Yah, you heard correctly. I said “Mirrors 2″. As in, a sequel to the Keifer Sutherland horror movie “Mirrors” directed by Alexandre Aja that came out in 2008 and squatted a big fat egg. The lack of a box office punch ain’t gonna stop the Powers That Be, though. The sequel, set to star Nick Stahl (”Terminator: Rise of the Machines”), William Katt, and the oh-so-lovely Emmanuelle Vaugier (below), will be going direct-to-dvd courtesy of Fox Home Entertainment, according to Styd. So what’s the plot of this one? It goes something like this: When Max, a recovering addict, takes a job as a night time security guard job at his father’s department store, he begins to see visions of a young woman in the store’s mirrors. Unsure whether his visions are side effects of his prescription sleeping pills or actual reality, he begins to look deeper into the »

This past fall saw the debut of the supernatural horror/comedy Jennifer’s Body, and with the film's Blu-ray and DVD release being only a few weeks away (December 29th), I thought it might be interesting to take a look back at some of the most successful high school horror films that have been released over the past 10 to 15 years.
Jennifer’s Body is a slick production, equipped with fresh young stars, a hip soundtrack, and, of course, strings of "clever" dialogue. And that’s the criteria I’ve chosen to adhere to when working on this top ten list. Some of the films included here aren’t necessarily my favorites, but they’ve been impactful and deserve the call-out all the same. At the risk of spoiling some of the choices, I chose 1996 as the eligibility year for the simple reason that it was the beginning of the glossy, »

When you hear “limited release Renee Zellweger movie about a proper lady in the 1950’s who picks herself up by her bootstraps,” you don’t hold out much hope. When you hear “cast of odd, bland C-stringers, including Steve Weber, Eric McCormack, Chris Noth, and Nick Stahl,” you don’t hold out much hope. And when you literally hear Zellweger’s upbraided Southern belle, Anne Deveraux, spit out endless, cutesy aphorisms within the first five minutes of the movie, like, “A man never thinks a woman is smarter than when she's listening to him,” well then, you don’t hold your lunch. Still, even though Zellweger seemingly insists on making a career out of playing characters who are just oh-so-fettered, this particular story, which has her go off on an ill-conceived road trip in search of a gentleman to take care of her and her family, after she’s found »

20th Century Fox must be under the impression that someone out there liked last summer's Mirrors, since they're making good on their threat to give us another one. And it seems that Nick Stahl will be picking up where Kiefer Sutherland left off, although I doubt he'll be pulling guns on nuns or fist-fighting demons. And if he does, I'm willing to bet he'll be lacking the gravitas of his predecessor.
Bloody-Disgusting got word that Stahl will take center stage for Mirrors 2: Max Matheson (Stahl) reluctantly takes a job as a night watchman at his father's Mayflower Department Store. When his co-workers are killed off in gruesome and horrible ways and Max begins to see a mysterious young woman in all the store's mirrors, desperate to communicate with him, he fears he's losing his mind, or that he may be the next victim.

Y'know, when you think of movies filmed in Iowa, there's pretty much only one that ever comes to mind: Field of Dreams, duh. It's really about time that something else be added to the Iowa filmography. Now Nick Stahl, Rose McGowan and Amy Smart are helping the cause, joining the cast of the supernatural love story Dylan's Wake. According to THR the film will be funded with a combination of private equity and Iowa tax credits. Stahl will play a man working at a funeral parlor and trying to unravel a 10-year-old mystery, while McGowan and Smart will presumably play some of the hot chicks in his life. All three stars somehow feel like leftovers from the 90s, but it might be interesting to see what they can do out in those cornfields. »

You know what the world needs? More supernatural love stories. No, we're not talking about the lusty adventures of Sam and Dean; we're talking horror with a heart, man. I mean, who doesn't love a little sappiness thrown in with their terror? Well, 90% of us, that's who, but flicks like these are still coming anyway.
THR reports that Nick Stahl, Rose McGowan, and Amy Smart have been cast in the supernatural love story "Dylan's Wake," directed by Omar Naim, which has begun filming in Des Moines, Iowa. Stahl plays a young man working in a funeral parlor who is trying to unravel a 10-year-old mystery. The film is being produced by Lucas Jarach, Jason Price, and Anthony Gudas and financed by private equity and Iowa tax incentives.

Nick Stahl, Rose McGowan and Amy Smart will be attending Dylan's Wake, a new supernatural romance / indie movie that's shooting in Des Moines Iowa. It's directed by Omar Naim, the Jordanian director of 2004 Robin Williams sci-fi The Final Cut.The story sees Stahl play a young man working in a funeral party who decides to fake his own death to see who would turn up to his funeral (morbid much?). Two people attend: a junkie who believes that the man was an angel who would save the junkie's life, and the man's high-school sweetheart from ten years before. This apparently sets him off to solve a "ten-year old mystery".Shooting's already underway on location. A local casting call in Iowa describing it as "Good Will Hunting meets Jacob's Ladder", while McGowan reckons on her Twitter feed that it's a really well-written indie. Fingers crossed that it lives up to that hype. »

Here's an unusual combination: Gavin Rossdale and Criminal Minds. But the two shall meet this November when the British rocker and sometime-thespian guest stars on the CBS procedural. Rossdale will play a Goth rock star who may or may not be moonlighting as — what else? — a brutal serial killer. Rossdale's previous acting work has mostly been limited to the big screen. In addition to co-starring in the 2007 Nick Stahl-Erika Christensen heist flick How to Rob a Bank, Gwen Stefani's other half has appeared in Zoolander, Constantine, and The Mayor of Sunset Strip. Nobody likes recasting roles. It confuses continuity, befuddles audiences and sometimes upsets the original actors. But there are times when such a shake-up in performers is both necessary... and even an improvement.
Take, for example, today's news that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over for Rachelle Lefevre in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," the third installment in the bloodsucking 'tween-friendly franchise. While it's still too early to call the casting an upgrade over Lefevre, it's certainly not as bad of a replacement as it could be. If nothing else, Howard is in good company -- plenty of Hollywood-folk have been in her shoes before, and many of them proved successful in their reinterpreted roles.
Don't believe me? This stroll down memory lane of five re-cast roles should be proof enough that Howard's upcoming gig might work out for the best.

Tomorrow marks the return of one of cinema’s most beloved sci-fi heroes – John Connor in Terminator Salvation, though he’ll look a little bit different to the last time we saw him in 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Now he looks a lot like Batman star Christian Bale, yet back then he was in his early 20s and resembled Sin City actor Nick Stahl and before that a pre-teen Edward Furlong was doing onscreen duty as the future human resistance fighter in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. And it’s this first incarnation of John Connor that we salute in this week’s auto spot with his Honda Xr 100 motorcycle.
John sure loves his Honda XR100, whizzing around the highways of Los Angeles on it and working on it in his garage as he listens to Guns’n’Roses with mulleted mate, Tim. That is until he’s »

Main Feature (1H 49M 6S)
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines had the unenviable task of following two of the most successful and critically acclaimed Sci-Fi films of all time. Regardless of what this had to offer it was on to a beating from the point of its conception. This is a special effects playground and was always destined for a Blu-ray release but there’s no doubt in my mind this has been timed to cash in on the expectations surrounding Terminator Salvation.
If you’ve already seen this film, and most of you will have, you’ll know that this completely fails to live up to the standards set in the first and second films in the series. For those who have somehow managed to avoid watching this film I will do my best to explain the many problems I have with this failed attempt at progressing the franchise. »
