We haven't heard much lately about Dear Mr. Gacy, the film adaptation of The Last Victim, the memoirs of Jason Moss, who corresponded with serial killer John Wayne Gacy; but today brought forth a bonanza of information, including a teaser, a clip, and the chance for members of the Dread Central community to ask star William Forsythe any questions they might have regarding the new film and/or his portrayal of Gacy.
Currently Dear Mr. Gacy producer Clark Peterson is focusing on the social promotion aspect for the film, which is due out next year. An official site was recently launched, and in addition Forsythe will be doing a video shoot in the Chicago area next Monday and Tuesday, December 14 and 15, 2009. The actor will be talking to several of Gacy's old acquaintances and his defense attorney, as well as detectives that were on the famous case, which celebrates its 30th anniversary next year. »

It was nearly two years ago that I first told you of a creature feature called The Platform starring William Forsythe and Art Lafleur about a crew trapped aboard an oil rig with a mutant monster. Been so long I had completely forgotten about the film until the other day when I decided to check on the status of it. At the time information was scarce. Now I find the film has a new title - The Rig, a new website, and a new trailer.
"When a tropical storm forces an offshore drilling company to evacuate non-essential personnel from the "Charlie" oil rig, the small but experienced crew left behind settles in to ride out the storm. Isolated on the rig, their routine night is interrupted when a crew member goes missing and an extensive search proves futile. Slowly, they discover that a deadly creature is stalking the crew, eliminating them one by one. »

From the moment iMURDERS (just out on DVD from Anchor Bay) begins, the viewer is struck with a feeling of, to use on-line slang, Wtf? Halfway through the credits is a video interlude depicting a cheating husband getting busted by his wife, and a subsequent gunshot. We don’t see the faces of anyone involved, or even who takes the bullet. Once the remaining credits come to an end, this event isn’t brought up again for more than half the movie; we literally forget all about it until the shooting resurfaces. What unspools instead is a thinly veiled morality tale for the Internet generation, hiding behind a murder mystery.
As the story proper begins, we meet Sandra Wilson (Terri Colombino) as she’s about to move into a new apartment. Having learned about the listing from one of her on-line friends, Sandra is eager to show her less tech-savvy »

There are plenty of actors I wish would work with the Coen brothers again: Tim Robbins; Nicolas Cage; Beth Grant; William Forsythe; Tony Shalhoub; Philip Seymour Hoffman. Of course, the one that most of us Coen fans want the most is "The Dude" himself, Jeff Bridges. Well we're in luck, because the "Big Lebowski" star is in talks to join Joel and Ethan Coen for their remake of the 1969 comedic western "True Grit," according to Variety.
Based on Charles Portis' novel, the original "True Grit" starred an eye patch-wearing John Wayne as 'Rooster' Cogburn, an aging U.S. marshal who helps a 14-year-old girl find the man who killed her father. Also along for the ride in the original is country singer Glen Campbell, who additionally performed the film's Oscar-nominated theme song. "Grit" is mostly remembered for being the film that finally won Wayne his only Academy Award, which »

This upcoming weekend marks the return of the Texas Frightmare Weekend in Dallas, Texas, and while our staffer Phil Fasso always makes the effort to hit up this particular convention, he sent along this message to our fellow Icons readers -
"Regrettably I won't be able to make my planned trip to the Dallas are for this weekend's Texas Frightmare Weekend, but that shouldn't stop you horror fans from going. Tfw is the largest con in the area, and this year offers some great guests to Texans, such as Alice Cooper, Tobe Hooper, C.J. Graham, the great Dick Miller, the cast of Laid to Rest, and Icon's own John Toranni, many of whom will make their first appearance in the area (incidentally, Toranni is listed as a Texas filmmaker, but he's actually a fellow Long Islander). Last year's Tfw was one of the greatest cons I've ever been to, »

Two nights on the town (a little town I like to call "Manhattan"), and oh the difference in granularity. Friday night we descended into the funky womb of Symphony Space's Leonard Nimoy Thalia to catch Keigwin Kabaret, featuring members of Larry Keigwin's dance company in cahoots with a a beanpole emcee with a husky come-on voice and a disinclination to wear pants, a lariat twirler with a barnyard secret to tell, a mermaid in a wheelchair afflicted with Marlene Dietrich malaise, and enough pulchitrude to add a few new continent shelves to the topopraphy of the female form. Each time the Keigwin dancers returned to the intimate stage, hypodermic jabs of energy cut a jagged swath through the theater. You ask: How can a pointy needle cut a jagged swath? Excellent question. I wish I knew. And yet I refuse to retract or revise the metaphor, since.it conveys the »

When I saw Jesse Moss in The Uninvited, playing the tragically short-lived boyfriend, he didn't seem particularly impressive or memorable. But apparently he's got one thing going for him that no other actor does: His name is almost exactly the same as the lead character in Dear Mr. Gacy, and that may just be how he snagged the role in the upcoming drama. Jesse Moss will play Jason Moss, a college student who became obsessed with serial killer John Wayne Gacy, narrowly escaped an attack from him, and visited the killer on death row before ending his own life in 2006. THR says the producers are selling the story as a real-life Silence of the Lambs, but it's hard to imagine that movie working so well with Clarice biting it in the end. William Forsythe, recently seen in Rob Zombie's Halloween, will play Gacy, a Chicago resident who raped and murdered »

Word came down via THR this morning that Monster producer Clark Peterson is returning to the world of serial killers with Dear Mr. Gacy. The film will be an adaptation of The Last Victim, the memoirs of Jason Moss, who corresponded with serial killer John Wayne Gacy during the last year of the killer’s life and narrowly avoided being killed himself.
William Forsythe will star as Gacy, while The Uninvited lead Jesse Moss will take on the role of Jason Moss. Mirage director Svetozar Ristovski is making his English-language debut with the film, which starts shooting in Vancouver later this month.
It’ll be interesting to see a true-crime movie with such a well-known lead taking on the role of the clown-faced killer; hopefully this will lead to bigger and better things for Forsythe. Peterson is also producing the long discussed remake of Scanners, which currently has David Goyer on board as writer. »

According to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Clark Peterson, whose credits include the Oscar-winning Monster, returns to serial-killer cinema with Dear Mr. Gacy. The movie is based on the memoir The Last Victim by Jason Moss.
Award-winning Macedonian director Svetozar Ristovski makes his English-language debut on the movie, which recounts the real-life correspondence between college student Moss and the imprisoned child murderer. Moss wound up visiting Gacy on Death Row and almost became one of his victims; following the book’s publication, he committed suicide in 2006. “The theme here is once you encounter that kind of darkness, it’s hard to escape it,” Peterson tells the trade. “Jason seemed to be a success because he had this encounter with John Wayne Gacy, wrote a book and went on television. But ultimately it came to a tragic end.”
The Devil’S Rejects’ William Forsythe has been cast as Gacy, and Jesse Moss (no relation to Jason, »
