Amy Heckerling Taking on a Romantic Comedy with Vampires

6 hours ago | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

With all the complaining and frustration I've expressed with adaptations and remakes in recent news, I'm even more disgusted by anymore projects dealing with vampires. However, a part of me is curious about ScreenDaily's recent announcement that Amy Heckerling (of Clueless) is working on a romantic comedy with vampires aptly titled Vamps, a story that focuses on two young female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality. As long as the vampires aren't glittering, emo-hipster sissies, then we should be good to go on this one. Krysten Ritter (last seen in Confessions of a Shopaholic) will be one of the vampires with additional casting underway and Parlay Films hoping to start production in March 2010 with Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films producing. I'll admit that the premise isn't all that engaging, but »

Welcome back Fandango Fanatics to another installment of You Pick the Hottest Story of the Week – the game that pulls aside five scorching hot news stories and asks you to vote on which one you think deserves to be singled out and showered with hottest-story-of-the-week praise. Here are this week's contenders: Oscar Hosts Announced – After a lengthy search in which folks like Hugh Jackman, Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. turned down the gig, actors Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin accepted the role of Oscar co-hosts for Hollywood's biggest night, which airs on March 7, 2010. The duo, who combined hosted a total of 29 SNL episodes, should give us a fabulous (and hilarious) night full of singing, dancing and statues. [Read More] 'Prince of Persia' Trailer – The...

Blu-ray Review: Night at the Museum 2

6 November 2009 3:09 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Night at the Museum 2 is exactly what a Hollywood sequel needs to be. Bigger, louder, filled with more famous faces and almost the same story as the first. It is on its way to eclipsing the success of the first and it hits Blu-ray and DVD next week.

Ben Stiller gathers his Natm cohort as they take their mix of slapstick and Scooby Doo to Washington D.C. where the Smithsonian archives are bought to life by the power of Ahkmenrah’s Tablet. Shawn Levy’s family friendly Night at the Museum grossed nearly $600m worldwide so a sequel was fairly inevitable and in these risk aversive climate the Battle of the Smithsonian needed only to rekindle the comedic chaos and broad dramatic strokes of the original to succeed.

It’s no surprise that the sequel does not stray from this path, and this is a blessing and a curse. »

Adam Shankman Talks About Picking His Oscar Hosts

4 November 2009 4:32 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Yesterday was absolutely buzzing with Oscar buzz. First, the rumor that Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. said no to the gig. Just a few hours later, the official announcement came: Next year's Oscars will be hosted by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. Entertainment Weekly then talked with Adam Shankman about the picking process. Some highlights:

Steve Martin was shocked that he was picked again. Shankman's response: "Yes, because I want the show to feel that we are continuing to build on the Oscars and I'm not trying to make the MTV Movie Awards." He was teamed with Baldwin because: "I know that they really adore and respect each other. Plus, I know that they'll be hilarious. I wanted there to be extra comedy in the show. It will keep it high entertainment." There was a plan to have two hosts right from the get-go. On not picking Tina Fey, »

Steve Martin And Alec Baldwin Are Hosting The Oscars — Here's What We Will And Won't See

4 November 2009 11:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

So much for my hopes of seeing Larry David's signature stare-down against the masses of Hollywood at the upcoming Academy Awards. As it turns out, the Oscars have selected a host — or hosts, I should say.

The comedic duo of Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin have agreed to host the 82nd annual Academy Awards, an announcement that comes hot off the heels of denials from Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Stiller. Martin, of course, hosted the show twice before, but this will be Baldwin's first time as the show's master of ceremonies.

"The two of them have a fantastic, ongoing comic relationship," said Oscar co-producer Adam Shankman in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "And I know that they really adore and respect each other. Plus, I know that they’ll be hilarious."

If you're curious about how Baldwin and Martin will play off of one another in the upcoming award ceremony, »

Martin & Baldwin To Host Oscars (Find Out Who Almost Did!)

4 November 2009 10:57 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Last week we reported on the fact that the all-singing, all-dancing host of the 2009 Oscars, Hugh Jackman had turned down the opportunity to return in 2010 because he didn’t want to host two years in a row. At the same time, there was a rumor flying around that Neil Patrick Harris was going to be picking up the reigns, after doing such a great job at the Emmys in September. Although not my first choice for an Oscar host (I still maintain George Clooney is the perfect choice), Nph would have been a fine runner-up, Imo.

However, as happens a lot with these pesky little things we call rumors, Nph hasn’t gotten the gig. So who has? Well, I’m glad you asked – none other than Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. That’s right, the Academy has decided to double-up this year and bring on a comedic acting duo. »

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to Host the Oscars… Together!

4 November 2009 6:40 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Well this is a pleasant surprise. It came out a week or two ago that Hugh Jackman would not be returning to host the Academy Awards this year, and also that Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. were offered the gig but apparently turned it down [1]. Yesterday it was announced that the Oscars would, however, still have two hosts after all as both Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin have agreed to come together to do the honours. What a great idea. Steve Martin previously hosted the Oscars back in 2001 and 2003 and, from what I remember, he did a great job. A lot of people have wanted to see him back, and with the addition of Alec Baldwin (his first time hosting) I think a lot of people will be very happy. "I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin," Martin said. Baldwin responded: "I don't play »

Oscar talk: Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to host the Oscars

Two Oscar news of different levels of importance caught everyone's attention: The new Oscar hosts and Danny Boyle's problem with his Slumdog Millionaire child actors. I'll deal with the hosts here... - - -

- - - While I'd love to see Hugh Jackman do it again and it would have been cool to see Ben Stiller and Robert Downey, Jr team up and do some hilarious antics on the stage, but it seems they're not in the mood to host the Oscars. When it was announced that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin would host the upcoming Awards show, then that's also fine with me. Steve Martin is cool and he can really make the Oscar awards night lively and fun, while Baldwin can take care of the more serious side. Of course, they're together in It's Complicated with Meryl Streep, who could have been a host too, but. »

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to Host Oscars

4 November 2009 12:25 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Hugh Jackman, just a few days ago, refused a repeat performance as Oscar host. Yesterday, Cinema Blend reported that Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. had also been offered the job, but turned it down.

The report closed on a positive note, citing that at least the choice indicated a push towards a younger, hipper direction. In retrospect, this statement is as funny as it is wrong. Why? Because the Academy announced a short time later that its choices for next year's hosts are ... Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

Scratch your head. Raise a furrowed brow. Begin discussions of all the odd-couple pairings in TV and movie history. Producer Bill Mechanic had this to say about the selections, made with co-producer Adam Shankman:

Adam and I, from our first meeting on, knew we wanted an emphasis on comedy. If we err in any one direction, we want to take »

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin Land Oscar Gig

3 November 2009 7:02 PM, PST | movies.about.com | See recent movies.about.com news »

Last year's host, Sexiest Man Alive Hugh Jackman, declined to handle the tough and time-consuming job of hosting the Academy Awards two years running, and Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr also passed on the gig, so naturally the Oscar producers asked Steve Martin and Oscar nominee Alec Baldwin (The Cooler) to team up to tackle Mc'ing duties. Martin and Baldwin will serve as co-hosts of the 82nd Academy Awards to be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. And while Baldwin's an Oscar hosting rookie, Martin's already performed the job twice previously, hosting the 73rd and 75th Academy Awards shows.

In a press release from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Oscar producers Adam Shankman (Hairspray) and Bill Mechanic stated, "We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars. Steve will bring the experience of having »
