Perez Embarrasses Dafoe Over Nude Scene

3 December 2009 8:16 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Willem Dafoe was left red faced in front of his Hollywood peers at the Gotham Independent Film Awards when actress Rosie Perez commented on the size of his manhood while presenting an award.

Dafoe's latest movie Antichrist wasn't nominated for any awards at the New York ceremony, but Perez made sure to mention the actor's full frontal scene when she stepped onstage to present the Best Director accolade on Monday night.

Perez singled out Dafoe in the audience and candidly asked if the size of his manhood in the movie "was the real thing", prompting the embarrassed star to nod - but the outspoken actress' attempt to draw laughs from the shocked crowd fell flat.

A guest tells the New York Daily News, "The audience was absolutely silent. She was completely inappropriate, and everyone looked really uncomfortable." »

Gotham Indie Awards Crown 'Hurt Locker,' 'The Maid'

1 December 2009 12:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

In case you missed the live-Tweeting and live-blogging from last night's Gotham Independent Awards at NYC's Cipriani, we're here to help. Indie favorite The Hurt Locker took home the two big awards, Best Feature and Best Ensemble Performance, although The Maid's Catalina Saavedra snagged the award for Best Breakthrough Actor, beating out The Hurt Locker's Jeremy Renner, Ben Foster (The Messenger), Patton Oswalt (Big Fan), and Souleymane Sy Savane (Goodbye Solo). Robert Siegel, who also wrote The Wrestler and wrote and directed Big Fan, snatched the Breakthrough Director award from The Hurt Locker's Kathryn Bigelow and the Coens.

Meanwhile, the stomach-churningly fascinating Food Inc. won best doc for its close look at how what's on our plates really got there, and how big biz helped (or harmed, as the case may be). And the Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You award went to You Wont Miss Me, »

Gotham Awards 2009 Winners

30 November 2009 7:35 PM, PST | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Catalina Saavedra in The Maid (top); Stella Schnabel in You Won’t Miss Me (middle); The Hurt Locker by Kathryn Bigelow (bottom) "Kudos to you, great performance," Rosie Perez told Willem Dafoe, after saying that Lars von Trier’s Antichrist, a dark, sex-filled drama in which Dafoe co-stars with Charlotte Gainsbourg, was a "sick-ass movie." That was followed by: "Was that your … Oooohhhh. It was?" And so went the 2009 edition of the Gotham Awards, in which performers cracked jokes that would be unacceptable on network TV. Unfortunately, that didn’t necessarily make the jokes any funnier or the show any better than, say, the Oscars or the Golden Globes, but on the bright side some of the Gotham choices were [...] »

Will Ferrell and celeb co-stars get goofy at Knicks-Celtics game (IrishCentral)

24 November 2009 11:45 AM, PST | IrishCentral | See recent IrishCentral news »

The courtside seats at Sunday’s New York Knicks – Boston Celtics game were filled with celebrity NBA fans. Irish-American funny man Will Ferrell was spotted goofing off with Brooke Shields. But the two celebs had an ulterior motive for cheering on the Knicks – they were at the game to film a scene for their upcoming film “The Other Guys.” Fellow stars of the movie, Rosie Perez and Irish-American actor Mark Wahlberg, were at the filming. Wahlberg, who is extremely proud of his Boston Irish roots, went so far as to sport a Knicks jersey. According to IMDb, Ferrell and Wahlberg play detectives in “The Other Guys,” which also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Mendes, Anne Heche and Paris Hilton. It seems that Ferrell’s status as Forbes’ Most Overpaid Actor hasn’t hurt his ability to churn out star-studded blockbuster films!   »

Indochine's 25th-Anniversary Party

23 November 2009 3:02 PM, PST | Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news »

The scene at Indochine. Photographs by Todd Eberle. It was only fitting that one of the most decadent settings for New York City's 1980s excess, Indochine restaurant, should throw off the recession blues last Friday night to celebrate its 25th anniversary with an opulent bash, inspired by 1920s Shanghai. Luminaries such as Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts, Michael Keaton, and Rosie Perez flooded the packed Lafayette Street space and lounged in booths decorated as opium dens. "I don't think I've ever seen a velvet rope inside a velvet rope," commented one guest upon his arrival. Waitresses circled the heaving restaurant laden with saketinis and Indochine's signature pan-Asian goodies, causing at least one reveler to remark: "This is a bit like the subway at rush hour—there are certainly as many freaks!" It was true, as not much restraint was shown in the costume department from the guests or the scantily clad »

The Play’s the Thing for Aniston, Ashton, Demi, Brooke, and More

Too many stars to fit in one frame: Anthony Mackie, Brooke Shields, Jennifer Aniston, David Cross, Liev Schrieber, Naomi Watts, Jeremy Sisto, Emmy Rossum, Julia Stiles, and Gaby Hoffmann are among the cast members taking a curtain call after performing in the 24 Hour Plays. Kevin Mazur/Getty Images. It has been an unusually starry fall on Broadway—Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig in A Steady Rain, Jude Law in Hamlet, and, later this month, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury in A Little Night Music, just to name a few. But rarely has there been such assemblage of big names on one Broadway stage as there was last night at the American Airlines Theater. Celebrate The Birthday Of The Ak-47 Inventor With These Fire-Powered Movie Moments

10 November 2009 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Today marks a joyful anniversary for action movie fans and a rather unpleasant one for gun control advocates. Exactly 90 years ago, Mikhail Kalashnikov, the man who invented the Ak-47 assault rifle, was born in a small Siberian village. If we can, though, let us put aside the Ak's bloody legacy on the battlefield and focus on all the badassery the weapon has unleashed on the big screen.

Whether they're battling Russians, trading in black market goods or bang-bang-banging their way through the city streets, movie characters have embraced the trusty Ak or later variants like the Akm or Sks. And we, in turn, have embraced those bullet-spewing beauties. Here are some of our cinematic favs (click the image above to check out our Ak-47 flipbook gallery)...

Jennifer Plays With Demi, Emily, and Naomi in NYC

Jennifer Aniston was in La last week for her stylist's wedding, but she popped up in NYC last night to take part in the annual 24 Hour Plays on Broadway. She joined a handful of actor couples for the evening, including Emily Blunt and John Krasinki as well as Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts. Demi Moore was a lot more covered up than her recent W cover, as she posed with husband Ashton Kutcher. Jennifer joined her fellow thespians onstage to sing "Yellow Submarine" and take part in the hastily-written theater exercise, which was held to benefit arts in education programs in public schools. She took her bow next to a similarly-dressed Brooke Shields before moving on for some after-hours fun with Ashton and Demi. View 35 Photos › To see more from the event, just read more. 'Michael Jackson's This Is It' Draws Stars And Fans Around The World

28 October 2009 2:52 PM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

Yesterday, collaborators, family members, admirers and fans came together around the world to celebrate the premiere of "Michael Jackson's This Is It," the concert film that gives fans a chance to enjoy live performances of some of the King of Pop's signature hits one final time. The film premiered in 17 cities around the world simultaneously last night, and there were red carpet extravaganzas all over the world. In addition to the big event in Los Angeles (which saw Will Smith, Jennifer Lopez and Adam Lambert show up), there were high-profile premieres in New York (featuring Ice-t and Rosie Perez), Sydney, Australia (which featured an appearance by T-Pain), London (where Passion Pit showed up) and Johannesburg, South Africa (which saw a multitude of fans get together to perform the dance from "Thriller").

But perhaps the greatest (and most unhinged) premiere took place in Tokyo, Japan, where Lionel Richie greeted a multitude »

Preview: “Law & Order: Svu” Asks How Pedophile Rights Are Different From Gay Rights

21 October 2009 8:46 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

***Spoiler Alert*** This article reveals important plot points from tonight's Law & Order: Svu.

Is pedophilia, the sexual attraction some adults feel for children, an unchosen sexual orientation? If so, is it discrimination to criminalize consensual sexual relationships between adults and children?

These are some of the questions asked by “Hardwired,” a particularly provocative episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit running night on NBC.

The show begins like a typical episode, with a child’s sexual experimentation with another child leading to an investigation of both his wrestling coach and his step-father, who first befriended his mother (played Rosie Perez) while she and the boy were both in a homeless shelter.

Rosie Perez (center) guest stars on tonight's Law & Order Svu

When it becomes clear that one man is guilty, it eventually leads to an investigation of the leader of a “pedophile rights” activist group, Our Special Love. When irrefutable »

Kutcher To Make Broadway Debut

19 October 2009 6:36 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ashton Kutcher will scramble to make his Broadway debut later this month in The 24 Hour Plays - the actor will star in a production written and rehearsed in a single day.

Kutcher is among an ensemble of actors, writers and directors who will produce six short plays for the ninth annual event.

The production will raise money for actress Rosie Perez' Urban Arts Partnership, an organisation that brings arts education programs into New York City public schools.

Perez, who will also star in the series, risked upsetting show producers by revealing Kutcher's involvement on Monday, while chatting with U.S. talk show host Wendy Williams.

She said, "I'm going to break the news here. I know the producer's going to be p**sed off at me. We are going to have a wonderful actor making his Broadway debut November 9th - and that's Ashton Kutcher." »

Perez Considers Boob Job

19 October 2009 3:01 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Rosie Perez is contemplating breast enhancement surgery to give her curvy figure and her career a boost - in a bid to compete with younger Hollywood actresses.

The 45-year-old Pineapple Express star is proud of her assets, but worries her sagging breasts may need a lift to appeal to male audiences as she gets older.

She explains, "It's part of the misogyny in the world. Guys want younger girls and so I think they subconsciously make women think when you're over 40 you're done... and we (women) got smart and were like, 'Forget you, we're fabulous!'

"As time goes on, I will not be opposed to help them (my breasts) out a little bit."

And Perez has hit back at rumours she has already gone under the knife to sculpt her famous curves.

She adds, "These are my naturals (breasts)." »

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" Officially Gains a Gay Character

19 October 2009 10:48 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

***Spoiler warning!*** Stop reading if you don't want to learn the identity of the gay character on NBC's Law and Order: Special Victim's Unit.

Wednesday night's episode of Law & Order: Svu titled "Hardwired" and featuring Rosie Perez is sure to be controversial given it deals with pedophiles who claim their interest in children is an orientation like heterosexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality.

But gay viewers will be especially interested as the episode also finally confirms what many fans of the show have long suspected — that Special Agent George Huang, M.D. played by B.D. Wong is in fact a gay man.

The information is revealed when Huang becomes upset that a child molester is trying to argue that being a pedophile is no different than being gay or straight and that criminalizing pedophilia is akin to domonizing gays and lesbians. This prompts Huang to say it "insults his humanity as a gay man. »

Dear John Trailer, or Channing Tatum Finally Plays an Actual Emotional Human Being

15 October 2009 9:49 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Let’s face it, Channing Tatum and acting go together like Rosie Perez and sweet, soothing love songs. After “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”, I was all about to give the man’s ability to act, or indeed, emote in any honest way onscreen, for dead. Not so fast, my friends. Here’s the trailer for “Dear John”, Channing’s latest, a movie where, although he puts on Army fatigues, he doesn’t do whole lot of punching, fighting, or kick anyone in the face, which makes you wonder — what the hell were they doing casting Channing Tatum in this? As it turns out, maybe it was a brilliant casting choice. Okay, maybe not brilliant, but it certainly surprised me, at least from what little we see here.
