Blu-Ray Review: Battlestar Galactica Complete Series

27 December 2009 5:00 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

I hate to say it, but I was late to the Battlestar Galactica party.  I watched part of the mini series when it aired, but for some reason, didn’t pick it up when the series started.

I just recently watched the series in it’s entirety.  Then I went back and watched it again from beginning to end on Blu Ray.  And now, I’m watching it for a third time.  It takes a lot for me to proclaim that a show is my favorite of all time.  The only other show I’ve really done that with was the X-Files.  I ended up having to retract that title after the fifth season.

But in all honesty, I can say that BSG is by far, my favorite show.  On one hand I’m sad it’s ended but on the other I’m glad it did.  They didn’t »

In Defense Of: 'The X-Files: I Want to Believe'

23 November 2009 2:15 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

*There are spoilers here.*

I've been meaning to write this for a while, but wanted to wait until I could give The X-Files: I Want to Believe a second viewing, which I finally did yesterday, on beautiful Blu-Ray. I am a long-time X-Phile; the show, which I started watching around age 13, is one of my formative viewing experiences; I trace my current love for things ambiguous, fantastic and otherworldly squarely back to Chris Carter's brilliant creation. And I dissent in a big way from both the layman and fan consensus on I Want to Believe. I still think, as I did in the summer of 2008, that the movie is a fantastic X-Files episode. But more importantly, I still think it is a genuinely moving farewell to two beloved characters, and one of the most satisfying pieces of closure that any long-running series or franchise has ever given us.

Hang on a minute... Sam Worthington is being linked to Mad Max 4 now? Steady on, ABC News. At least they're sticking to the Charlize Theron part of the story. But what's that about the project taking two and a half years? Blimey. 30 weeks of that will be at Broken Hill, the location for Mad Max 2, so far the series' zenith. Another 15 little newslets that haven't made it to the front page for some mysterious reason or another coming right up after this break. Henriksen's up for it, he tells Aint it Cool, but is telling the producers to not move ahead without Carter. David Duchovny Keen on Another X-Files Movie

22 October 2009 10:15 AM, PDT | SciFiCool.com | See recent SciFiCool.com news »

Despite poor box office and generally “meh” critical reviews and mostly indifferent moviegoer word of mouth, David Duchovny insists there is still an audience for another “X-Files” movie. The audience is out there, if you will. Ahem. In an interview with The Daily Beast, Duchovny breaks down his current thought process on another potential “X-Files” movie: “As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.” He defends last year’s widely panned I Want to Believe, as well as the polarizing last few seasons of the television run: “I was happy with it… I have nothing but respect for »

David Duchovny hopes for third X-Files movie in 2012

21 October 2009 10:27 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

In August, X-Files star Gillian Anderson said she would be happy to reprise her role as agent Dana Scully in a third X-Files movie and suggested that it was already in the early stages of development

The good news today is that co-star David Duchovny - currently playing sex-obsessed novelist Hank Moody in the TV series Californication - has confirmed he is also willing to return as Fox Mulder.

There have so far been two feature film spin-offs from the hit TV series: Fight the Future in 1998 and last year's I Want to Believe.

Earlier speculation said that the next movie would focus on the 2012 alien invasion revealed in the final episode of the TV series, where Mulder and Scully learned the event was foretold in the Mayan calendar.

Duchovny had last year expressed a hope for further films and he has now told The Daily Beast: "As far as »

David Duchovny Speaks Out About a Third X-Files Film

21 October 2009 8:52 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Although the second film didn't exactly set fire to the box office, the star of a popular sci-fi film and TV series is ready for more. The Daily Beast recently chatted with The X-Files star David Duchovny, who revealed he would still be in for a third film that would follow last year's The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Here's a section of the site's article.

However, Duchovny looks forward to filming a third X-Files film in the near future. "As far as the X-Files movie I'd like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. Duchovny Looks To X-Files 3

20 October 2009 11:32 PM, PDT | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

With The X Files: I Want to Believe having done okay at the box office last year and fans calling for more of Agents Mulder and Scully, David Duchovny (Agent Fox Mulder to the uninitiated) has been talking about the possibility of a third X-Files film.

The original X-Files series, which ran from 1993 to 2002 made global stars of Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, making global stars of the pair. Duchovny has since gone on to find television fame once more with the character Hank Moody in the Showtime original series Californication, but could there really be a third film, does The X-Files still have a story to tell?

David Duchovny Wants 'X-Files' Movie For 2012

20 October 2009 9:08 PM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

David Duchovny still wants a third X-Files movie, having achieved peace with the impact his character of Fox Mulder had on his life and career. You'll remember, Duchovny wanted to stop shooting the show in Vancouver in favor of Los Angeles, and he and Gillian Anderson both kind of walked away from the series (and the first film) not looking back.

But the cast and creator Chris Carter reunited to make X-Files: I Want to Believe, which was a bit of a letdown, even though it had a modest budget allowing the film to become profitable. So a third movie, now that everyone is re-invested in the lore of the original series, seems inevitable.

David Duchovny Still Wants to Believe in a 3rd X-Files Movie

20 October 2009 8:08 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

I think it’s terrific that David Duchovny is so excited to do another “X-Files” movie despite the quality and non-existent box office of 2008’s “The X-Files: I Want to Believe”.  I think it’s hilarious that when the show was still on the air, Duchovny couldn’t get away fast enough and had his ass abducted off the show.  But now, as he’s done before, Duchovny is cheerleading another “X-Files” movie.  Hit the jump to have the conspiracy go eat itself.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, Duchovny had this to say in regards to another “X-Files” movie:

However, Duchovny looks forward to filming a third X-Files film in the near future. “As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. »

Duchovny Talks Up Third X-Files Movie

20 October 2009 7:39 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

The subject of a third X-Files film has been brought to the table once again.  Despite being a critical snuff and pulling in a lukewarm box office, the negative aura surrounding X-Files: I Want To Believe hasn’t stopped the hype train from pulling away for a third go-around.  David Duchovny, whose presence in a third film is mandatory at this stage, recently spoke with The Daily Beast about his career, life during and after X-Files on TV, and his reemergence in the television world with Californication.

While Duchovny says he was “happy” both with I Want To Believe and the final, two seasons of the series, which created an aircraft carrier-sized spectrum amongst fans on whether they loved it or hated it, he isn’t afraid to bring up the possibilities of another film adaptation.

David Duchovny Wants To Believe That A Third 'X-Files' Movie Could Happen

20 October 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Following the widely-perceived failure of "X-Files: I Want To Believe," does anybody really want or need to see a third installment in the "X-Files" movie franchise? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller?

Apparently, David Duchovny — none other than Fox Mulder himself, kids — is up for it.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, the "Californication" star spoke about his hopes for a third "X-Files" film. Duchovny believes that "X-Files 3" could be perfectly appropriate for a 2012 release, thanks to the year's supposedly catastrophic nature according to Nostradamus and Roland Emmerich's (via the Mayan civilization) prophecies.

"As far as the X-Files movie I'd like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy," Duchovny said. "I think it's natural for 'The X-Files' to have another movie in 2012, so we'll see if we get to do it. »

David Duchovny Talks X-Files 3

20 October 2009 12:21 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Fans of The X-Files have been discussing a possible third film in the science fiction series since the release of last year’s much-maligned I Want To Believe. While no concrete news has yet been released, it would appear that all of the principals are on board to return for a third big-screen X-Files adventure.

The latest person to talk up X-Files 3 is Fox Mulder himself - David Duchovny.

Duchovny recently spoke with The Daily Beast and stated that (like most fans) he would like the next film to tackle the 2012 mythology within the hit show.

Duchovny said:

“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we »

Will TV’s ‘Millennium’ Become a Movie?

20 October 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Roland Emmerich is getting a lot of attention right now for his upcoming end-of-the-world-blow-absolutely-everything-up movie 2012.  I’ll admit it, I’m a fan of Emmerich’s work, especially the ones in which he gives us unprecedented levels of destruction. Honestly, 2012 makes The Day After Tomorrow look like a warm up.

However, there was a television show that prophesied about the end of the world long before Emmerich planned the wanton destruction in 2012.  The show was Millennium, created by The X-Files visionary Chris Carter. The show followed Frank Black (Lance Henrikson) as an ex- FBI agent with the ability to see into the minds of killers and track them down.

All this while dealing with the enigmatic Millennium group who tried to prevent the world from coming to an apocalyptic end in the year 2000 (hence the name). The show was pretty dark for its time but brilliant all the same. So brilliant it was inevitably canceled. »

“Millenium” may get the big screen treatment, X-Files 3 as well?

15 October 2009 8:12 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

At long last, the cult series Millenium may be paying a visit to the big screen.  The show was one of the darkest series in both subject matter and texture to ever grace television screens.  It was very stylized, with a neo-gothic colour palette.  Key to the series was Lance Henriksen, who starred as Frank Black, "a profiler who has remarkable insight into the minds of killers and other demented souls." Lance was best known as the android Bishop in the Alien trilogy. Millenium ran for three seasons, from 1996-1999, as a darker project from X-Files creator Chris Carter.  "While it wasn’t a huge hit, it did acquire many loyal fans during its run and a campaign has been ongoing to try and get some closure on the series." It looks like there may be hope for this project yet.  "Lance Henriksen was approached by private investors who wish »

Millennium Movie Happening Without Chris Carter?

12 October 2009 6:31 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Chris Carter used to be a big moneymaker for 20th Century Fox, with The X-Files and its movie and his other series, Millennium. But now all those franchises are finished, so what does Fox plan to do with Carter? Throw him under the bus, of course. Well, it depends on your perspective, I guess, what exactly they're doing. Screen Rant is reporting on plans for an independent production company to make a Millennium movie, with the participation of star Lance Henriksen but not Carter. Screen Rant is speculating that Fox might not produce the film but will distribute it, letting them get around using Carter but using the rights to the franchise that they own. And there's even a director potentially lined up: Brett A. Hart, who is actually saying he'll make the thing for free. Of course Hart, smartly, is playing dumb on the whole thing-- either that or »

Is A Millennium Film On The Way?

11 October 2009 7:31 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

News broke a few weeks ago that a film version of Chris Carter television show Millennium might be on the way. I’ve spent that time trying to gather some information on the project to see if fans will get to see the return of Lance Henriksen’s Frank Black character.

Millennium was a mid-to-late nineties show from the creator of The X-Files, Chris Carter, as a way of tackling darker stories that did not fit into the X-Files mold. Lance Henriksen starred as Frank Black, a profiler who has remarkable insight into the minds of killers and other demented souls. The show was like Michael Mann’s Manhunter crossed with Seven, by way of The X-Files. While it wasn’t a huge hit, it did acquire many loyal fans during its run and a campaign has been ongoing to try and get some closure on the series.

All you Millennium fans out there, listen up. Back to Frank Black,  the fan site whose sole purpose is to bring back actor Lance Henriksen in a film adaptation of Chris Carter’s cult TV show, sent Fango a few updates regarding their mission.

Firstly, the popular site will be teaming with Ibg and Henriksen himself for a charity auction to benefit Children of the Night, an organization dedicated to helping youths forced into prostitution. Among items up for sale will be Henriksen’s two Saturn Awards, autographed scripts from throughout the actor’s career, Millennium-theme sheet music signed by composer Mark Snow and autographed photos from series actresses Sarah-Jane Redmond and Klea Scott. Show props and crew memorabilia will also be available. A detailed list of items and their donators will be posted on the site soon.

Gillian Anderson Says There Might Be More 'X-Files'

22 August 2009 6:50 AM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

This is a long distance rumor, but I think you might be surprised by how valid it probably is. In a recent Croatian interview, Gillian Anderson talked openly about the prospects of a third X-Files movie, saying that Chris Carter and company "talked about maybe doing it in 2012."

But wait, you say, didn't the second movie lose money? Oh no. Far from it. In fact, it only cost about $30 million, so even though it wasn't a blockbuster, it doubled its budget by the time all was said and done. And when you factor in how much money Carter, Anderson, and David Duchovny got from the TV show, so long as it's generating any kind of cash, they can keep those going in perpetuity if they feel like it.

And unlike when they were working on the show's final couple of seasons, it sounds like everyone involved took a page out »
