Stan Lee's Birthday, War Machine, And 'Avatar' In Today's Twitter Report

2 hours ago | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Today marks the birthday of a comics icon, and the Twitter Report joins Christos Gage, Brian Michael Bendis, Tony Lee and most of this column's follow list in wishing the Marvel Universe's lead architect a hearty excelsior as he celebrates. Birthday boy Stan Lee, meanwhile, closed his daily Twitter meditations Sunday with the realization that his leadership role on a private island country he's planning may produce conflicts of interest with his mayorship in "Marvel Super Hero Squad."

In other tweets, Kevin Smith was blown away by the new "Iron Man 2" trailer and relayed his War Machine thoughts to Jon Favreau. Check those posts out after the jump along with Jock's Batwoman and Judge Dredd-related tasks, Simon Pegg on video games and fatherhood and another "Avatar" reaction.

It's all in the Twitter Report for December 28, 2009.

Cop Out and Crazy trailers go cyber

13 hours ago | TotalFilm | See recent TotalFilm news »

Yes, 2009 is gasping its dying breath, and another year waits in the wings to take its place. But what can we expect from 2010? Well, the studios aren’t resting on their laurels when it comes to trailer teasing us to death. Both Warner Bros and Freestyle Films have released trailers for two of their big post-noughties projects – Kevin Smith’s retitled Cop Out and Tim Allen’s cinematic directorial debut Crazy on the Outside. First up, Cop Out stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as those ‘couple of...

See Kevin Smith's Cop Out Trailer

17 hours ago | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

From A Couple of Dicks to the finalized name of appropriately titled Cop Out, Kevin Smith's latest has made its first footage debut and hardly resembles a Kevin Smith film at all.

Keeping in mind Smith did not write Cop Out, the buddy cop film chasing a rare stolen baseball card looks like a cross between comedy and drama with Tracy Morgan running his mouth while Bruce Willis chimes in with well-timed one liners. The trailer gives the best moments to Seann William Scott but I suspect, and hope, the money jokes weren't suitable for wide release. Otherwise based on this footage, Cop Out might end up a crap out.

Look for Cop Out in theaters on February 26.

Kevin Smith’s ‘Cop Out’ Trailer, Title Explanation

27 December 2009 11:11 AM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Warner Bros has released a trailer for Kevin Smith’s latest film, Cop Out.  While the writer/director usually whips up his own foul-mouthed screenplays and casts his friends (for mixed results), Smith’s latest was written by someone else and stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan.

Here’s the trailer (also viewable in high-resolution at Apple) and below is the explanation of why it has a generic buddy cop movie title.

The repeat game and knock knock jokes?

The February 2010 movie was originally titled A Couple of Dicks, a clever double entendre on two detectives and a pair of male genitals.  Not surprisingly, the studio wasn’t thrilled with the name.  The movie was shot under the original title from the script by Mark and Robb Cullen, but a name change discussion was inevitable after the problems Smith had selling Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

Kevin Smith's 'Cop Out' trailer: what do you think?

By now you've read all about the title change for Kevin Smith's new movie. But have you seen the trailer? Here it is, embedded below. Looks pretty hilarious to me (just the sight of Tracy Morgan stuffing those tortilla chips in his mouth had me laughing.) What do you think? Kevin Smith on Cop Out Title Change

27 December 2009 8:35 AM, PST | movies.about.com | See recent movies.about.com news »

So, Kevin Smith's no stranger to controversial film titles. His Zack and Miri Make a Porno caused a stir, though the title made perfect sense and explained exactly what the film was about. It's not like he threw the word 'porno' in there to help sell the film. If anything, the use of 'porno' in the title kept some outlets from promoting the film. Silly, but true.

Hot off the porno mini-uproar, Smith's set to launch another comedy in theaters - but not with the original title intact. Smith, at the urging of Warner Bros, changed the title of the cop comedy (which he didn't write) from A Couple of Dicks (as in detectives) to Cop Out. Both titles are cute plays on words, but one is eye-catching while the other kind of reminds me of something Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito would sign up to star in. Read On. »

Right now on Cinematical

27 December 2009 5:32 AM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

The folks at our sister site Cinematical are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:

Around this time of year, it's always good to get the kids out of the house. But is taking them to go see Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel a worthwhile family adventure? If chipmunks aren't up your alley, Cinematical talks about the best family films of the decade. I love going to see a movie over the holidays, but this year I'm in the Outer banks with the family and the local movie theater has actually closed for the season. So while I would really like to see Sherlock Holmes, I can't. I can, however, read Cinematical's Sherlock Holmes review here. We have been watching a lot of DVDs though, »

This Week in Trailers: The Good, The Bad, and Sarah Jessica Parker

27 December 2009 3:36 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Maybe it's the holidays, but this was the biggest week for trailers in a long, long time. It's not just the sheer number, although that, too, is a consideration, but there were also a lot of big ticket items that were unveiled this week. We have two trailers for Kick-Ass, swiftly moving to the top of 2010's must-see list, plus films with actual movie stars, although 2009 provided strong evidence that they weren't all that necessary.

Of course, the law of averages tells us we're bound to have a bad trailer in the mix as well, so welcome to the Kevin Smith buddy picture Cop Out with Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis, which has all the markings of a giant disappointment. Also, Sex and the City 2 looks like shit. Conversely, the Karate Kid actually looks pretty decent, so you never can tell.

Kevin Smith Explains Why A Couple of Dicks Became Cop Out

26 December 2009 2:51 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Two weeks ago, word spread that Kevin Smith's buddy-cop homage A Couple of Dicks, starring Bruce Willis and Tracey Morgan, was getting a new title. The new title, Cop Out, is much tamer and less memorable than its predecessor, much to Smith's chagrin. Smith explained to EW the pain he endured in having to change the title.

Look, losing A Couple of Dicks was almost akin to losing my own d**k. It was a perfect buddy-cop movie comedy title. Everyone knew it. You couldn't say that title to somebody without a f**king smile crossing their face. But what I had gone through with Zack and Miri Make a Porno — "porno" had become very problematic, it became tough for us to advertise [the movie], blah blah blah. Warner Bros. decided, "Hey man, we'll call the networks and see if we're going to get any problems [with A Couple of Dicks as a title], months before the movie's ever going to come out. »

A Look at Kevin Smith’s Green Hornet Film-Turned-Comic

25 December 2009 6:14 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Below the break you can see four alternative covers for the first issue of Kevin Smith's new Green Hornet comics. He has adapted his unproduced Green Hornet movie screenplay into a ten chapter miniseries, illustrated by Jonathan Lau. The series has reportedly been fully completed before even the first issue hits the shops, so we at least won't get some caught in some sort of Cerebus/Big Numbers/Kick-Ass quicksand waiting for each installment. Peter reported on the series back in May, even before an artist had been appointed. At that time, Smith gave a statement on how faithfully the comics would follow his screenplay: It’s not a straight-up adaptation of the Green Hornet movie script I wrote some years back, it’s definitely gonna take its cues from that script - just as that script took its cues from all the source material available (radio, TV, comics »

Cop Out – Trailer

Cop Out

Directed by: Kevin Smith

Starring: Tracy Morgan, Bruce Willis, Adam Brody, Seann William Scott

Rating: R

Release Date: February 6, 2010

Trailer Score: 3/10

My Thoughts: Ouch. I don’t slight Kevin Smith for making a truly “Hollywood” movie. Eventually he was going to step away from his own scripts and attempt to show himself as a director capable of handling other material. But this is the result? Obviously I haven’t seen the movie yet, but this laughless trailer has me worried. Sure there will be more cussing and raunchy humor (with Smith it’s guaranteed), but the staleness of the material in this preview has me concerned that even Smith’s staple humor style will be disappointing.

I should probably watch “30 Rock” like people tell me. I don’t think Tracy Morgan has been funny except on SNL, and he doesn’t make his case any better here. His »

Trailer for Kevin Smith's 'Cop Out' looks lame

24 December 2009 5:03 PM, PST | screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news »

Kevin Smith has a new action comedy coming out soon, and right now, it looks like crap. The film is titled "Cop Out," and it stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. You can check out the preview after the jump.

The film was originally called "A Couple of Dicks," but Warner Bros. thought the title was just too vulgar or something. In fact, Smith recently said he did not have much control over the film anyway.

Maybe that's why it looks lame. It follows two cops (Willis and Morgan) whose adventures include locating a stolen baseball card, rescuing a woman, and dealing with gangsters and their laundered money. »

Why Kevin Smith Changed Title Of His Movie

24 December 2009 12:20 PM, PST | Studio Briefing - Film News | See recent Studio Briefing - Film News news »

Kevin Smith agreed to change the title of his latest movie to Cop Out, after learning that his previous title, A Couple of Dicks, would face the same sort of rejection by TV and newspaper outlets that Zack and Miri Make a Porno, his last movie, did, Smith told Entertainment Weekly. The word "porno" in that title became "very problematic," he said. "It became tough for us to advertise [the film], blah blah blah. Warner Bros. decided, 'Hey man, we'll call the networks and see if we're going to get any problems [with A Couple of Dicks as a title], months before the movie's ever going to come out.'' The top 3 networks -- CBS, ABC, NBC -- said, "We can't run one of your spots before 9 o'clock." Still, Smith said he asked the studio execs, since the movie is R-rated anyway, why not simply run the film after 9:00. "Warner Bros's feeling was like ... 'We have to advertise to the sports audience on Saturday and Sunday and all those sporting events usually take place before 9 p.m. in the evening.' At which point, I was like, 'Oh wow, you guys are way smarter than me.'" »

Kevin Smith’s Cop Out Trailer Lacks the Jason Mewes Factor

24 December 2009 11:05 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Kevin Smith takes on the cop genre in “Cop Out”, a film that used to be funnier when it was going under the title of “A Couple of Dicks”, though honestly neither Bruce Willis or Tracy Morgan’s character really comes across as dicks in the movie, and since they’re cops, they don’t qualify as private detectives aka private dicks. So I guess the original title never really made much sense. Then again, it would still be a tad funnier, though this trailer ain’t bad. I wasn’t exactly Lol’ing, as the kids would say, but I had a couple of chuckles or two. Kevin Smith Explains the Cop Out Title Switch

24 December 2009 9:23 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Yesterday we gave you the first trailer for Kevin Smith's new film - with the brand new title - Cop Out, which was formerly titled A Couple of Dicks. Entertainment Weekly got to chat with Smith about the controversial title and explained why it needed to be changed.Warner Bros. decided, "Hey man, we'll call the networks and see if we're going to get any problems [with A Couple of Dicks as a title], months before the movie's ever going to come out." The top 3 networks - CBS, ABC, NBC - said we can't run one of your spots before 9 o'clock. I'm like, "Well what about Inglourious Basterds?" And I guess, because of the spelling, they got away with it. So we were like, "Can we call it A Couple of D.I.C.s?" Because that's the proper acronym for detectives, Detective In Charge. And [the networks] kicked that back as well. It was the pluralizing of any form of dick, »

Kevin Smith’s Cop Out Trailer Starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan

24 December 2009 8:55 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

We've got one more trailer to squeeze in before Christmas, and I think it's one a lot of people have been waiting to see: Kevin Smith's latest comedy Cop Out (formerly known as A Couple of Dicks)! This is the first time Kevin Smith has directed from someone else's script, and lucky for him, the script by Robb Cullen and Mark Cullen was on the 2008 Black List of best unproduced screenplays. He also has a pretty awesome cast in Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan and Seann William Scott. So does it look like Cop Out is going to be one of the best comedies of 2009? Well... uh, I'm not so sure about that. I have to be honest, the trailer didn't really do much for me. I thought the intro was kind of clever, but other than that, there wasn't really much here that made me laugh. I do think »

Kevin Smith Explains How he Managed to Cop Out on the Name of his Next Movie

24 December 2009 8:12 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

With the trailer for his buddy cop movie starring Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis just having hit the Internet, director Kevin Smith railed in his signature, profanity-heavy style to Entertainment Weekly’s Hollywood Insider blog on just why he agreed to Cop Out on the flick’s original title, A Couple of Dicks.

It was already fairly well known that the big three TV networks balked at the original title because they wouldn’t be able to air commercials before 9 p.m. (yes, really), but hearing him describe the situation can still bring a smile to the face of anyone who loves their language more than a little salty. Here’s a taste of what he told EW:

Smith: Look, losing A Couple of Dicks was almost akin to losing my own dick. It was a perfect buddy-cop movie comedy title. Everyone knew it. You couldn’t say that title »
