'Prince of Persia' Featurette: 'The Sands of Time'

10 hours ago | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Jerry Bruckheimer's latest major push will be or is already Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It'll be out on Memorial Day weekend, but once upon a time it was supposed to be released in June of this year, the week before Transformers, in fact. The upcoming Tooth Fairy was also a June 19th film at one time, if you can believe it.

The extra time Bruckheimer and Disney gave Persia allows for things like this, the second in what promises to be a long line of featurettes related to the video game adaptation. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to them so far, like Watchmen's once-a-month video journals, but it is keeping the name out there a little bit before the studio really starts pushing it, which should be sometime between Alice in Wonderland and the summer kick-off.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Is Still A Thing That Is Real

24 December 2009 10:58 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Disney’s big May tentpole, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time has been slowly but surely building up its marketing campaign since this past year’s Comic-Con, and now the Mouse House has released a new online featurette.

We’ve had the first official trailer available for some time now, but buzz for the film has remained muted at best.  We could soon be experiencing a Kingdom of Heaven-esque box office disappointment from this film, dropping as it does at the beginning of the summer box office season.  It’s an understatement to say that Gyllenhaal appears miscast in the film, but the film itself doesn’t seem particularly appetizing either.  With CGI spectacles approaching such as Clash of the Titans and Iron Man 2, it’s easy to see how Prince of Persia: Sands of Time could be lost in the hubbub.

However, there are a handful of bright spots. »

New Persia featurette

24 December 2009 1:42 AM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

While everyone has been (rightly) drooling over Disney's Tron: Legacy and Alice In Wonderland, let's not forget that in 2010 the Mouse House will also be releasing Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time. In this new behind-the-scenes featurette on the film, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, star Jake Gyllenhaal and director Mike Newell all attempt to explain exactly what the Sands of Time are and what it does, etc. As Jake (as Dastan) notes, "Releasing the sand, sands back time!" Duh. »

Second Featurette For Prince of Persia is Released

23 December 2009 4:50 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The guys over at Wet, Dark and Wild have been in touch with us to show to give us a heads up on a new behind the scenes featurette for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. At first glance, it looks like the featurette that we posted the other day focusing on Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal), this new version looks more closely at the dagger that Dastan finds before revealing The Sands of Time.

The featurette looks at how the dagger was designed while Jerry Bruckheimer and director, Mike Newell explain a bit more about how the Sands of Time actually works as well as seeing a bit more footage that we’ve not seen previously. I’ve embedded the featurette below for your viewing pleasure.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is released 28th May 2010 and also stars Gemma Arterton and Ben Kingsley.

Two New Images From Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

22 December 2009 9:36 PM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Two new images have hit the net for Disney’s big screen adaptation of the popular video game series, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan, Gemma Arterton as damsel in distress, Tamina and Ben Kingsley as the evil sorcerer Nizam, the film is directed by Mike Newell.

The images, one of which is Gyllenhaal in full body armour, the other featuring him and Gemma Arterton, come to us courtesy of Fantasy.fr. Personally I’m still unsure as to whether Disney can pull this one off, but then again I felt the same about Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and look how cool that turned out. Check out the images below:

Blu-ray Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

20 December 2009 2:45 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince it finally hits home that Warner Bros.' phenomenally successful cash cow is starting to come to its conclusion. The battle between the boy wizard Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his ghostly nemesis Voldermort (Ralph Fiennes) nears its climax during the student's sixth term at Hogwarts, and for all the twists, turns and surprises the revelation that the end is nigh might just be the most startling one of all.

This comes from the point of view of someone who has not always been this series' biggest fan. I wasn't impressed with director Chris Columbus' first two chapters, their sluggish pace and simplistic storytelling drove me nuts. Yet Alfonso Cuarón's magnificent third entry (still the best of the bunch) blew me away, Mike Newell's follow-up felt more like a John Hughes meets J.K Rowling hybrid than it did anything else. »

Video - 'Prince of Persia: The Featurette of Dastan'

19 December 2009 3:48 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

The trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time showed us quite a bit of action, looking every bit the Jerry Bruckheimer summer movie it's been designed to be. Now there's a new featurette that focuses on Dastan, the Jake Gyllenhaal character.

Gyllenhaal joins director Mike Newell and Lord Bruckheimer in talking a little bit abot the character and the genesis of the subtitle, The Sands of Time. There's also what I think is our first look at Alfred Molina, so that's good news for the ladies.

There appear to heavy doses of action in this flick, a lot of it performed by Gyllenhaal himself, and it also looks like it's following the formula of Pirates of the Caribbean, with more saucy humor that you might have originally expected. »

Xmas Video Vault: The Box of Delights

18 December 2009 3:07 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

A quarter of a century ago, a few weeks before Christmas, this happened…

…and children’s TV, particularly at Christmastime, was never the same again.

It has been twenty five years since the BBC’s adaptation of John Masefield’s magical fantasy The Box of Delights appeared and time has not weathered its charm and festive cheer.

If you find yourself shouting the word ‘Splendiferous!’ when opening your presents on Christmas morning, or muttering that Granny nabbing the last After Eight mint is the ‘Purple Pim’ then chances are you’ve seen, and fallen in love with, The Box of Delights. It is a delightful yarn, spun with a love of Boy’s Own adventures and using some innovative animation effects to create a television event that is a treasure trove of nostalgic joy.

It begins with the impeccably posh young boy Kay Harker as he returns home from boarding »

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ Looks Amazing in HD

17 December 2009 1:04 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is one of the most visually striking films of a year filled with achievements in great cinematography. I love Deakins’ work on “A Serious Man,” Richardson’s on “Inglourious Basterds,” and Christian Berger’s on “The White Ribbon,” but Bruno Delbonnel (who also lensed “Amelie”) has helped produce one of the most aesthetically remarkable films of the year, easily the most interesting interplay of shadow and light yet seen in a “Potter” film. Naturally, it makes for a great fit with the 1080p of Blu-Ray.

Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0

After shuffling directors for four installments in a row from Chris Columbus to Alfonso Cuaron to Mike Newell, the “Harry Potter” series settled on the relatively unknown David Yates for the final four films (“The Order of the Phoenix,” “The Half-Blood Prince,” and the two-part “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”).
