Mark Wahlberg Too Emotional While Playing His Role In ‘The Lovely Bones’

22 December 2009 7:38 AM, PST | Gossipvita | See recent Gossipvita news »

The actor found the experience of shooting the film – about a murdered girl looking down on her family in limbo – so emotional that it also affected his home life. Mark is “still learning to juggle” the emotions of his role as Jack Salmon, the father of the murdered girl. The soon to be father-of-four said: “I would just grab my daughter and hold her, and I would start crying. “She’d be like, ‘Daddy, what’s wrong?’ She just wanted to play. “I would try to talk to her about taking care of herself and not talking to strangers. “She was three at the time. But, thankfully, I had another movie to go to that helped me get out of that.” Mark, 38, also praised his co-star Rachel Weisz for being so in control of her feelings, saying she has an ability to “just snap into it and have these floods »

Dave Allocca/Startraks

The subject matter of The Lovely Bones was disturbing for millions of parents, but for the actors charged with the task of bringing the bestselling book to life, even more so.

Mark Wahlberg — a soon-to-be father-of-four — praises costar Rachel Weisz for her ability to “just snap into it and have these floods of emotion coming out and then turn it all off.” By contrast, Mark says that because of the way he approaches his job “he had to live in that head space for the entire time.”

That much was evident when he would return home after »

Films Of The Decade – Alex’s List

18 December 2009 4:15 PM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

10 years is bloody ages in film terms. To narrow it down to my ten favourite films of the decade was no easy task. Even now I look at my list and can’t help but think…where the hell is Gladiator? Why didn’t I include any Lord Of The Rings films? What about The Dark Knight? Damn, what about The Lives Of Others, Pan’s Labyrinth, Finding Nemo, Downfall, No Country For Old Men? All of those films are incredible candidates and on another day they might have made it. The truth is no self-respecting film buff will ever be able to narrow down 10 films to fit a list and not have it change every so often.

One day my opinion of the best film of all time will be Seven Samurai the next day it will be Apocalypse Now and the day after that it might be Night Of The Hunter. »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Three

Dinner for Schmucks

Opens: July 23rd 2010

Cast: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, Bruce Greenwood, David Walliams

Director: Jay Roach

Summary: A renowned publisher encourages his friends to invite the most pathetic guests possible for their weekly dinner party. Just as they find the most pathetic man yet, the host is injured and ends up trapped with the man all night long.

Analysis: A remake of director Francis Veber's 1998 César award-winning "Le Diner des cons", 'Schmucks' is one of the highest profile comedies of next year with one of the strongest casts for the genre in recent memory. It also marks the return of "Austin Powers" and "Meet the Parents" helmer Jay Roach who has produced several films in recent years but hasn't directed since 2004's "Meet the Fockers".

The question now lies not in the performers or director but the material itself and whether a Gallic comedy can »

Today, MakingOf premieres it's third interview with writer-director Darren Aronofsky. The focus is on the collaborative nature of filmmaking, which in his opinion is all about "bringing different experts together to express themselves as a group." He further explains that his first three films ("Pi," "Requiem for a Dream," and "The Fountain") were shot using an identical crew but for "The Wrestler" he chose to shake things up and worked with an almost entirely different group. The key to success, he shares, is "surrounding yourself with people you respect and admire."

Aronofsky is currently working with his latest crew on the production of his fifth film "The Black Swan." The supernatural thriller is set in the world of New York ballet and the cast includes Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Winona Ryder and Vincent Cassel

Mila Kunis Gets Bruises for Playing Ballerina in 'Black Swan'

16 December 2009 12:35 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Billed to portray a ballerina in "Black Swan", Mila Kunis seems to have been practicing very hard for the role. According to IMDb, the actress has been left battered with bumps, bruises, cuts, and a separated shoulder because of her clumsy nature. She is now reportedly covered with bandages as she walks limply around the set and wishing she was more careful.

Explaining about her injuries, Kunis stated, "I'm broken. I've pulled so many ligaments, I have tendinitis in my left knee... I had to get an Mri because I popped my shoulder out, and then it inflamed. My toes and hips are bruised." However, her three-month preparation for the film has given her a reward of great shape. "I'm in the sickest shape I've been in my life by far. I'm also on a really strict diet. I'm dieting, then working out three or four hours a day," the 26-year-old beauty said. »

Interview with Arthur Cauty – director of wrestling documentary Hard Knocks

15 December 2009 12:18 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

There is a famous quote in Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters in which Max Von Sydow’s character Frederick ponders aloud:

“You see the whole culture. Nazis, deodorant salesmen, wrestlers, beauty contests, a talk show. Can you imagine the level of a mind that watches wrestling?”

To Frederick it is baffling anyone would waste their time watching men in spandex engage in an orgy of pre-planned fake violence. Yet to Roland Barthes, the famous academic and acclaimed thinker, wrestling transcends the primitive notion that it consists solely of pretend fights; to him wrestling was one of the grand spectacles – part ballet, part Greek morality play, theatre and athletics combined, storytelling through physicality. Andy Kaufman, renowned for his eccentric humour, alternatively saw wrestling as a sublime medium for performing arts – blending fact and fantasy to invoke very real emotion from audiences.

To say professional wrestling is a subject that »

Rinsch to Direct ‘Black Lagoon’ Remake?

15 December 2009 5:08 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

If this news turns out to be true, I’m more than a little excited: it seems that Ridley Scott protege/son-in-law Carl Erik Rinsch, also known as the man briefly attached to direct the next Alien film, is in talks to helm a remake of 1954’s Creature From the Black Lagoon.

I know what you’re going to say already. Excited about a remake? For shame!

But let’s get something straight: if remakes are going to be a ceaseless avenue of profit (as they always have been in Hollywood), then we should place them in the hands of young, talented directors. Rinsch hasn’t had his chance to shine in the limelight, but look at what Alexandre Aja did with The Hills Have Eyes, for crying out loud!

Creature From the Black Lagoon will be produced by Marc Abraham, Eric Newman, and Gary Ross. Rinsch will make his debut with 47 Ronin, »

Weisz Dreams Of Normal Life For Son

15 December 2009 12:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Rachel Weisz's young son looks set to follow in his mother's acting footsteps - but she is hoping he decides against a career in the spotlight.

The Mummy star and her fiance Darren Aronofsky welcomed Henry in 2006, and the filmmaker recently took the three year old to see Weisz on the London stage, where she was starring in A Streetcar Named Desire.

And it seems the experience gave the youngster a taste for acting.

Weisz says, "His dad brought him in after a matinee to watch the curtain call and he figured out bowing and getting claps. So, yesterday, he put on his policeman’s outfit and bowed. That was the show."

But the 39 year old is adamant she doesn't want her son to pick acting as a career: "I hope he’s not an actor - I’d dissuade him as hard as I could." »

I Heart Huckabees director joins Natalie Portman for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

14 December 2009 2:46 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies at first appeared to be a one note literary effort. The title was kind of amusing, to a degree, but surely there was not much more that could be done with this idea? Well apparently a slew of film companies thought otherwise at Seth Graham-Smith’s book, Jane Austen’s original tome with inserted undead characters, was announced as a go project by Richard Kelly’s Darko Films. Then, to add the project some credence, it was surprisingly declared that Natalie Portman, demure enough to play period and kooky enough to be hip, had signed on for the project.

Today, according to Pajiba, the film has taken an even more interesting turn. David O Russell, the hot tempered director of Three Kings, Flirting With Disaster and I Heart Huckabees, is apparently finalizing a deal to direct and adapt the project from page to screen. Although »

Calling motherhood a “tremendous experience,” Rachel Weisz says in a new interview that it’s nonetheless a hard concept to grasp until it actually happens. “People tell you about motherhood and you think, yeah, yeah, whatever,” the 39-year-old actress tells The Sunday Telegraph. “But it’s something you have to experience for yourself to know what it is.”

“It’s impossible to talk about it in any sensible way without sounding ridiculous.”

Having accepted the Best Supporting Actress Oscar while seven months pregnant with Henry Chance, 3 ½, in 2006, Rachel says that she hopes it is her son’s »

Most Shocking: Dexter Season 4 Finale, Or Michael C. Hall's New Look?

14 December 2009 6:46 AM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

First of all, regardless of how shocking the Dexter Season 4 finale was (and it was very shocking indeed), it was in the next to last episode that Dexter embedded itself in television history.  I think John Lithgow uttering the words "Hello, Dexter Morgan" will live on the top ten of great television moments for all time.

Dexter returning home from dispatching the vile Trinity killer to find his wife dead, a very close second. A serial killer affirming his sense of humanity, only to have that slashed away – chilling.

Perhaps the strangest moment for me came in the minutes following the finale.  Showtime aired part of the clip I'll present below, of Dexter Season 4 stars Michael C. Hall and John Lithgow discussing the season.  It's great stuff, and I don't want to diminish it at all… but what the heck is up with Michael C. Hall's new look?  All »
