Exclusive Video: Carla Gugino Is One of the Women in Trouble

13 November 2009 6:09 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Career-wise, there seems to be no trouble on the horizon for actress Carla Gugino. The actress best known for Robert Rodriguez's Spy Kids films and her role on TV's Entourage has been busy lately working in some of Hollywood's most successful films starting with Rodriguez's Sin City in 2005 and followed by Night at the Museum with Ben Stiller, American Gangster opposite Russell Crow, Righteous Kill with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino and most recently the starring role in Disney's remake Race to Witch Mountain. But it was her role earlier this year as Sally Jupiter in Zach Snyder's brilliant comic book-adapted Watchmen that made her a household name amongst fan-boys and the actress will be collaborating once again with Snyder in his upcoming film Sucker Punch!. However, the she can currently be seen on screen as porn star Elektra Luxx in director Sebastian Gutierrez's new female-ensemble-comedy Women in Trouble, »

Harvey Keitel Joins Robert De Niro in Little Fockers

13 November 2009 1:14 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Are there no good dramatic roles left in Hollywood? Harvey Keitel has signed on to star in Little Fockers opposite Robert De Niro, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Remember the '70s, when Keitel and DeNiro were starring in edgy, challenging movies like Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver? Now, both seem to be confined to less-than-original comedies. Thankfully, at least DeNiro has a role in Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Machete.

And how about Dustin Hoffman? Is a possible appearance in Little Fockers the best he can expect? We recently overheard the tour-guide of a museum refer to Hoffman as "the guy from Meet the Fockers." Our thoughts: Anyone who knows Hoffman only from that movie should immediately be sent home with copies of The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, and Little Big Man.

Jessica Alba "MacHete" Poster!

12 November 2009 3:45 PM, PST | www.ohmygore.com/ | See recent OhMyGore news »

ComingSoon.net spotted a new poster for Robert Rodriguez's "MacHete" at the American Film Market (Afm) featuring Jessica Alba as Sartana! "MacHete" is based on the "fake" trailer in Rodriguez's 2007 "Grindhouse". The feature version of the trailer finds Machete (Danny Trejo) a renegade former Mexican Federale, roaming the streets of Texas after a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (Steven Seagal). Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (Jeff Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (Robert De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (Michelle Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Cheech Marin) his "holy" brother, and April (Lindsay Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. Taylor Lautner: Adorable asskicker in 2005

11 November 2009 8:00 AM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Chances are, I will never watch Robert Rodriguez's The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D. However, I have now watched the video of Taylor Lautner promoting the 2005 film on Access Hollywood by showcasing his extreme martial arts skills three times. Seriously impressive and screaming Gymkata Remake! (No, I'm not ready to let that dream go.) Watch that video after the jump, then check out two more clips in which young Lautner discusses his first-degree black belt ("I like this belt," he giggles, "It's like silk") and how difficult it is when your focus is constantly shifting between school and »

Martyn’s Top Ten Vampire Films

11 November 2009 7:43 AM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

The vampire has been a key figure in folklore, literature, television and cinema. Its popularity, at present, has never been so high. It is easy to see the appeal: immortality and sex. Since death is the fate that awaits us all, a creature that we invent and imbue with an indeterminate lifespan, captivates the collective imagination like no other. Due to sexual liberalism and relaxed censorship of the 1960s, the erotic sensibilities inherent in the mythology were allowed to fruition in cinema. What once was implied, could now be shown in all its sexy glory (see the films of Jean Rollin). Gothic horror and romanticism may be the classic home of the vampire, but in cinema, they have found a new place to spread wider-reaching nightmares.

In recent times, the everlasting monster has been tamed. Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga saw them turn into something akin to vegetarians and teen heart-throbs, »

Afm 2009 Promo Posters Part 1 + Steve Watches Afm’s Hot Tub Time Machine Red Band Trailer and Catches a 2nd MacHete Poster Featuring Lindsay Lohan as a Naughty Nun

10 November 2009 10:53 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Earlier today, I was at the American Film Market in Santa Monica. If you’re not familiar with Afm, it’s the place where film buyers from around the world come once a year to buy movies and also pre-buy films in development. Simply put, this is where a lot of money changes hands in the film industry and it’s where many decisions about what you and I get to see are made. In an effort to try and raise a film’s profile or attract film buyers, many of the studios print up promo art for movies in development or nearing completion. Almost none of the artwork will ever see the light of day outside of Afm, but if you’re a film junkie like me, then getting to see all this stuff is Christmas. After the jump you can take a look at the first grouping of »

Ashley Greene Sees ‘The Apparition’

6 November 2009 5:38 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Twilight is out of control, and now its floodgates have burst, spilling its contents everywhere. Bit players such as Ashley Greene from the Twilight films are now getting genre work — in this case, it’s The Apparition for Joel Silver’s Dark Castle production house.

(To be fair, I have no idea how big or small of a role Greene plays in the Twilight films, because I haven’t seen either of them yet. All I know is that she isn’t one of the dynamic duo the films center around.)

The Apparition is apparently (*yawn*) based on true events, and revolves around “a young couple haunted by a supernatural presence unleashed during a college experiment.” Ooh. The Stanford Prison Experiment with a supernatural twist?

Production will start in early February with writer/director Todd Lincoln at the helm. He’s pretty much a newbie, only having done effects work »

Updates on Robert Rodriguez’s Predators

5 November 2009 4:50 PM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

The original Predator inspired more American Film Market-screened knockoffs than just about any other movie, and the word on the street here at the sales event is that the upcoming Robert Rodriguez production Predators will also jumpstart a whole new stream of human-vs.-aliens movies. And those who gotten a look at the Predators screenplay have been raving.

These sources tell Fango that this sequel ignores Predator 2 as well as both Alien Vs. Predator movies, and is a direct sequel to the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starrer. The script, by Michael Finch, Alex Litvak and Rodriguez, not only takes place on Earth, but its human characters also travel to the Predators’ planet to hunt the extraterrestrials. We will see new species—including Predator dogs!—and there’s going to be a Berserker Predator, the meanest badass of them all. And in some surprising FX news, Knb Efx’s Howard Berger and »

Jessica Alba Lays Down The Law In The First Machete Poster

5 November 2009 1:21 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

I.m excited about Machete in a way that.s almost impossible to explain to anyone who doesn.t rate Planet Terror as one of their favorite zombie movies. Scratch that, most of you haven.t even seen Planet Terror, judging from the scant handful of people who showed up for the greatness of Grindhouse. I have a feeling that Robert Rodriguez.s Machete will fare better. It doesn.t hurt that it stars, among others, Jessica Alba. In fact Alba, as Sartana, is the first Machete character to get a real teaser poster. You.d think the first one would have been of Machete, but once you look at tight-jeans, white tank top Alba ready to lay down the law, you.ll be glad she went first. He barely survives the sniper’s bullet, and is soon out for revenge on his former employers, with the reluctant assistance of his old friend Cheech Marin, who has become a priest and taken a vow of nonviolence. The first image of Jessica Alba playing Sartana in Robert Rodriguez' Machete has arrived on the web. The lads over at Coming Soon tracked down the image at the American Film Market and snapped a pic. Alba's character is an Ice (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, in case you wondered) who has made it her mission to track him...

Zach Galifianakis Eying Humpty Dumpty in Shrek Spinoff Puss in Boots

4 November 2009 10:24 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Because the world can never get enough Shrek, we've known for some time that an upcoming spinoff film, Puss in Boots, has been in the works. Now it seems like things are finally moving forward. The increasingly bankable Zach Galifianakis is currently in talks to voice Humpty Dumpty. He'll be joining Antonio Banderas as the title character, and Salma Hayek as "Kitty" (this is their post-Robert Rodriguez reunion?!). The film will cover the feline's adventures before Shrek 2. Tom Wheeler is covering the screenwriting duties, and Shrek the Third co-writer/co-director Chris Miller is directing. And if that's not enough Shrek-verse for you, don't forget that the hotly anticipated Shrek Forever After is still slated to hit on May 21, 2010. Puss will also show up in that film, which will surely make 2010 the dream year for the small subset of Antonio Banderas obsessed Furries. For a series that's rich »

Brought into attention by Coming Soon, the first look came in the form of a capture of the film's character poster which is being displayed at the American Film Market.

She will be starring opposite Danny Trejo who takes on the role of Machete in the movie which cast ensemble also consists of Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal and Lindsay Lohan.

Exclusive: Electra Avellan Talks 'Machete'

4 November 2009 6:30 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

At last night's red carpet premiere of Black Waters of Echo's Pond, we caught up with one of the film's stars, Electra Avellan (a.k.a. one half of Planet Terror's Crazy Babysitter Twins), who told us about her role in Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Machete. Based on the faux trailer in Grindhouse, Machete will again see Danny Trejo's title character unleashing hell on earth upon corrupt politicians and various other ne'er-do-wells. Find out what Avellan told us about the film after the jump. Regarding the amount of humor that will be present in Machete (as opposed to drama), Avellan remarked, "In my opinion, I'm not speaking for Robert at all, this movie is taken more seriously [than]... »

First Look: Jessica Alba in ‘Machete’

The American Film Market is going on this week in Santa Monica and a few sites are squeezing every morsel of news from the event.  Two sites nabbed a picture of a Machete one sheet featuring Jessica Alba as “Sartana.”  It just looks like Alba with a gun in her hand, but you won’t hear any complaining from me.

The rest of the posters were locked away, but the wild cast also includes Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, and Rose McGowanRobert Rodriguez shot the expanded Grindhouse trailer in August here in Austin, TX.  It’s set for distribution April 16, 2010 by Sony Pictures.

This image comes from ComingSoon.net, but it should be noted Bloody-Disgusting snapped their own version as well:

Absolutely no secret that I'm jonesing like hell to see what Robert Rodriguez has in store for us with his full-length MacHete, and one of those things in store is Jessica Alba as a ruthless manhunter. Black List Screenplay Once Upon a Time in Hell Bought by Phoenix Pictures

4 November 2009 1:15 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Ever since Sergio Leone made his pair of 'Once Upon a Time..." movies (a masterful pair of films at that) other writers and directors have cribbed the title for their own work. Jet Li gained popularity with Once Upon a Time in China. Robert Rodriguez obviously nodded to Leone with Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and Quentin Tarantino did the same with the title card and early tagline for Inglourious Basterds. ("Once Upon a Time in Occupied France...") Now Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy will be able to add their script, Once Upon a Time in Hell, to the list. After being listed on the 2009 Black List of popular unproduced screenplays, their work has been bought by Phoenix Pictures. The big question is: how has a movie not already been made with this title? The story is based on the classic revenge story by Alexandre Dumas, The Count of »
