed expectations. »

Universal has debuted two posters for The Wolfman featuring stars Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt. They look excellent are part of a solid marketing campaign that has deftly redirected the public’s perception after rumors of unrest during the production.
The first with Blunt came out earlier today from Cinematical with promises of a second soon after. I was hoping the second would fit into the same forest scene, but show the Wolfman stalking his prey. However, the second from AICN is just a close up of the lead who could use a razor.
Not pictured, obviously, are Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving, but it’s possible we might see a poster for each of them as well. Also, if you’re wondering why I used Benicio Del Toro’s first name in the headline, it’s because we’re on a first name basis. We’d almost have to be, »

The film then details events during Lawrence's past that led to his conflict with his father as he hunts for a murderer, which turns out to be a werewolf.
