Updates on Robert Rodriguez’s Predators

5 November 2009 4:50 PM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

The original Predator inspired more American Film Market-screened knockoffs than just about any other movie, and the word on the street here at the sales event is that the upcoming Robert Rodriguez production Predators will also jumpstart a whole new stream of human-vs.-aliens movies. And those who gotten a look at the Predators screenplay have been raving.

These sources tell Fango that this sequel ignores Predator 2 as well as both Alien Vs. Predator movies, and is a direct sequel to the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starrer. The script, by Michael Finch, Alex Litvak and Rodriguez, not only takes place on Earth, but its human characters also travel to the Predators’ planet to hunt the extraterrestrials. We will see new species—including Predator dogs!—and there’s going to be a Berserker Predator, the meanest badass of them all. And in some surprising FX news, Knb Efx’s Howard Berger and »

First Look: Adrien Brody & Forest Whitaker in The Experiment

5 November 2009 11:19 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Haven't heard of The Experiment? Don't worry, there are always plenty of great indies you've never heard of! Our friends at Bloody-Disgusting got their hands on a few new photos from The Experiment at Afm. The film, which is a remake of Oliver Hirschbiegel's Das Experiment, is about a group of ordinary people who are chosen to participate in the roles of guards and prisoners in a psychological study that examines how the effects of assigned roles, power, and control affect the participants. Obviously it spins out of control. Adrien Brody, Forest Whitaker, Elijah Wood, Cam Gigandet, Clifton Collins Jr. and Maggie Grace all star in this. I love these types of films. I'm already reminded of The Killing Room, which is another great "experiment" film, and I need to watch the original Das Experiment before this as well. There's also another German film called The Wave that played »

Valentino Continues to Draw an A-List Crowd

5 November 2009 9:18 AM, PST | Vanity Fair | See recent Vanity Fair news »

Terence Koh and Daphne Guinness. Photograph by Todd Eberle. Tuesday night saw another party at the top of New York City's Standard Hotel, with another celebration for the DVD release of Vanity Fair special correspondent Matt Tyrnauer's documentary about fashion designer Valentino Garavani. As usual, the stars flocked to pay tribute to one of the gods of the red carpet, with heavyweights such as Madonna, Hugh Jackman, and Adrien Brody stopping by. Of course, no party would be complete without a slew of Pretty Young Things, and they turned out in force, with Mischa Barton, Byrdie Bell, Genevieve Jones, and Harley Viera-Newton leading the charge. Madonna's boy toy, Jesus Luz, took to the decks to play the spot's signature loud techno, and gallerists Larry Gagosian and Mary Boone mingled, admiring the view. Designer Thakoon Panichgul stepped into the smoking nook with some trepidation. "This seems like the Amazing Race, »

Afm: First Still from The Experiment Remake

5 November 2009 1:15 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The first official still from the Paul Scheuring directed remake of Das Experiment (review), called simply The Experiment, debuted at Afm today, and the only words that come to mind for us are -- Please. Someone. Anyone. Get Adrien Brody a sandwich. Thanks.

The Experiment stars Adrien Brody, Maggie Grace, Forest Whitaker, Clifton Collins, Jr., and Cam Gigandet.

For those not in the know the story shows what happens when a research study on a group of ordinary men recruited to take on the roles of guards and prisoners goes terribly out of control. Brody will portray the de facto leader of the prisoners while Whitaker will play a guard who's corrupted by the power he's given. If you're unfamiliar with the actual Stanford Prison Experiment, click here to read all about it.

Chuck Russell Enjoys Himself Some Arabian Nights 3D

4 November 2009 8:38 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Chuck Russell has been attached to a lot of movies since “The Scorpion King” in 2002, but as far as I know he hasn’t finished or actually come through with any of them. (What’s up with “Northern Lights”, Chuckie?) The latest project to strike his fancy is a $70 million dollar retelling of the classic “Arabian Nights” tale, in which Russell co-wrote the script and is attached to direct in the 3D format. Russell’s version of “Arabian Nights” will follow a young commander who, after his king is killed in a palace coup, joins forces with fellow good guys Sinbad, Aladdin, and his genie to rescue the comely Scheherazade and her kingdom from dark powers. Much CG carpet-riding and sword fights ensue. The boys at Inferno Entertainment will foot the bill. They have “The Experiment” with Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker coming up, and the action-thriller “The Killer Elite” with Jason Statham on tap. »

"The Fantastic Mr. Fox" is inching closer to its theatrical release date, and in anticipation of that, 20th Century Fox has brought out a brand new featurette and an inside look. The featurette comes out via Yahoo! Movies and takes a look at the unique recording process of the characters' voices. The inside look, in the meantime, revolves around Bill Murray as Badger.

Maggie Grace Not Returning for Final Season of Lost

3 November 2009 11:55 PM, PST | TVStar | See recent TVStar news »

Who doesn't love a woman with issues? Maggie Grace played the scorned rich girl turned poor after her father suddenly died on the ABC hit show Lost. Having to con her way through life, Shannon Rutherford finds a way to trick her stepbrother Boone into giving her everything she wants. It helps that Boone is in love with her and would do anything for his stepsister. Juicy, right? Things only heat up when the survivors of Flight 815 crash on a deserted island and Shannon sparks up a relationship with Sayid officer in the Iraqi Republican Guard. So is the blonde vixen heading back to Hawaii to film the final season of Lost (TV) or what? The final season of Lost (TV) is only a few months away and we are hearing that one cast member might not make it back to the island. Remember Maggie Grace? What I Watched, What You Watched: Installment #15

On top of the titles listed below I also watch the Criterion Blu-ray for Howards End and the Blu-ray for Warner Home Video's North By Northwest, both of which will be reviewed on Tuesday along with the Criterion Blu-ray for Wings of Desire. On top of that I watched the Blu-ray for Disney/Pixar's Up, which will be reviewed in a couple of weeks along with the Blu-ray versions of Monsters, Inc. and Cars.

As for the titles listed below, the first three are the final three of Sony's November 3 release of Film Noir Collection Volume One after I discussed my thoughts on The Sniper and 5 Against the House last week. Sin City 2 Set for 2010? Hard Boiled Set for a Follow-Up?

29 October 2009 3:49 PM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City truly felt like a breath of fresh air. It was visceral and fun, and stylistically true to the graphic novel source material in ways that no other adaptation had ever been before.

Then came The Spirit, which sort of put a damper on things. Frank Miller shot himself in the foot in a big way, and so he’s been talking up a sequel to Sin City in order to raise his own spirits, it seems. There have been rumors of the involvement of Johnny Depp, which can mostly be chalked up to fan outcry. However, no big steps toward actually beginning production have been taken.

Things are starting to get a little more concrete, though: producer Stephen L’Heureux says that not only will Sin City 2 start shooting toward the end of next year, but also Frank Miller will follow »

Abu-Assad and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are the New 'Courier'

29 October 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- What an odd move it would make to see Hany Abu-Assad (who has been waiting, and waiting some more for his next project to unfold) to move from Paradise Now onto a screenplay written from the pair who gave us 3:10 to Yuma, currently lensing The A-Team and the "Wanted" franchise. According to the Production Weekly twitter feed, Abu-Assad has replaced the once pegged Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil: Extinction) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will take on the role that originally went to Adrien Brody. Somehow Morgan delivering a suitcase is slightly more believable than Brody delivering the goods.   The Courier centers on a daredevil courier who's pursued across the country by corrupt cops and rival crime bosses when he has to deliver a briefcase to a notorious underworld figure who can't be found. I haven't read the script, but I imagine this will have less screeching wheels than what »

Brighton Beach Memoirs

26 October 2009 6:57 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

If the view from under the Brighton Beach el is not quite today's world vision, it offers a nostalgia trip to the late 1930's that is worth glimpsing, especially through Neil Simon's round lenses. The subject of Brighton Beach Memoirs, directed by David Cromer, is a budding writer's coming of age. Eugene Morris Jerome, a stand-in for the playwright played by Noah Robbins, a young actor who somewhat resembles Adrien Brody if he were a nerd, narrates the story of his family as he, post-Bar Mitzvah, still home, ventures toward young manhood. He is aided along the way by parents at a time when father knew best, and mother, worried and fed her brood-as fits their economy, liver and lima beans. From an upstairs bedroom in the two-story house, a set beautifully designed by John Lee Beatty, Eugene's brother Stanley... »

Adrien Brody Shows Off His Ripped Abs Shirtless in Hawaii - Sexy or Not?

Adrien Brody stripped down and showed off some impressive abs - Friday Manjoyment! - swimming in Hawaii last week. He's there while filming his new movie Predators with costar Topher Grace. In the remake, Adrien is taking on Arnold Schwarzenegger's role, and it looks like the often-scrawny actor is taking the bulking up seriously. I am certainly not complaining about that six-pack, but last time we asked about Adrien, you were pretty split. So what do you think about these shirtless photos of Adrien Brody - sexy or not? The New Jason Is Probably A Predator

21 October 2009 9:32 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The cast of Robert Rodriguez's Predator reboot runs a weird gamut from highbrow-- Adrien Brody-- to lowbrow-- Danny Trejo-- with a lot of room left in the middle-- Topher Grace, good to see you! But chalk one up today for the lowbrow team, as Derek Mears, a.k.a. the new face of Jason in that Platinum Dunes reboot of Friday the 13th, has signed on to join the madness. Shock Til You Drop, which broke the news, isn't saying who he'll be playing, but there's reason to speculate he'll have his face shrouded again in costume as one of the Predators that Brody's team must defeat. Mears did a good job of being intimidating with nothing but his body in Friday the 13th, and I imagine they're looking for that skill from the actors hired to be inside the Predator suits. Sure, it's possible he'll be playing a human, »

Now that's more like it! After hearing that Adrien Brody and Topher Grace were set to star in Robert Rodriguez's Predators we were all a bit worried. But then Danny Trejo joined the cast, which seemed a step in the right direction, and now we have another bit of news that amplifies that sentiment. Jason himself, Derek Mears, will be stomping around the alien jungles as well. The question now is, what will he play? A Predator or a prey? ‘Friday the 13th’ killer joins ‘Predators’

20 October 2009 9:45 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Friday the 13th killer Derek Mears is used to murdering people as Jason Voorhes. Now he may do some good ‘ol’ fashioned killin’ on the predators home-world in the upcoming sci-fi feature Predators.

Director Nimrod Antal has added Mears to the cast of, let’s be honest, a group that was originally less than thrilling when it was announced. Robert Rodriguez, who is producing the film, revealed that Adrien Brody, Topher Grace and Machete star Danny Trejo are the film’s first cast members. It’s not known whether Mears will be playing one of the humans that wind up on the alien world to be hunted or if he will be playing a predator.

“People were talking for a couple of weeks, but I wasn’t able to confirm,” Mears told Dread Central. “I kept assuring the filmmakers that I was not the leak. Now it’s out there, »

Derek Mears joins Predators

Derek Mears will go from masked slaughter to alien war, as he's joining the cast of Nimrod Antal's Predators. He brings some much needed muscle bulk to a movie that will see Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins and Alice Braga as a tough team of humans kidnapped by the dreadlock-sporting nasties for their hunting pleasure. And according to Film School Rejects, the movie will also feature a bigger, badder command Predator who our heroes will have to face. Could that be Mears' role? He certainly knows how to stalk and...

Derek Mears to Fight ‘Predators’

19 October 2009 5:36 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Earlier today, Robert Fure wrote about Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Predators movie, calling it out as one film that could really use an awesome big boss fight at the end. This comes on the heels of the announcement that the film will include the presence of a big super Predator who will be large and in-charge. And I'm right there with him -- bring on the big boss fight. Along with said revelation, we also now know (thanks to Shock Till You Drop) who else might be standing alongside badasses Adrien Brody and Topher Grace when they go up against the legion of Predators. None other than Jason Voorhees himself, Derek Mears. The Nimrod Antal (Armored) directed film has been looked at sideways by fans online for weeks now, ever since the likes of Grace and Brody were announced as part of the Predator-hunting brigade. Danny Trejo wasn't enough to make us believe that this film »
