Spider-Man 4: Villains named in poll, rumour says Kirsten Dunst written out

23 December 2009 4:42 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

In recent months there has been endless speculation about Spider-Man 4 - with the choice of villains at the centre of the web.

The rumours include claims that production is on hold because Sam Raimi and studio executives are fighting over which baddies will be in the script.

Whether that's true or not, here on The Geek Files I held a poll on which villains fans would like to see. Every time I was about to remove the poll, another piece of Spider-speculation would arise, so it ended up staying on longer than normal.

There were more than 6,000 results on the poll, making it a strong barometer of fans' views, with 27 per cent wanting to see the Lizard going up against the webslinger in the next film and 14 per cent wanting Black Cat.

Mysterio took 10 per cent of the vote, Scorpion and Electro each racked up 8 per cent and Kraven »

DVD Playhouse—December 2009

By

Allen Gardner

Public Enemies (Universal) Johnny Depp portrays legendary Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger in co- writer/director Michael Mann’s take on America’s first “Public Enemy Number One.” Like many big studio releases today, Public Enemies has it all: A-list talent before and behind the camera, but lacks a heart or soul that allows its audience to connect with it. Film plays out like a “true crime” TV show with re-enactments of famous events cast with top actors and shot by the best technicians in the business, with little, if any, character or story development to hold it together in between. A real disappointment from one of our finest filmmakers and finest actors. The lone standout: the great character actor Stephen Lang as a hard-eyed lawman who’s seen a lot, but manages to retain a tiny piece of his heart. For a better take on the same subject, »

Anne Hathaway Not at Fault for Car-Bike Collision

16 December 2009 7:44 PM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Anne Hathaway was involved in a car-bike collision on Wednesday, December 16, but she apparently wasn't the one causing the accident. Radar Online reported the Academy Award-nominated actress was riding in a car with her boyfriend Adam Shulman at the time. While making a turn to Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood at around 1:14 P.M., a cyclist rammed into their car.

According to the police spokesperson, the 27-year-old star of "Rachel Getting Married" was sitting in the passenger seat when the mishap occurred. Although paramedics were called to the scene of the accident, no one was left injured by the collision and none was transported to a medical facility. Police confirmed that the cyclist was at fault.

Anne Hathaway herself has been linked to the role of Felicia Hardy for "Spider-Man 4". She was the latest to be said among the top choice for the role after Julia Stiles »

The 15 Worst Movies of the Decade

14 December 2009 2:58 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

There were a lot of bad movies released during the past decade. That’s not anything that distinguishes the aughts from any other decade before it, but then most of these movies were bad in the usual, torturous ways. There is, of course, a lot of room for debate over these picks and readers should be aware that for my own sanity (sorry Rob Schneider), I purposefully skipped many top contenders. Without further ado, in descending order, our worst 15: The Dukes of Hazzard (2005) I’m not a fan of movies about really stupid people behaving stupidly, and that’s all that happens in this smoldering pile of TV adapted junk. Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott indulge their worst instincts in a laugh free assemblage of moronic Southern stereotypes and car crashes that’s like a horrible, Z grade 80s comedy nightmare come to life. It’s even got Burt Reynolds. Lady in the Water »

John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway to Be 'Spider-Man 4' Villains

8 December 2009 6:41 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

The next Spider-Man's enemies could be found in John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway. According to Movieline, the site has confirmed with sources close to the film that "Spider-Man 4" is circling those two stars to play the villains in the upcoming Sam Raimi-directed movie.

The 56-year-old is reportedly in negotiations with the filmmakers to play the Vulture. In the original Marvel comic books, the possible character for the "Eragon" actor is described as an elderly enemy of Spider-Man, who packs a punch despite his advanced age. The Vulture has flying ability and his sharp wings can be used as projectile weapons.

As for Hathaway, she is said to be the top choice for Felicia Hardy, the character of which has also been linked to Julia Stiles and Romola Garai. However, it is reported that this Felicia Hardy in the fourth "Spider-Man" film will not transform into the Black Cat »

Malkovich and Hathaway are Apparently 'Spider-Man 4' Villain Frontrunners

8 December 2009 11:53 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I have stayed out of the Spider-Man 4 rumor game primarily because it seemed like people were rushing names to the forefront after a mere whiff hit their Inbox. However, Movieline's latest report just feels right to me as if there is actually something behind it, but that isn't to say I like what they're selling.

The latest buzz says John Malkovich will be playing Spider-Man's nemesis the Vulture with Anne Hathaway currently said to be the top choice for Felicia Hardy, a role that also saw rumored names such as Julia Stiles, Rachel McAdams and Romola Garai.

Now, I apologize for my lack of knowledge when it comes to "Spider-Man" lore, but I will decipher the details as best I can.

Movieline says that while Felicia Hardy's alter-ego in the comics was the Black Cat, that isn't the goal of director Sam Raimi's new film. Instead Raimi's »

Spider-Man 4 Villains: Malkovich and Hathaway as Vulture & Vulturess?

8 December 2009 10:10 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Movieline has dropped an exclusive report claiming that they have it from an inside source close to Spider-Man 4 that all the previous rumors of The Lizard and/or Black Cat serving as the villains for Sam Raimi’s next Spidey film are totally off the mark.

So who will be the principal villain(s) in Spider-Man 4, according to Movieline? That’s where things get a bit odd (even more so than the Black Cat rumors).

According to this exclusive report (which is being backed by our friends at First Showing), actor John Malkovich is being eyed for a role as The Vulture, a classic Spider-Man foe whose power is a flight suit with razor-sharp wings. Ok, so maybe that isn’t so odd: Malkovich as The Vulture is one of those head-slap, “Should’ve thought of that” casting choices we all see with 20/20 hindsight. However, news that Anne Hathaway »

What man under 30 has the stones to rock a black blazer over a black t-shirt?  An internet mogul.  This ain’t news to Justin Timberlake.  Merely news to us, courtesy of The Daily Mail.  What else is up with the coming Facebook movie (other than Timberkale perfectly embodying the “I’ll take your money, but I’ll never play by your rules” ethos), you ask?

Well, it’s called The Social Network and it’s being directed by David Fincher, who helmed Seven, Fight Club, The Game and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  Today, we have the first official set pic from the film, featuring Timberlake embodying the look of the aforementioned mogul.

The Social Network is adapted from the book The Accidental Billionaires written by Ben Mezrich of Bringing Down the House fame. The screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin, who created The West Wing and wrote A Few Good Men. »

Universal Announce Dual Format Blu-Ray/DVD ‘Flipper’ Discs

2 December 2009 1:33 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Ever since Toshiba’s HD DVD (now discontinued) released their two-in-one combo discs back in 2007, it was inevitable that double sided Blu-Ray/DVD discs would eventually be made available. It therefore comes as no surprise that Universal Studios (the only major movie studio that backed HD DVD during the high-definition format war) is now leading the way with duel format Blu-Ray/DVD discs. The first films to be released on these ‘flipper’ discs will be Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne Trilogy, which will be available on January 19 2010.

Although the idea of selling discs with Blu-Ray on one side and DVD on the other will undoubtedly help shift consumers toward switching over to Blu-Ray (whilst slowly discontinuing the production of standard DVDs), I have personally never been a fan of dual sided discs as they are more prone to damage (despite the fact Blu-ray discs themselves do not scratch very easily »

Paul Greengrass Abandons The Fourth 'Bourne,' Leaving Franchise's Future Uncertain

1 December 2009 1:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

It sounds like Jason Bourne has a lot more than a bad case of misplaced identity to deal with. Director Paul Greengrass — who helmed the second and third "Bourne" installments — has reportedly walked away from the developing fourth "Bourne" movie, leaving the project without a director.

The Playlist has extensive analysis on the situation, suggesting that the departure of Greengrass is due to a variety of reasons, including his alleged tendency to run up budget costs and his own dissatisfaction over the way Universal has treated him during "Green Zone," his Iraq War film starring Bourne himself, Matt Damon.

Greengrass's departure might not be permanent, however. According to The Playlist, Universal might need the filmmaker in the fold if the studio wants to make a fourth "Bourne" installment with Damon, given his loyalty to the director after the last two "Bourne" movies and his recent work on "Green Zone."

Dylan Baker Becoming The Lizard Voted Fans' Favorite 'Spider-Man 4' Rumor

24 November 2009 12:01 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

When I asked you to vote on your favorite "Spider-Man 4" rumors last week, I half-expected the list to become outdated in a matter of days at the rate new rumors were popping up. However, things have been pretty quiet the last few days, and now we can definitively say which "Spider-Man 4" rumor has fans most excited.

With more than 30 percent of the total votes, the rumor that Dylan Baker will become The Lizard in "Spider-Man 4" garnered the most support from readers, but it was closely followed by another popular rumor — that Bruce Campbell's many cameos in prior installments would lead to him playing Mysterio in the upcoming film. After those two, however, readers didn't seem to like any of the rumors floating around about Peter Parker's next big-screen adventure.

Here's how the poll's results broke down:

Dylan Baker will become The Lizard: 33%

It was a busy week on the boards. Sunday saw the opening of a Broadway revival of the musical Ragtime (pictured right), which EW's Melissa Rose Bernardo calls "dazzling" and gives an A.
