So you’ve unwrapped all of your Christmas presents, received three copies of District 9 from multiple uncommunicative family members, and the year of 2009 is about to be wrapped up. The debate is over: 2009 has been a great year for film. So what do you do now?
Why, start thinking about what’s around the corner, of course!
While there’s less in the way of interesting sci-fi, as 2009 will surely be remembered for, 2010 has plenty of interesting new films in store, as well as some remakes, reboots and sequels. Here’s a list of the 15 most anticipated films of 2010, in order of release, followed by a minefield of movies you might consider avoiding.
The Wolfman (February 12)

Opens: July 2nd 2010
Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.
Analysis: Its been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan who started it as a household name with labels of a moodern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".
Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit cartoon series »

'Twas the day before the night before Christmas, and all through the town ... oh, never mind. I'm lousy at those kinds of parodies. What I'm trying to say is that Austin has a rather surprising quantity of film news this week. Let's see what we've got for today:
Fantastic Fest 2010 is now accepting submissions for short and feature films. Let's get lots of local films in the running (and hopefully in the lineup)!Next year The Domain will open a gift that keeps on giving -- a new movie theater. The La Times has a story about the upscale Gold Class Cinema chain, which has only a few locations so far. Will Austinites shell out nearly $30 for a first-run movie ticket plus extra cash for fancy food, or will we stick with lower prices and food options at local Alamo Drafthouse theaters? Maybe the new theater will attract Domain regulars as opposed to film geeks. »

The first teaster poster for Predators, directed by Nimrod Antal, is out and it's tiny and fairly non-descript. You can check it out below, courtesy of Aullidos.com, but let's be honest, it's pretty boring. What is interesting, though, are our recent interviews with Predators star Danny Trejo and producer Robert Rodriguez, so make sure to check them out here and here. Source: Aullidos.com »

Spanish website Aullidos posted the following image that they claim is the forthcoming international teaser poster for Predators, 20th Century Fox's latest entry in the franchise arriving in theaters July 9, 2010. Personally, I think it looks like a hack Photoshop job, so I'd take this with a serious grain of salt until confirmed. Directed by Nimrod Antal and starring Topher Grace, Adrien Brody, Walton Goggins, Laurence Fishburne, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walt Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Louiz Ozawa and Derek Mears, in this version, a group of humans will find themselves stranded on a planet home to Predators and must survive the horrors they encounter. »

The man who once played Cowboy Curtis on Pee-wee’s Playhouse will join the cast of Nimrod Antal’s Predators.
Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) will play a character named Roland. No other details or known.
Fishburne joins Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Walt Goggins, Danny Trejo and Oleg Taktarov.
In November, Antal revealed that the new Predators will maintain some parts of the original movies: “…we are trying to stay with the original as far as the monster and the atmosphere and the tone of the film, but we are trying to do something new and contemporary and feels fresh,” he says.
Predators arrives in theaters on July 9, 2010. »

It’s been a long time coming for Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo’s Machete, first glimpsed as a faux trailer in movie double-whammy Grindhouse. But only know, mere months before its Stateside release in April, are we learning just how far back Rodriguez’s plans for a Trejo-starring mash-up stretch. Speaking to IGN during a Predators set visit, Trejo revealed that Machete is actually very much a child of the ‘90s. “Everybody thinks that Machete came out of a trailer, but it didn't,” Trejo...

From extremely humble beginnings, Machete may turn into a franchise for Danny Trejo and co-director/producer/creator Robert Rodriguez. The first feature-length film will be released next April, apparently, and already there is talk of not just one but two sequels.
"Well, Robert had been training me...god, that sounds really silly...for Machete since we did Desperado, Trejo says in a new article at MovieWeb. Everybody thinks that Machete came out of a trailer, but it didn't," explained Trejo. "Robert told me that he wanted to do this movie called Machete when we were doing Desperado."
"It is a culmination of Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and there's even a little bit of From Dusk Till Dawn in there. I think it's going to be one of his (Rodriguez') best and I'm not just saying that because I'm the lead, it's just a great movie."

Collider recently spoke with director Robert Rodriguez, as well as his regular cast member Danny Trejo, on the set of Predators, where they were asked about the different projects Rodriguez has in the pipeline. The main ones talked about were the two of most interest to fans right now - Sin City 2 and Machete. But if you’re interested, there’s also some stuff in there about another Spy Kids movie.
With the amount of vagueness (”It’s happening… maybe… at some point!”) surrounding the much-anticipated Sin City 2, it’s almost gotten to the point where no matter what Rodriguez or anyone else says, it’s hard to believe it’s ever going to happen. Despite that, earlier this year we reported that Sin City 2 was moving forward, with Rodriguez apparently having spoke with “key players” involved. We even got a “semi-confirmation” from exec producer, »

Many people think that the idea behind making Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Machete came from its inclusion as a faux-trailer in the Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse. However, Danny Trejo told ComingSoon that in fact the movie evolved from many years of planning.
Everybody thinks that Machete came out of a trailer, but it didn't. Robert told me he wanted to do this movie called Machete when we were doing Desperado and that if you look at the character in Machete, he kind of molded this character Machete ... Machete kicks a**. [laughs] It is a culmination of Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico ... I think there's even a little bit of From Dusk Till Dawn in there.
I think it's going to be one of his best. I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm the lead in it, but it's just a great movie. I think everybody's going to »

Recently LatinoReview got to visit the set of "Predators," which actor Danny Trejo is in and spoke to the site about his first lead role in "Machete," the faux trailer from "Grindhouse." The film is being co-directed by Robert Rodriguez with protege Ethan Maniquis.
The film follows the highly skilled Federale Machete who is hired by some unsavory types to assassinate a senator. But just as he's about to take the shot, he notices someone aiming at him and realizes he's been set up. He barely survives the sniper's bullet, and is soon out for revenge on his former employers, with the reluctant assistance of his old friend (Marin), who has become a priest and taken a vow of nonviolence.
Here is what he had to say about his upcoming film "Machete":
Robert put together such a great cast. What’s it like working with Robert De Niro, and then Steven Seagal, »

This story will eventually get along to news of a potential original film from Robert Rodriguez but first of all, we need to tidy up a lot of loose ends regarding his ever mounting pile of in-the-works sequels. He's a franchisomaniac. All of this info comes from the fact that a number of online press were last week invited down to the set of Predators and they duly squeezed Rodriguez for all they could. We'll take it one franchise at a time. Here's the man on future Machete movies: We always talked about making him a franchise character. Danny and I talked about it in ‘94…maybe Desperado that’s when I first mentioned the Machete character. So imagine that…he’s been bugging me since ‘94. Add into the mix a bit of light, hype-building and pot-stirring by Machete himself, Danny Trejo: We want Machete, Machete Kills, and Machete Kills Again. »

Remember that fake MacHete trailer Robert Rodriguez directed for Grindhouse? Well, it's now a feature film. While I was on the set visit for the upcoming Predators movie in Austin, TX, Machete himself, Danny Trejo appeared on the set. Even though he wasn't filming that day, he took some time out to chat with all of us. I can't reveal anything he said about his role in Predators, but I am now allowed to pass on the MacHete deets. Like the fact that, if you run into him at the grocery »

During a set visit to the new film Predators directed by Nimrod Antal and currently filming at Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas, Bloody-Disgusting had the chance to catch up with Robert Rodriguez (who is producing the film) and Danny Trejo (one of the stars) to ask them about their upcoming film MacHete, which is being released next April. Trejo gave us a little more background on the project, which actually was an idea Rodriguez had back in the early days of their collaboration. "Everybody thinks that 'Machete' came out of a trailer, but it didnt," said Trejo. "Robert told me that he wanted to do this movie called 'Machete' when we were doing 'Desperado'." The actor also hinted that the film might possibly have a few similarities to Rodriguez's 'From Dusk 'Til Dawn', although whether that means we'll see anything more horror-related in 'Machete' remains to be seen. »

Last week I spent a day at Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios loitering around the parking lot, interviewing some actors on that lot, and raiding the catering van for cookies. You can probably guess it was a set visit for Predators, but I'm bound and gagged like The Gimp from spilling anything about that for the time being. However, I can blather all I want about tidbits from everything not involving "Predators versus No-Longer-Larry Fishburne" (yep, Fishburne is in the film as a character named Noland... I can say that. I know. What an incredibly -- not very interesting -- piece of "news").
First, both Rodriguez and Troublemaker Studios co-owner Elizabeth Avellan confirmed Spy Kids 4 is a go. However, they're jettisoning the original actors and rebooting the franchise because those kids are total geezers by now. So, expect the 12-year-old fanboys of the world to start foaming and ranting »

I'm a bit perplexed that we don't talk about Rodriquez more on these pages. Just a bit. He certainly has given us his fair share of entertaining films over the years.
A number of journalists in the Austin area were invited onto the set of Predators and LatinoReview sat down with the director and was able to at least solicit some answers about some other upcoming projects of his including Machete, a Spy Kids reboot and Sin City 2, "...I think it's built up so much, like are we really going to satisfy everybody with what we have, should we add to it. It's the thing we've always talked about but now two years later going on three we'd probably make some adjustments but nothing that would take a long time. Its just a matter of...Once we start...we can go into production...we can already start and in pre »

The other day I got to talk with Danny Trejo on the set of Predators along with a number of other online journalists. While we are embargoed from talking about Predators, we’re allowed to cover other projects.
As most of you know, Danny recently shot Machete with director Robert Rodriguez. The film is based on the trailer that was featured in Grindhouse and it’s loaded with an all star cast like Robert De Niro, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Don Johnson, and Rose McGowan.
So when we talked to him about Machete, he talked about what it was like to work with such an all star cast and he confirmed the rumors that it might be getting released this April. Also, when we asked him if Machete was a one off or did he think there could be sequels, Trejo replied, “we want Machete, Machete Kills, »

Ever since directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez released their experimental tribute to exploitation films entitled, Grindhouse in 2007, which featured "fake trailers," fans have been desperately waiting for a full-length version of Rodriguez's Machete trailer. The movie features an extremely intriguing and talented cast that in addition to Trejo includes, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jessica Alba, Rose McGowan, Robert De Niro, Steven Segal, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson and Tom Savini.
