Actor Jason Schwartzman is a member of an exclusive club and no ... I'm not talking about the Coppola family. While, Schwartzman is the nephew of the famed director and Nicolas Cage's cousin he is also a member of a prestigious group of actors that appear in Wes Anderson films. The talented ensemble includes Luke and Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Anjelica Huston, Willem Dafoe, Seymour Cassel and Michael Gambon, actors who have all appeared in more than one Wes Anderson film. Schwartzman himself made his film debut in Anderson's Rushmore and later appeared in The Darjeeling Limited but now returns to work with Anderson again in his new film The Fantastic Mr. Fox, opening in theaters on November 13th. The film, which is based on the classic children's book by author Roald Dahl features stop motion animation and also introduces Oscar winners George Clooney and Meryl Streep into the Anderson family of actors. »

On behalf of moviegoers everywhere, we here at IFC would like to thank that schoolyard bully who must have so traumatized a young Roland Emmerich that he has spent his recent career ritualistically laying waste to our world one famous landmark at a time. Having previous employed such excuses for mass destruction as alien invasions and global warming, this time cinema's most destructive director turns to an ancient Mayan prophecy that foretells the end of all mankind, and once again batters humanity -- specifically John Cusack and assorted stragglers -- like the »

Night at the Museum 2 is exactly what a Hollywood sequel needs to be. Bigger, louder, filled with more famous faces and almost the same story as the first. It is on its way to eclipsing the success of the first and it hits Blu-ray and DVD next week.
Ben Stiller gathers his Natm cohort as they take their mix of slapstick and Scooby Doo to Washington D.C. where the Smithsonian archives are bought to life by the power of Ahkmenrah’s Tablet. Shawn Levy’s family friendly Night at the Museum grossed nearly $600m worldwide so a sequel was fairly inevitable and in these risk aversive climate the Battle of the Smithsonian needed only to rekindle the comedic chaos and broad dramatic strokes of the original to succeed.
It’s no surprise that the sequel does not stray from this path, and this is a blessing and a curse. »

So what did we learn this week? Well, we learned that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will host the Oscars, we learned that if you've got the coin, you could buy the rights to Terminator, and we learned that Owen Wilson is either out of options or a much bigger fan of Marmaduke than anyone else I know.
There were also a couple new trailers for next year's summer movies, which we're featuring below, and we found out that if you want The Hurt Locker for the holidays...that holiday better be Martin Luther King Day, because it won't arrive until January. That's a dumb move.
Go:
Terminator rights being auctioned this month
Hurt Locker not on DVD until January 12th
New trailer for Prince of Persia
Seriously, Owen Wilson can't do better than effing Marmaduke?
You heard it here first: Fox Searchlight gives up on Gentlemen Broncos

Owen Wilson has signed to voice the title pet in Marmaduke, the Great Dane of the long-running comic strip in an adaptation for Fox and New Regency. It will be live-action combined with CGI animals.
Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy are playing humans, and the rest of the animals will sound like Fergie (”The Black Eyed Peas”), Emma Stone, George Lopez (let me guess, a chihuahua?), Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, and Damon and Marlon Wayans. Tom Dey (Shanghai Noon, Showtime) is directing.
Did no one see Garfield? Even Bill Murray regret that. (Side note: this is much better.)
The plot will be based on the Brad Anderson comic strip created in 1954, so they’ll have 55 years of canine humor to mine gold from. It must be nice to have a job where you can scrawl out a year’s worth of awful dog jokes and sit around the rest of the 364 days. »

Owen Wilson is back in the doghouse after scoring a Christmas 2008 hit with Marley & Me - he has signed on to be the voice of cartoon mutt Marmaduke in a new film.
The actor will join William H. Macy, Fergie, Steve Coogan and Wayans brothers Damon and Marlon in Fox’s CGI/live-action movie adaptation of the 55-year-old comic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It won't be the first time Wilson's voice has been the star of a movie - he played Lightning McQueen in hit 2006 animated movie Cars and he portrays Coach Skip in pal Wes Anderson's upcoming animated tale Fantastic Mr. Fox. »

What is it with Owen Wilson and movies about dogs? Last year, Wilson joined Jennifer Aniston in the heart string-yanking, super-melodramatic dying dog movie Marley and Me, and now THR is reporting that he'll be voicing the rascally Great Dane Marmaduke on the big screen. Based on the popular comic strip that was created in 1954 by Brad Anderson and Phil Leeming, with a script by Tim Rassmussen and Vince Di Meglio (License to Wed, Smother), this live-action/CG movie will follow a family named the Winslows who move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog Marmaduke, a slobbery pooch who creates chaos wherever he goes. It will see the title character "navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams and overcome a fall from grace." Tom Dey (Failure to Launch, Shanghai Noon) will direct the feature, with Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy making up the human cast »

While Ricky Gervais is busy working on his routine for hosting the Golden Globes, the folks orchestrating the Academy Awards are feverishly hunting for a host of their own.
Hugh Jackman, last year's master of ceremonies, has already turned down the gig, and now it appears that the dynamic duo of Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. have declined the opportunity to host in tandem as well. The obvious questions is, what is it about the Academy Awards that's putting these prospective hosts off? Does Oscar have something in his teeth?
Maybe it's a simple matter of not asking the right people, since Hollywood has no shortage of talented professionals that could do the award ceremony justice. If I were in charge of selecting a host, here are some of the folks that I'd consider.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Billy Crystal is widely considered »

Get ready to let out a giant "Oh c'mon, really!?" sigh because the following news might be a touch hard to swallow. First off, whether we want one or not, Hollywood will be giving us a feature film based on the Marmaduke comic strip character (aka that big dog that gets into all sorts of trouble). Okay, fine, a movie about a dog that's up to no good – we get it, we've seen it, we can live with it. But what's bothersome for some about this particular movie is that Owen Wilson is going to provide the voice of Marmaduke. Yup, in this film Marmaduke can talk…and the movie will follow a family who move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog who, of course, causes mischief every step of the way. Would Marmaduke purists rather the dog not be able to...

Still mining for the flakes of properties with name recognition, the 55-year-old comic strip “Marmaduke” and the 47-year-old “Berenstain Bears” children books are getting movies. Like everything that kids find interesting, parents or grandparents will have to sit their children or grandchildren down and use the introduction that holds every child’s attention, “Back in my day…” Hit the jump to go beyond nostalgia and slam into old-person crabbiness.
THR reports that Owen Wilson (your grandparents don’t know who that is) will provide the voice of Marmaduke, “the rascally Great Dane… a slobbery pooch who creates chaos wherever he goes.” I assume that when they said “chaos”, THR meant “comic mayhem” since “chaos” would imply the terrifying existentialism of uncertainty. If that’s the direction the live-action/CG movie is headed, then I take back my skepticism. Joining Wilson are Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy as Marmaduke’s human family, »

Reese Witherspoon picked up an Oscar in 2005 for her performance as June Carter in the Johnny Cash biopic "Walk the Line," but she's been fairly quiet since then. Working of course, but there's one listing on IMDb for her that's had me curious for ages. After all, it's not every day that you pair a performer of her caliber with James L. Brooks, executive producer of "The Simpsons," for an as-yet-untitled comedy also starring Jack Nicholson, Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson. So when MTV reporter Akshay Bhansali ran into Witherspoon last week at the Avon Foundation for Women Awards Gala red carpet, he just had to ask her for an update, perhaps even a title, on the mysterious project.
"We don't have a title, we just wrapped on Saturday," Witherspoon said. "We've been shooting it for the past six months." And what exactly is "it"? Previous reports indicated that the »
