#1 James Cameron to redo “The Fantastic Voyage”
Now don’t be getting too excited because there’s no news that Cameron will direct the project but Variety does report that Cameron is producing the film and from what I can gather, the project (and a few more to follow) is an effort to make use and money from the expensive technology he spent years prepping for Avatar. It’s a great opportunity to remake this sci-fi classic but with “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem” writer Shane Salerno on board to adapt the original story, I can’t say I’m all that excited.
#2 Natalie Portman starring in “Pride Prejudice and Zombies”
This seems like an odd pairing but Portman does have the looks for period drama though I’m not sure what possessed her to agree to a period piece about a man searching for love amidst a zombie outbreak. Portman »

James Cameron is on a pretty fantastic voyage of his own right now. Avatar will open in theaters in six days, and the early buzz suggests it will be a box office winner. That's leading to a lot of speculation about just what the uber-director will do next, film-wise. Earlier this week, there was a tweet at Production Weekly that caused an immediate stir: "James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an 'event' film set in the future."
Initially, it was chalked up to Doomsday Protocol, a pitch Salerno sold to Fox last year described as The Seven Samurai in space. However, MTV recently spoke to James Cameron at the London premiere of Avatar, and according to Cameron and producer Jon Landau, the project is something entirely different.
It appears the Cameron-Salerno collaboration is going to be a 3-D remake of Fantastic Voyage, »

A Tweet by Production Weekly on Tuesday started a mess of headlines and speculation about James Cameron’s next project. The update simply read, “James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an ‘event’ film set in the future.” That 140-character limit can be a pain, huh?
A few outlets did some digging and Shane Salerno’s last announced script was Doomsday Protocol, “an science fiction adventure” about a team of humans and aliens formed to save Earth. Not exactly a stretch for him, so that guess was a good for a while.
Cameron wasn’t much help. When asked in interviews leading up to the release of Avatar, the Titanic director has answered a variation of the same metaphor, “You don’t ask a woman if she wants to have more kids when she’s crowning.” Thanks for the mental picture, Jim. »

MTV Movies Blog spoke with the director at the Avatar world premiere in London he is planning on remaking The Fantastic Voyage in 3D. Production Weekly announded the rumor yesterday when they reported via Twitter that “James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an ‘event’ film set in the future.”
It seems Cameron won’t be in the director’s chair on this film though, as he seems to be only involved in a producer capacity at this time. The original film centered on a team of scientists who shrink themselves to microscopic sizes and are injected into a dying diplomat’s body, mavuevering a microscopic ship through his body to surgically repair the blood clot in his brain.
I loved the original and think of no one better to bring a new version to the big screen than Cameron. Even though »

With Avatar around the corner, James Cameron is already diving back into his work, beginning the development process on a remake of Fantastic Voyage. Shane Salerno wrote the script, which is as sure a sign as anything that Cameron won't direct.
It's being reported that Fox, which is distributing the prohibitively priced Avatar, is hunting for a director and that the film will lean on the same kind of 3-D magic Cameron used in his new movie.
Perhaps this sounds familiar to you. This is not the first time word of a Fantastic Voyage remake has surfaced. It was a Roland Emmerich project a while ago, but that talk died down quickly when he began work on 2012. Oddly enough, with that disaster movie approaching the $700 million mark in global ticket sales, he'd probably be a guy at or near the top of the list now. It doesn't appear that way, »

Earlier this week Production Weekly tweeted that director James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action, and at the time it was thought it would be "Doomsday Protocol" but that's not the case.
Variety now reports that the sci-fi action film is a remake of the classic 1966 "Fantastic Voyage," which Cameron will only produce and not direct.
The story centres on a dying scientist whose only chance for survival rests with five colleagues who are miniaturized and injected into his bloodstream.
“Fantastic Voyage” needs a director. Roland Emmerich had been attached to the project before he set his sights on the apocalyptic “2012.”
Lately, Indian helmer Tarsem Singh has been rumored as a candidate.

A couple of days ago we posted a short news story [1] about James Cameron being involved in a new futuristic sci-fi action movie written by Shane Salerno. At the time, there was speculation that it might be Doomsday Protocol, a previously announced project written by Salerno, but today we have learned what the mysterious project will actually be: a remake of Richard Fleischer's 1966 sci-fi film Fantastic Voyage. Variety [2] reports that Cameron will not direct, but that he is planning to use the same 3-D technology as Avatar -- even going so far as to re-use the same "CG mountains, plants, trees, leaves, flowers, bugs"! The movie centers on a scientist who is left comatose after an attempt on his life. His colleagues must shrink down using his own experimental technology and inject themselves into his blood stream to help save his life. Roland Emmerich was attached to direct the remake once upon a time, »

Remember that tweet by Production Weekly the other day, the one that said James Cameron was developing a sci-fi movie for Fox? This tweet, to be exact: "James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an "event" film set in the future." Well, everyone immediately assumed that said project was "Doomsday Protocol," which was described as a take on "The Seven Samurai." Well, guess what: It turns out that this is not the case. MTV News' Josh Horowitz spoke with Cameron and producer Jon Landau on the red carpet at the London premiere of "Avatar." The actual plan is to remake sci-fi classic "Fantastic Voyage," in 3-D, with Cameron taking on the role of producer. In the original, a small team attempts to save the life of a nearly-assassinated diplomat through a uniquely invasive surgical procedure. Yesterday, we reported the buzz around James Cameron developing a new sci-fi project with writer Shane Salerno. Well, now we know what it is: a remake of 1966's Fantastic Voyage. It's been a pet project of Cameron's for a while (with Roland Emmerich and Tarsem Singh both attached to direct at different points in time), and now it looks like he'll be turning it into another 3D/digital project like Avatar vying for his attention. But unlike his latest epic, it's looking like he'll just produce this one.We don't yet know how much Salerno and Cameron will alter the plot of Voyage - the original saw a team of scientists miniaturized and injected into the bloodstream of a diplomat who barely survives an assassination attempt.Trouble is, the man's body isn't exactly happy about the new arrivals, and the crew must also deal with a traitor in their midst. »

Turns out that feature is a remake of the classic 1966 sci-fi feature "Fantastic Voyage" which Cameron will produce.
The story centres on a dying scientist whose only chance for survival rests with five colleagues who are miniaturized and injected into his bloodstream.
The film is expected to be the first of several features that Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment will utilise the 3-D and digital technology developed for "Avatar". »

If you got excited about the prospect of seeing another new James Cameron movie within the next 5 years or so, based on the news that he was developing a new script, hold your horses. MTV caught up with the man himself at the red carpet premiere of Avatar in London, and he's only planning to produce the new project-- and it's not what you think. The Shane Salerno script that Cameron is producing is apparently a remake of The Fantastic Voyage, the 1966 film in which a team of doctors and explorers shrink themselves down to microscopic size in order to enter a diplomat's body, perform surgery on a blood clot, and save his life. No details on when he plans to make it or exactly how fantastic it will be this time, but come on, this is Cameron-- he has apparently once again revolutionized special effects with Avatar, and now »

Yesterday, all the scuttlebutt was that James Cameron was soon to direct a kind of seven samurai in space film from a script written by Shane Salerno maybe called Doomsday Protocol. While this may one day come to pass and will likely be pretty sweet, James Cameron himself spilled the beans on his next dip into the salty Sci-Fi seas. On the red carpet, during the London premiere of a small indy film James just finished called “Avatar”, James scoffed at this idea and said that he will be producing a new film soon based on Fantastic Voyage. Fantastic Voyage is about a team of intrepid science types that get miniaturized by a probably evil Soviet scientist and injected, with spaceship, into a human with issues. This movie has been done like a hundred times it seems. How many times do we have to see the scene where the white »

Yesterday, Production Weekly had an interesting news item that James Cameron would be developing a “futuristic sci-fi ‘event’ movie” working from a script by Shane Salerno (Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem), which led to the speculation that it may be a movie called THR reported on last year called Doomsday Protocol. However, MTV Movies Blog sat down with Cameron and asked him about this mystery project and it turns out that Cameron is production (not directing) a remake of the 1966 sci-fi film Fantastic Voyage.
For those who don’t know, Voyage is about a group of scientists who are shrunken down to miniature size in order to save a nearly-assassinated diplomat by using a very, very, very tiny submarine to travel to the diplomat’s brain and stop a clot from killing him. The remake would be in 3D like Cameron’s Avatar, which hits theaters in eight days. Since it »

Just yesterday I posted a story headlined "James Cameron Prepping His Next Epic at Fox with Salerno? " based on a Production Weekly Twitter post that read, "James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an 'event' film set in the future."
Naturally this sent most of the online world back in time and looking at a pitch Salerno was working on with Cameron called Doomsday Protocol described as an epic science fiction adventure in the vein of Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai involving a group of aliens and humans with various abilities who are brought together to save Earth. Well, that wasn't the project that was being referenced.
MTV got the word from Cameron and producer Jon Landau on the red carpet at the London premiere of Avatar and learned the project in question is a planned remake of the 1966 sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage in 3-D, »

Yesterday there was news that James Cameron is developing "a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an ‘event’ film set in the future." At the time no one knew anything else about the picture, but Salerno's involvement led some to speculate that this was Doomsday Protocol, a script Salerno sold to Fox, announced last year. That isn't the case, however, based on a red carpet interview given by Cameron last night at the London premiere of Avatar. The film is actually a 3D remake of Fantastic Voyage, and Cameron is only producing, not directing. MTV talked to Cameron and his producer Jon Landau, and they reportedly gave up the details. That's all we know for now, as MTV doesn't report any further statements from the pair. In the early Am hours on December 9, an attention-grabbing tweet popped up in the Twitter feed for Production Weekly: "James Cameron is developing a Shane Salerno-scripted sci-fi action script for Fox, described as an "event" film set in the future." MTV News' Josh Horowitz spoke with Cameron and producer Jon Landau on the red carpet at the London premiere of "Avatar," and the project in question has nothing to do with space-age samurai. It’s an interesting question, no? Avatar is out next week (Filmshaft has seen it but can’t say anything until next week!), so naturally everybody wants to know what’s next for the King of the World. I don’t want to shock you all, but it turns out he’s working on another sc-fi movie. Production Weekly have it that Cameron has been overseeing a script by Shane Salerno. Who? Well Salerno is responsible for Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem. Is Cameron working on a new Alien movie? Not likely. However, the script purchased by Fox Studios is described as an “action script of Fox, an ‘event’ film set in the future.”
Wild speculation will mount as to whether Cameron follows up Avatar with the long-time project Battle Angel Alita. But don’t hold your breath as it’s taken him twelve years to get into the director’s chair. »
