BusinessWire (via NolanFans and The Playlist) is reporting that prolific film composer, Hans Zimmer, has been tapped to score Christopher Nolan’s upcoming secretive thriller, Inception. Of course, this isn’t really a surprise considering Zimmer worked with Nolan on both his Batman movies, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
Inception is Nolan’s new movie that could aptly be summed up as “mysterious.” With a few small character details aside, and a central story that focuses on blackmailing, the only real line of info we’ve had to go on is that it’s, “a contemporary sci-fi thriller set within the architecture of the mind.”
Even The Riddler would have trouble working that one out…
Although like I said, it’s no surprise that Zimmer is (apparently) scoring Inception since he scored Nolan’s Batman Begins and The Dark Knight (the latter along with James Newton Howard), The Playlist »

World War II seems to be a bottomless well of inspiration for Hollywood, which isn’t without justification. When an international event touches the lives of so many, there are countless stories to be told. Unfortunately, there may be infinite stories of human determination and the indomitable human spirit, but thematically the sources aren’t quite so endless. Director Edward Zwick certainly found a compelling story in the Bielski brothers, but Defiance offers nothing that hasn’t already been found in stories like Lord of the Flies, Schindler’s List or even The Diary of Anne Frank. Defiance isn’t without creative merit; it just brings nothing new to the table.
Defiance starts with World War II raging around the Belarussian forests where Tuvia (Daniel Craig), Zus (Liev Schreiber) and Asael Bielski (Jamie Bell) have taken refuge after their parents were slaughtered by men hired to hunt down Jews. The »

Chicago – There are many things to like about Edward Zwick’s “Defiance,” including Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber’s excellent performances, a lovely score by James Newton Howard, and, of course, the important subject matter, but the overdone screenplay and Zwick’s typically melodramatic direction just barely sink the film, although a nice Blu-Ray release should help make a few of its flaws easier to overlook.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0 “Defiance” is a story about an amazing human struggle for survival led by the Bielski brothers - the reluctant Tuvia (Craig) and the powerful Zus (Schreiber). The brothers are joined by their younger brother Asael (Jamie Bell), a young man who follows their every move but often gets stuck in the middle.
Defiance was released on Blu-Ray on June 2nd, 2009.

The film opens with the mass execution by Nazi soldiers at Novogrudok that killed a large portion of the Bielski’s family and friends. »

My background is that I began playing piano when I was very, very little, and also writing, quote "writing" music when I was very little. I was mostly self-taught because I grew up in a town without much musical education, »

Somewhat lazily dismissed at the time of its release as merely a “white collar Taxi Driver” this taut, tidy, intelligent thriller has stood the test of time and slowly ascended to something approaching cult status. It’s a career best performance for Michael Douglas, whose career has largely defined itself through unflattering turns in risky projects. Wall Street might be more showy and Fatal Attraction more accessible, but it’s the jaw-clenching resentment and white knuckle intensity of this ordinary man pushed past the brink that stands as Douglas’ finest hour. It’s also by far and away Joel Schumacher’s best film; also, it's further testament to the performance of his leading man and Ebbe Roe Smith’s layered script that a director who can, in all honesty, fuck up a cup of coffee could deliver such a complex and compelling picture.
It’s 1993, and the Cold War has ended. »

The Decepticons have been defeated, Bumblebee is nursed back to his former glory and all is well for our heroes Sam Witwicky (Shia LeBeouf) and Mikaela Barnes (Megan Fox) at the end of 2007’s blockbuster Transformers. Cue the credits accompanied by the latest rock anthem from nu-metal band Linkin Park, “What I’ve Done”. The song, the band’s first single from their album “Minutes to Midnight” perfectly suited the Michael Bay spectacle and was a clever choice to wrap up all the onscreen action. Now fast forward two years and it seems that the production team behind the new Transformers film, Revenge of the Fallen have once again snagged the Californian combo for soundtrack duties.
The song is called “New Divide” and is due to receive its first radio play on Monday 18th May after which it will be available to download from iTunes. But for those looking to catch a snatch, »

It’s been a weird ol’ ride for film composers Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard regarding their musical contribution to last year’s bat blockbuster The Dark Knight. There have been highs – the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, the 2008 World Soundtrack Award for Film Composer of the Year for Howard and a BAFTA Award nomination, and lows – snubbed by the Oscars (they didn’t even score a nomination), but their journey could soon be taking another upswing as the celebrated duo’s soundtrack has been featured on the shortlist for the Soundtrack of the Year Award at this year’s Classical Brit Awards.
Bizarrely Howard will be competing against himself in the category, his work on Will Smith flick I Am Legend joining Paul Cantelon’s period romp The Other Boleyn Girl on the list of three. Howard is a popular choice, having »
