Denzel Washington Interview The Book Of Eli

14 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Six months ago or so, Collider enjoyed the rare opportunity to visit the set of The Book of Eli, Allen and Albert Hughes’ postapocalyptic thriller about a laconic hero (Denzel Washington) who battles a shrewd but ruthless mercenary (Gary Oldman) and picks up a plucky barkeep (played by Mila Kunis) while walking across country to deliver a mysterious book. The day we were on set, however, there wasn’t a lot of book-bringing; rather, a massive firefight erupted outside a rickety, dilapidated house as we huddled inside a wind-whipped tent, futilely attempting to shield ourselves from billowing, violent clouds of dust. In fact, the weather was so unhospitable that Eli himself, Denzel Washington, couldn’t get over to us to sit down (or even huddle) for a quick chat.

A few weeks later, the small group of attending journalists caught up with Washington via telephone, where he offered a few »

Actress Mila Kunis was so glad to be done with her filthy outfit from post-apocalypse drama "The Book of Eli" she burned it. The "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" star hated having to don the same dirty clothes every day on the set of the upcoming Denzel Washington film and staged a ceremonial send-off when the film wrapped.

She tells WENN, "I kept none of my ensemble from the film. It was so dirty and filthy. In fact I burned it in effigy when we wrapped production." And Kunis urges film fans not to be swept up by her tough-girl character in the new film - she'd be no good surviving after a nuclear blast.

She adds, "In a post-apocalyptic world I would need toilet paper, so as not use leaves for the rest of my life. I wouldn't know what to eat. I would eat that snake with the yellow tail »

Blu-ray review: ‘Extract’ is Mike Judge’s most mature work yet

29 December 2009 1:57 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

If you’re expecting Mike Judge’s latest comedy Extract to act as a direct follow-up to the 1999 cult classic Office Space, then you’ll be sorely disappointed. Extract is a different animal only existing in the same genus with his past works with, not only Office Space, but his underrated satirical look at Western civilization in 2006’s Idiocracy. Extract appears to be Judge’s most mature work to date. Instead of easily taking the partisan side of the “working man/stiff/tool,” he looks at work from the eyes of the evil overseer of American enslavement: the boss.

While not as superficially funny as the writer/director’s previous, Extract features much more textured characters that are just as morally, oh, how should I say this, “complex.” This ensemble comedy centers on Joel (Jason Bateman) who owns and operates Reynold’s Extract, a bottler of vanilla, root beer and »

"When we do these murder nights, we watch movies, then we drive around at midnight, all around to these murder houses and take photos and we recreate the murder scenes. It's really twisted and weird.

"We went to the Black Dahlia house... We went by the Hillside Strangler's place and the Playboy model who was murdered by her ex-husband (Dorothy Stratten); that house looks exactly the same now as it does in the murder book... It's just creepy.

Clint Mansell Has Ambitious Plans for the Black Swan Soundtrack… And How About Source Code?

26 December 2009 4:04 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

At the very least, each of Clint Mansell's movie scores strengthens the film it accompanies and at the very best, his music works extraordinarily both in the picture and as standalone listening. With Lux Aeterna, his most astonishing cue from the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack, he managed to write one of the most beloved, discussed and arguably overplayed pieces of film music in the medium's entire history. After a career in the band Pop Will Eat Itself, Mansell's first two scores were for Darren Aronfosky's Pi and Requiem for a Dream, and he's gone on to write the music for every one of Aronfosky's films since. That will continue, unsurprisingly but still thankfully, with Aronfosky's next movie, Black Swan. If you're not up on Black Swan, and perhaps know it only as the film where Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis are going to have an 'intense' bedroom scene, »

New Behind-the-Scenes Featurette on the Fight Scenes in The Book Of Eli

24 December 2009 12:36 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

A behind-the-scenes video detailing the stunts, particularly the fight sequences, in the Hughes Brothers’ upcoming The Book of Eli recently popped up on Yahoo! Movies. Basically, it’s 2 ½ minutes of directors Albert and Allen Hughes, star Denzel Washington, and stunt coordinator Jeff Imada (fight coordinator for the last two Bourne flicks) talking about standard stuff like the intensity of the sequences and how amazing Denzel was at learning the techniques/doing his own stunts. Toward the end, they also get into some semi-interesting analysis of Eli’s fighting style and how it relates specifically to the character and his motivation. If you check out the vid, you might also catch a few non-behind-the-scenes clips that weren’t in the trailers.

Over the years, I’ve learned to be wary of high-concept actioners, but The Book of Eli is one I’m really looking forward to. It’s got a pair »

Forgotten Films: Santa With Muscles

Forgotten Films [1] is a semi-regular feature on Film Junk where we explore interesting movies that have fallen off the radar or slipped through the cracks over the years. Everyone loves a good turkey around Christmas, so this week we've got a very special movie to satisfy that holiday craving: Santa with Muscles, the 1996 crapterpiece starring Hulk Hogan! Sometimes movies become "forgotten films" for a very good reason, and in the case of Santa With Muscles, it seems perfectly acceptable that the majority of the world is blissfully unaware of its existence. Still, with a ridiculous title like that, I felt compelled to seek out a copy and investigate further. It had to be good for at least a few laughs, right? In recent years we've seen plenty of WWE wrestlers make the transition to questionable acting careers, but many people forget that a handful of the popular '80s wrestlers »
