Lumiere, producer and director of the series, said, "Everything is in-the-moment. The battles are as real as they can be, creating a visceral experience. This is presented as a billion-dollar Hollywood epic but better, »

Another entry in the Ghost House Underground label, .Seventh Moon. employs a clever premise based on an ancient Chinese myth with star Amy Smart headlining and Eduardo Sanchez directing (of .The Blair Witch Project fame). A fun flick but the grainy hand-held vid source makes this a questionable Blu-ray recommendation. This second group of Ghost House Underground pics presented by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert that also includes .The Thaw., .The Children. and .Offspring. got trimmed down to four selections after last Fall.s eight and seem to average better than the similar horror group offerings from the After Dark Horrorfest pics. Only Eduardo.s second film after his breakout success with .The Blair Witch Project., this pic uses the »

Seventh Moon is the latest picture from one of the names behind the Blair Witch Project. It uses the same .shaky-cam. footage that the other film was known for, but offer also offers some chilling scenes of its own. Melissa (Amy Smart) and Yul (Tim Chiou) are newlyweds that are touring Yul.s homeland of China before going off to meet his relatives. They.re being driven around by tour guide Ping (Dennis Chan). The happy couple has just attended a religious festival and is driven into the night by Ping. They.ve had a little too much to drink so both doze off in the back of the car. Seventh Moon is one of the new Ghost House Underground films and is a mix of zombie horror and Chinese mythology that has its moments but is ultimately unsatisfying. Melissa (Amy Smart) and Yul (Tim Chiou) are a newlywed couple spending their honeymoon in China . After experiencing the local flavor of the Festival of the Seventh Moon, they make a long trek to stay at Yul’s grandmother’s home, deep in the countryside. When their driver Ping (Dennis Chan) gets lost, he stops to ask for directions at a small village…and never returns.
When the couple goes to search for Ping , they find the village completely shuttered and seemingly devoid of human life until an eerie chanting fills the night air. They flee only to encounter a group of pale-skinned and naked creatures, human but animalistic. They find themselves cast as the sacrifices of the Seventh Moon, which »

Chicago – It’s always nice to see world-famous filmmakers raising awareness about work from their lesser known peers. Where would Eli Roth be without Quentin Tarantino, or Neill Blomkamp be without Peter Jackson, or Danny McBride and Jody Hill be without the better half of Hollywood’s comedy titans? That’s why it’s nice to see “Evil Dead” creators Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert “hand pick” the indie horror films they admire, and then assist in their distribution.
Overall Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0
Raimi and Tapert’s “Ghost House Underground” series began last year with a collection of eight features that included the exuberant zombie satire “Dance of the Dead.” This year’s collection has shrunk to four features, none of which are as fun or memorable as last year’s “Dance.” Only one film manages to satisfy, while the other three vary in their degrees of mediocrity and failure. As with most bad horror films, the problems begin early with Seventh Moon; it starts within the first few shots. We see an annoying tourist couple snap pictures and giggle during a Moon Festival celebration in China. Like watching blissfully unaware kids at a carousel when you know the title of the movie is Death Ride, these scenes in horror movies affirm what we usually feel when we see such happy scenes in real life: that there needs to be a cost. “Dumb tourists, commodifying Chinese culture, and ignoring the obvious reality behind their ghosts and monster legends,” we think. But instead of making them monster food for the sheer horror of it all, we must endure the reality of Seventh Moon: the sheer horror is that this first scene is the real story.
Even though the movie worked its best to put us against them, Melissa (Amy Smart »

Yesterday we brought you our exclusive interview with Tom Shankland, writer/director of the kids-gone-bad creepfest The Children, just one of four new Ghost House Underground titles to hit store shelves this week. Today we have an exclusive chat with Eduardo Sánchez (The Blair Witch Project) writer/director of Ghost House Underground's Seventh Moon (starring Tim Chiou and Amy Smart). Check out our full interview with Eduardo below. FEARnet: Where did the inspiration for Seventh Moon come from, is it a real Chinese myth? Sanchez: Me wanting to make a chase film, somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Originally it was gonna take place here, where I live in Maryland. I live in a rural area in Maryland. I just... »

I wasn't sure what to make of the stack of Ghost House Underground DVD releases. While I tend to be a fan of B-horror movies, there's a fine line between a bad-good one (something like say Wrong Turn 2) and just a flat-out bad-bad one (like another sequel, the unwatchable Lake Placid 2). The balance between absurdity, nonsense and gore has to be just right, and if it is even just a tiny bit off any chance of enjoyment is thrown out the window as quickly as a bloody severed head.
As for an outright good one? I tend not to hold my breath on that front. Just look at those continuing After Dark Horrorfest releases. I can think of maybe one or two of those (2008's The Broken, 2006's Wicked Little Things) that I can admit to having enjoyed, and as far as Ghost House Underground has been concerned »

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Platinum Edition) I just posted my review of this one (read it here) and I tried to keep it as short as possible all while managing to gush all over it. Seriously, this baby is packed with goodies and the film simply looks spectacular as Walt Disney's first feature length animated film comes to life in high definition. Snow White is 72-years-old and boy does it age well.
I reviewed the two-disc edition (or three-disc if you count the included DVD version of the film), but there are a ton of additional versions to buy including the collector's pack featured in the image to the left and then one that comes with a bunch of stuffed toys. Oh, and if you buy it at Amazon you can enter the promotional code Snowhite and »

Filmmaker Eduardo Sánchez knows a thing or two about the horror genre. Having been the co-creator/director on The Blair Witch Project , which just celebrated its 10th anniversary and is arguably considered the first true internet sensation, he later followed it up with his alien sci-fi/horror thriller Altered . Now he's back with his third full length feature film Seventh Moon , starring Amy Smart and Tim Chiou. The pair plays a newlywed couple celebrating their honeymoon in China during the unfortunate time of the hungry ghost festival, where on the seventh month of the lunar calendar, the ghost and spirits of deceased ancestors roam the countryside once more in search of a sacrifice. We spoke to Sanchez about the origins of the project, designing the look of the ghosts,... »

You know it's getting close to Halloween when Sam Raimi's Ghost House Underground label unleashes a whole new wave of indie acquisitions on the horror community. Not sure why, after last year's run of eight titles, the label decided to release only four this year, but when the offerings are this fun who really cares, right?
As usual with these types of multi-film releases, we've just not got the time to give each of he flicks full reviews before they street, so this four piece mega-review will have to do.
Tuck into the horrors of The Thaw, The Children, Offspring and Seventh Moon after the break!

Varsity Blues Quick Thoughts: I was 22-years-old when Varsity Blues came out and while it's about high school students, the fact the majority of the actors are older or only slightly younger than myself it pretty much fit right into my early-twenties wheelhouse. Partying, playing sports and hot blondes in whipped cream bikinis (wait... what?). I mean, what isn't there for a 22-year-old not to love? Of course, the film is downright cheesy -- "I don't want... your life" -- and if you are going to attempt to take it seriously you have seriously taken a misstep. However, that isn't to say this film is an entire farce. High school football in Texas is a big deal and while I have no idea if they take it as far as Jon Voight's Coach Bud Kilmer takes it, I would be surprised if the majority of goings on in this »

The Human Condition (Criterion) Masaki Kobayashi’s epic (574 minutes) adaptation of Junpei Gomikawa’s six-volume novel was originally made and released as three separate films (1959-61), and is rightfully regarded as a landmark of Japanese cinema. Candide-like story of naïve, good-hearted Kaiji (Japanese superstar Tatsuya Nakadai) from labor camp supervisor, to Imperial Army solider, to Soviet Pow, and Kaiji’s struggle to maintain his humanity throughout. Unfolds with the mastery of a great novel, beautifully-shot, and a stunning example of cinematic mastery on the part of its makers. Four-disc set bonuses include: Interview with Kobayashi; Interview with Nakadai; Featurette; Trailer; Essay by critic Philip Kemp. Widescreen. Dolby 3.0 surround.
State Of Play (Universal) Russell Crowe stars as a veteran Washington D.C. political reporter investigating the murder of an aide to a rising congressional star (Ben Affleck), who also happens to be an old friend. »

Y'know, when you think of movies filmed in Iowa, there's pretty much only one that ever comes to mind: Field of Dreams, duh. It's really about time that something else be added to the Iowa filmography. Now Nick Stahl, Rose McGowan and Amy Smart are helping the cause, joining the cast of the supernatural love story Dylan's Wake. According to THR the film will be funded with a combination of private equity and Iowa tax credits. Stahl will play a man working at a funeral parlor and trying to unravel a 10-year-old mystery, while McGowan and Smart will presumably play some of the hot chicks in his life. All three stars somehow feel like leftovers from the 90s, but it might be interesting to see what they can do out in those cornfields. »

You know what the world needs? More supernatural love stories. No, we're not talking about the lusty adventures of Sam and Dean; we're talking horror with a heart, man. I mean, who doesn't love a little sappiness thrown in with their terror? Well, 90% of us, that's who, but flicks like these are still coming anyway.
THR reports that Nick Stahl, Rose McGowan, and Amy Smart have been cast in the supernatural love story "Dylan's Wake," directed by Omar Naim, which has begun filming in Des Moines, Iowa. Stahl plays a young man working in a funeral parlor who is trying to unravel a 10-year-old mystery. The film is being produced by Lucas Jarach, Jason Price, and Anthony Gudas and financed by private equity and Iowa tax incentives.

Nick Stahl, Rose McGowan and Amy Smart will be attending Dylan's Wake, a new supernatural romance / indie movie that's shooting in Des Moines Iowa. It's directed by Omar Naim, the Jordanian director of 2004 Robin Williams sci-fi The Final Cut.The story sees Stahl play a young man working in a funeral party who decides to fake his own death to see who would turn up to his funeral (morbid much?). Two people attend: a junkie who believes that the man was an angel who would save the junkie's life, and the man's high-school sweetheart from ten years before. This apparently sets him off to solve a "ten-year old mystery".Shooting's already underway on location. A local casting call in Iowa describing it as "Good Will Hunting meets Jacob's Ladder", while McGowan reckons on her Twitter feed that it's a really well-written indie. Fingers crossed that it lives up to that hype. »

Just like Amy Smart we can no longer exploit Olivia Wilde because she hasn't been in a horror film since 2006! So here is one more Wilde gallery until she graces us with her presence in another horror flick. The hot bikini picture come courtesy of GQ magzine. At least it's not another Megan Fox pictorial. Crank: High Voltage is a movie with a limited target audience. It is not for those who go to the theaters to make out with their dates. It is not for those who pop in a DVD to relax after a hard day’s labor. It is not for small children, those with heart conditions, or women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. And frankly, it’s vile enough that I would not be at all surprised to discover it were carcinogenic. But, like a pack of Marlboro Reds, it is not something without a certain charm and appeal. More after the jump:
Crank: High Voltage picks up just where the first film ended. Jason Statham’s Chev Chelios falls from a helicopter, bounces off a car, and lands face first in the center of Los Angeles. Seconds later he is, abducted by Chinese gangsters so that his organs »

I don't know how long we can milk Amy Smart for appearing in the film Mirrors... Hopefully she does another horror film so we can continue to post pictures of her naked. Until then lets close the book on her with a Crank: High Voltage lip slip! Actually I think she is wearing panties in this scene, but if you use your imagination it looks like she is sans underwear. As for any Smart updates; according to IMDb.com she is appearing in the thriller, Columbus Circle, with Selma Blair... Her career is just begging for another horror film or a Crank 3 -- which ever comes first! »
