The Open Road writer-director Mike Meredith must have pictures of Jeff Bridges, Justin Timberlake, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Harry Dean Stanton, and Lyle Lovett committing horrible crimes against small children or adorable woodland creatures. How else to explain their participation in a sleepy little nothing of a comedy-drama about an estranged father and son learning that it’s all about the journey, not the destination, man, during a perversely uneventful road trip? A more likely explanation is that the rest of the cast was eager to work with the great Jeff Bridges, a dependable veteran who brings his trademark laid-back »

A Note from the Flying Monkey: I recently wrote how weird it is that, completely coincidentally, I often get a bunch of questions all at the same time clustered around a central theme. Well, almost every question I received this week had something to do with music. Check it out!
Q: Oh, Great Flying Simian Even Smarter Than the Only Other Smart Monkey I Can Think Of, Doctor Zaius: You might not have heard about it because it was very hush-hush, but Adam Lambert kissed his keyboardist during a performance at the American Music Awards. Supposedly, it wasn’t rehearsed, but done “in the moment.” So what does the keyboardist think – and is he gay? – Martin, U.S. Virgin Islands

I've had my iPod Touch for a month, and I've discovered an alarming trend: Anytime David Archuleta's "Crush" comes on — which is apparently often, since it's on my Top 25 Most Played — I hit the little tab on the upper right of the screen to hide his photo. Why? Because I can't chance that someone might see his face in the 45 seconds it takes for the screen to go dark — and just turning the iPod over doesn't seem quite safe enough. Is this something everyone does — flipping the screen to reveal the tiny track title only on the embarrassing tunes — or just me? If you are a flipper, on what songs? After the jump, my (alleged) Top 25 Most Played List, which includes three more flips. 1. "More Like Her" by Miranda Lambert 2. "You're an Angel, and I'm Gonna Cry" by Chris Thile 3. "Keep on Trying" by Poco 4. "When Did Your Heart Go Missing? »

The very odd duo of Jeff Bridges and Justin Timberlake are coming to theaters August 28th in The Open Road, and I am not at all sure what to make of this road trip picture. The movie gives us Timberlake as a minor league baseball player who takes a road trip to see his estranged father (Bridges), who is a baseball legend. He makes the trip because his mother is sick, and when dear old dad surprisingly agrees to come see her, resulting in a second road trip, hilarity (or suchlike) ensues. The film also stars Kate Mara, Harry Dean Stanton, Lyle Lovett and Mary Steenburgen. I don't know that the world needs another road trip movie, without some serious justification, but this looks like just the sort of oddball character I have been known to like Bridges in. I'm not sure what to make of this one at this point. »

Debuted via MSN, the sneak peek into the upcoming drama comedy features the dynamics of the two leading men, Jeff Bridges and Justin Timberlake, who take the role of the estranged father and son respectively. It also presents glimpses of the trip they take.
The movie written and directed by Michael Meredith centers on a baseball legend Kyle Garrett and his estranged son Carlton Garrett. After years spending time apart from one another, Carlton played by Timberlake goes to see his father Kyle, portrayed by Bridges. Accompanied by his girlfriend Lucy (Kate Mara), he tries to bring Kyle back to help support his sick mother, which led the three to be stuck in a road trip.

Cinematical has just received this exclusive poster for the film The Open Road, starring Justin Timberlake and Jeff Bridges. The film follows a minor league baseball player (Timberlake) who, along with his girlfriend (Kate Mara), travel to reunite with his estranged father (Bridges) and bring his family back together to help support his sick mother (Mary Steenburgen). Lyle Lovett and Harry Dean Stanton also star.
Written and directed by Michael Meredith, we first reported on this dramedy wayyy back in 2007, and again in 2008 when Timberlake and Bridges signed on. It's hard to argue against this cast -- Bridges always brings his quirky A-game, and Timberlake, in my opinion, is only a year or so away from really landing some big roles. But it's these smaller flicks that will convince people of Timberlake's on-screen talent; the ones that strip away his celebrity and expose a little more substance. Definitely seems like »

George Pimentel/WireImage With Diana Krall for a mom and Elvis Costello for a dad, nobody could blame 2 ½-year-old twins Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James for being a little particular when it comes to music. Their preferences, however, just might surprise you.
During a recent interview with NPR, Diana revealed that the twins’ favorite movie is Toy Story; While they “love” Randy Newman and Lyle Lovett’s song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” it is actually a brief musical interlude called “Buzz is Going Fast” that gets them buzzing like no other! “They for some reason are obsessed with that passage,” the 44-year-old songstress explains before launching into the song on the piano, herself. “Sometimes I play for them, and they aren’t really that interested…they don’t care. [But] once I start into [Buzz is Going Fast] they’re running around, and they’ve got their space shuttles…”

Chicago – There are dozens of concert films and music DVDs out there. Most of them are interchangeable collector’s items made almost solely for diehard fans of the band or artist. Very few transcend the limitations of their sub-genre to become more than a mild diversion. “Paul Simon and Friends” is one of those very few.
DVD Rating: 5.0/5.0 Full disclosure is probably necessary before getting too deeply into this review - I was born, raised, and still am a huge fan of both Simon & Garfunkel and Paul Simon’s solo work. I still have vinyl copies, handed down from my parents, of most of Simon & Garfunkel’s work and very few recordings impacted me the way “Graceland” did ringing through my childhood home.
So, of course, I’m prone to a more positive response to a tribute concert of one of my musical icons. But even with that said, it »

It's an indie drama about a dying mother's wish for her son to bring his estranged father to the hospital. Of course, along the way, in the wide, open road, father and son reconnect while remembering their past.
Directed by Michael Meredith from his own script, "The Open Road" is set to be released late summer. »
