If you're anything like me, you'll be spending the better part of the next four or five months of your life playing all the different variations available on the new watershed video game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." The sequel to the wildly successful "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" (which pulled the military shooter series from historical skirmishes to the current day conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan), "Modern Warfare 2" has not only established itself as the best of a great set of titles but also immediately enters the discussion of the greatest video games of all time, right alongside "Super Mario Bros.," "Halo," "Grand Theft Auto III" and "Madden '95." (For the complete take on "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," check out Multiplayer editor Russ Frushtick's in-depth review.)

As I write this, I’m listening to an eclectic mix of Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam, The Foofighters and David Sanborn all of which are being pumped through randomly via my Zune. Just a few years ago, I would have been concerned about receiving a legal notice in the mail or the FBI breaking down my door for illegally downloading a three and a half minute song, but thanks to Amazon, iTunes and the Zune Store, I can listen to anything artist I want legally for a small fee.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) are always touting how their products are on the cutting edge of technology. Musicians now sing and perform in Dolby Surround sound and High Definition while movies like the upcoming A Christmas Carol and Avatar use motion-capture and state-of-the-art 3D technology to enhance our theater experience. »

Infinity Ward has released a new trailer for their upcoming game “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″ titled “Infamy”. I love the music, and wonder if it’s one of Hans Zimmer’s, the movie composer responsible for gems like “Gladiator” and a ton of other memorable soundtracks. Zimmer was hired for MW2, but I don’t know if the trailer music is also his. Whoever did it, it rocks. And the gameplay they show ain’t bad, either. (Boating?) MW2 lands in store shelves November 10th. Of course, if you were a real fan of the game, you would have pre-ordered your copy from Amazon, got the Prime service, and will have it shipped to you before November 10th so you could have it exactly on November 10th, all without ever having left your apartment, home, or basement. Which would make you kind of a shut-in, but, um, don’t tell anyone. »

Since Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi film, Inception, premiered its teaser trailer in August, news and footage from the film have been rolling out steadily.
Today, we got word that Inception would receive a dual release in both standard 35mm and in IMAX. Check out the full text of the press release from the IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. below for the details and our thoughts.
IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that Inception, directed by Christopher Nolan (”The Dark Knight”) and starring multiple Oscar(R) nominee Leonardo DiCaprio (”Blood Diamond,” “The Aviator”), will be released to IMAX(R) theatres simultaneously with the film’s wide release in conventional theatres on July 16, 2010. The film marks the third IMAX project for Christopher Nolan, following the record-breaking IMAX release of “The Dark Knight,” which grossed more than $65 million at IMAX theatres. Even if Christopher Nolan’s upcoming mystery flick Inception has had its first teaser trailer released, it still feels like we don’t know what the film is really about. Little tidbits of info about the diverse cast’s roles (Leonardo DiCaprio plays a, “CEO type,” for example) have been released, along with the much-repeated cryptic teaser line that the film is “a contemporary sci-fi thriller set within the architecture of the mind.” Then came photos from the set of the movie, and heck even the (probable) plot was revealed last month.
But something about Inception still seems shrouded in mystery…
Adding to the set photos we have already, today we have three videos straight from the set of Inception. As you’ll see in one of the videos below, apparently in Inception’s world, (freight) trains don’t needs tracks to run on. The other two show some off-screen »

Reed’s Bargain Bin [1] is a recurring column where Reed Farrington tells us about a movie he bought for under $5, and whether or not he regrets the purchase. Even though Film Junk followers would probably prefer to read current Tiff film reviews than a review of an older science fiction film, I have decided to submit this review of “Babylon A.D.” And at the risk of further enforcing the view that I have a poor taste in films, my review is generally a favorable one in contrast to popular opinion. I was aware that this film did poorly at the box office, but I didn’t realize how many bad reviews this film received until after I had watched the film and checked out the reviews on the Internet. The reason why I watched this film is that I try to watch all the high profile science fiction movies regardless of audience reception. »

This week we’ve delving into the dusty depths of our music collections to muse on how movies have affected them. Music is an integral and downright essential ingredient in the cinematic recipe, whether it be a haunting score or a pulsing soundtrack crammed full of recognizable chart-toppers, and as such we’re doffing our cap to these tuneful treasures by asking everyone at Team Boxwish: “Have you ever been inspired by a movie to buy an artist’s music?”
Tim: “Definitely, I’m a soundtrack obsessive. I became a big fan of Hans Zimmer because of his tracks on Gladiator and Black Hawk Down, and the whole soundtrack he did for The Last Samurai was amazing. I got introduced to Eddie Vedder because of Into the Wild (I was online buying the soundtrack before I’d even finished watching the movie!) Last, but certainly not least, I know I »

Film and TV is a unique medium in that it is usually comprised of a combination of disciplines: Literature, photography, design, theater and music, just to name a few. All these aspects work in tandem in service to the larger picture to provide an all-encompassing artistic experience.
Music, like any other artform has a tendency from time to time re-invent itself. Constantly challenging what has come before, and discovering new means of expression. Often, we can tell the period from which a piece has been composed simply by its stylistic choices: the jazzy '60s, the disco '70s, the techno '80s... and so on.
Film music has always had an important part in the overall emotional impact of a movie. Whether it takes the back seat in providing an aural landscape, or front and centre with sweeping musical themes. Some may argue that music, when it services the film correctly, »

Hans Zimmer, the Oscar-winning composer who has provided the music for such widely divergent films as The Dark Knight and Driving Miss Daisy, will contribute his first video game score for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The new Call of Duty game follows up to the first Modern Warfare, which was one of the best-selling games of 2008, and the more recent World at War. The sequel (if that's the right word), will be out this November. Expect big things. »

While I was shopping around CDbaby, I came across the music of Flatland, an animated feature starring triangles, squares and circles. Further investigation about this music lead me to its composer, Kazimir Boyle who had some interesting project on his résumé. After a string of projects on which he worked at Hans Zimmer's Remote Control Productions (Hannibal, Spirit), Boyle had now set up his own company named Flash Music LLC. where he produces music that's as colourful and imaginative as the delightful Flatland score.
What made you fascinated with music when you were a child?
Like many children, I started with music in the school band. I chose the trumpet but the band director assigned me the trombone. I was fascinated that I could play louder than anyone else.
Do you have any distinctive memories about film music?

While the world waits for The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan to begin work on the next Batman movie, he's been busy on a film project called Inception, which is due for release on July 16 next year.
Very little is known about the film, apart from its description as a "contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind."
Inception is an original idea by Nolan (pictured), not a remake or adaptation of any pre-existing project. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger and Michael Caine.
Filming took place in various locations across the world, including the library of University College London last month.
A teaser trailer was attached to Quentin Tarantino's new release Inglourious Basterds. That teaser, with a brilliantly ominous musical score by Hans Zimmer, is included here and looks fantastically moody and mysterious. Check it out below. »

Warner Bros has released the official teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception. The 58-second video is currently playing in theaters with some prints of Inglourious Basterds.
As far as teasers go this one is pretty perfect. It psyches up audiences for the film without giving anything about the secretive project away. The only confirmed plot description is the contemporary sci-fi thriller is set within the “architecture of the mind.” There have been rumors of a blackmail scandal, but the details aren’t available yet. The film is still shooting and set pictures were snapped last week in Paris.
Leonardo DiCaprio stars as a “CEO type” and his wife is played by Marion Cotillard. Ellen Page is his assistant, Joseph-Gordon Levitt an employee, and Ken Watanabe his rival. Cillian Murphy and Michael Caine also play supporting roles. Hans Zimmer is creating the musical score for the July 16, 2010 release.

The teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception is now online. It doesn’t reveal much although we do see people fighting on the walls and ceilings of a hallway, and the music also sounds like something we’d hear from The Dark Knight. I’ll guess Hans Zimmer is behind it. Watch the teaser below! The film stars Leonardo [...] »

After showing in theaters this weekend in front of Inglourious Basterds, Warner Brothers has debuted the official teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's Inception online today. Although its not long, clocking in at just under a minute, it is still an awesome teaser, especially for a project we've known nothing about until now. This hasn't even finished shooting yet either, they're still working in Paris, which makes it even more exciting to see. Plus it's Christopher Nolan, one of my favorite directors, I'm expecting another brilliant movie. Even the bit of Hans Zimmer's score we hear in this sounds badass. Can't wait for next summer! The first ever teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s secretive sci-fi/thriller, Inception, is supposed to premiere tomorrow attached to some prints of Inglourious Basterds. Word is that it won’t appear online then (perhaps not even until next week), unlike the new Avatar trailer that debuted online today, - a day before it was supposed to show up in theaters.
However, to tide us over until the Inception teaser appears, we have some new info that gives us some more insight into the mysterious movie: a description of the trailer, the names of the characters and a possible plot synopsis that expands on the tagline of “a contemporary sci-fi thriller set within the architecture of the mind,” which is all we’ve had to go on so far.
Like the shooting details we reported on last month, the teaser trailer description for Inception comes to us from a report on IMDb, »

"Slumdog Millionaire" isn't finished with its awards collection. Having won many prestigious awards including eight Oscars and four Golden Globes, the Danny Boyle-directed movie is now up for more kudos as World Soundtrack Academy announced on Tuesday, August 18, that it is among the nominees for the 9th World Soundtrack Awards.
From the awards which recognizes art of film music, the rag-to-riches drama collects three nods for composer A. R. Rahman. One is for the category of Best Original Score of the Year in which it will compete with "Burn After Reading" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" among others. The other two are for a single category, that is Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film.
While it collects the most number of nods for the awards held annually in Ghent, Belgium, "Slumdog" misses out on placing A. R. Rahman on the list of Film Composer of the Year. »

Here at Screen Rant we’ve done some extensive coverage of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming secretive sci-fi thriller, Inception. It’s been said many times before but we really don’t know all that much about it, with only some character descriptions, some thin location info (mostly unconfirmed) and the line, “A contemporary sci-fi thriller set within the architecture of the mind,” to really go on.
However, today, thanks to Coming Soon, we have our first proper look at Inception via the first images from the film’s set. They mainly consist of DiCaprio’s “CEO type” character, which is not surprising considering he’s the lead. Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard are also featured in some of the images with DiCaprio, in the midst of what looks like a pretty intense scene on a bridge. Take a look for yourself at a few of the images:
