You can scarcely swing a dead cat lately without hitting some kind of best-of-the-decade list (even though, technically, the first decade of the 21st century doesn't end till next year).
Well, here comes another one. Rather than try to construct another best-shows-of-the-'00s list, though -- something that's already been done here, there and everywhere -- I decided to focus on individual episodes from 2000-09. Are these the flat-out "best" episodes of television over the past 10 years? Probably not. But these are the ones that stick with me, that I can still remember not just for brilliant lines or beautifully constructed plots, but for how I actually felt while watching them. They are, simply, my favorites.
Here's my list, in no particular order. What's yours?
"Final Grades" ("The Wire")
HBO sent critics the entire run of season four of "The Wire" before it premiered in 2006. I had watched the first »

It's about time Lafayette settled down.
The sassy short-order cook on True Blood, who has exchanged sexual favors for V in the past, will find a man that appreciates him for his personality (and smokin body, of course) on season three of the HBO hit.
Michael Ausiello reports that the character is getting a boyfriend! True Blood creator Alan Ball - who said this summer viewers would see a more “vulnerable” Lafayette - is searching for a sexy Latino actor in his 30s to fill the role.
Any suggestions on who this should be? Share them now in our True Blood forum! »

Fans of "True Blood" can definitely expect a hook-up between Eric and Sookie, Alexander Skarsgard affirmed. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the HBO drama series star assured that his character and Anna Paquin's will eventually fall into each other arms. "It's bound to happen at some point," he said. "There is definitely something between Sookie and Eric."
Although he confidently said the hooking-up will take place, the 33-year-old actor admitted that he didn't know whether it will be seen in season 3. "I'm not sure if it's going to happen now or anytime soon or in season three, but eventually," he said. "It's a big part of the book, so I think something will happen at some point. I'll do my best to mess things up between Sookie and Bill. We'll see how well I do!"
Speaking up more about his character, he expressed his wish for the new season. »

And the powers-that-be behind HBO's popular series True Blood still aren't done filling out the character roster for Season Three. Today another new female was added, one named Crystal Norris, who shares an "electric connection" with Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten).
According to The Hollywood Reporter Crystal, a beautiful "barefoot, sundress-wearing woman", will be portrayed by Lindsay Pulsipher, whom genre buffs will likely recognize from the Masters of Horror episode "The Fair Haired Child". Most recently she's been in A&E's The Beast.
In the Charlaine Harris books on which True Blood is based, Crystal is a full-blooded werepanther who is first introduced in the fourth novel and reappears throughout the storyline up until the ninth book, Dead and Gone. We'll see how much showrunner Alan Ball deviates from that formula come June, 2010, when the third season premieres.
And there are still several additional characters yet to be cast so stay »

From the good (hooray for Modern Family!) to the bad (Jon and Kate’s reality TV-fueled flameout) to the Gaga, Hollywood offered no shortage of entertainment worth talking about in 2009 -- so much, in fact, that we could only fit about half of the year’s noteworthy stars and characters on our cover. And after weeks of debates, throwdowns, and an admirable lack of name-calling, EW’s writers and editors have put together a complete guide to the year in entertainment. Joe Manganiello has been cast as burly werewolf Alcide in the upcoming third season of "True Blood," a role HBO assures us will be crucial. In Charlaine Harris' "The Southern Vampire Mysteries" series, Alcide Herveaux, a full-blooded werewolf, first comes into play in the third book, "Club Dead." In that novel, Eric (Alexander Skarsgård in the HBO series) enlists Alcide to help Sookie (Anna Paquin) track down the kidnapped Bill (Stephen Moyer). Alcide had been considered one of the key new parts of the third season since creator Alan Ball mentioned his involvement in the fall. Still yet-to-be »

When "True Blood" returns to small screen in 2010 with season three, Anna Paquin could be seen having a fling with Joe Manganiello. HBO has recently confirmed that the actor who stars as Owen the Bartender on "One Tree Hill" has landed the recurring part of werewolf Alcide Herveaux.
Series creator Alan Ball has discussed about the possible romance between Sookie and Alcide in early 2009. "I believe [Alcide] appears first in the third episode," he detailed. "Alcide is already in love with someone, a very bad woman named Debbie Pelt. But will he fall in love with some else? It's too soon to say."
Although mentioning that it was too soon to talk about the fling, he did mentioned that the two characters will get along. "This good-looking, rough-looking, but articulate and basically decent man is not what he seems," he said. "He is a heroic type and he and Sookie get along really well, »

More and more actors are joining "True Blood" as the fresh faces who will appear in the third season. Beside finding an actor to play the heavily recurring character Alcide Herveaux, the show also cast three additional actors for Yvetta, Reverend Daniels and Joe Lee Mickens.
Showrunner Alan Ball chose to pick lesser known actor to play the werewolf Alcide. Joe Manganiello, best known as Owen on "One Tree Hill" gets his major break as Sookie's aid in finding Bill who was kidnapped at the end of season 2. In the book by Charlaine Harris, Alcide is summoned by Eric and will have a fling with Sookie. However, Alcide is emotionally attached to his on and off girlfriend Debbie Pelt. An actress is yet to be found to play Debbie.
Ball said previously that Alcide would probably appear in the third episode. "This good-looking, rough-looking, but articulate and basically decent man is not what he seems. »

True Blood fans, it's the casting news you've been waiting for... Joe Manganiello, best known for playing barkeep Owen on One Tree Hill and Marshall's law school chum Brad on How I Met Your Mother, has landed season 3's most important new role: Sookie's werewolf crush, Alcide Herveaux. If Alan Ball follows Charlaine Harris' books, Eric will summon Alcide — described in casting breakdowns as good-looking, rough-around-the-edges, articulate, heroic, and decent — to assist Sookie in her search for Bill. Still to be cast: Alcide's on-again, off-again psycho girlfriend Debbie Pelt. Thoughts? Pleased with Alan Ball's pick? Surprised he didn't go with a bigger name? »

The third season of "True Blood" starts to take shape with the announcement of several actors to fill in the new roles. First of all, Lafayette gets a mom in Emmy-winning actress Alfre Woodward, meaning his cousin Tara will get a visit from her aunt. Her character and how she would incorporate to the story are not disclosed. Creator Alan Ball is not following the book by Charlaine Harris as Lafayette is supposed to have died in book 1.
Not only Lafayette, Sam will have his family exposed. After it was announced that Marshall Allman would tackle the role as his younger brother named Tommy Mickens, it is revealed that Tony-nominated actress J. Smith-Cameron will play the recurring role as Melinda Mickens. Described as "dirt-poor, hung-over and trashy-looking", Melinda is slated to appear in the second episode.
Another new blood added to the cast is James Frain. Known for his role »

Meet Lafayette's mom: It's Alfre Woodard!
The Emmy-winning actress has been tapped to guest star on Alan Ball's vampire drama "True Blood" as the mother of Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis), the cook at Merlotte's who got busted for selling vampire blood and held captive and tortured by Eric (Alexander Skarsgard).

And the True Blood casting news keeps on rolling in. Fans of The Tudors and 24 have a lot to be excited about as James Frain (aka Thomas Cromwell and Paul Raines, respectively) has just signed on as recurring character Franklin Mott.
EW's Ausiello Files got the scoop that Frain's Franklin Mott, Tara’s over-protective vampire squeeze, will first appear in the second episode of the show’s upcoming third season.
Ausiello goes on to describe Franklin as a tall, dark, and handsome vampire who seems to have an “immediate and torrid” connection to Tara. In the books, Franklin is essentially Tara’s sugar daddy, but [we're] guessing Alan Ball is taking the character in a different direction.

While fans still must wait months and months for season three of True Blood to premiere, creator Alan Ball has dropped various hints about it for weeks now.
For starters, he says a werewolf named Alcide will be featured prominently on the new season of the HBO smash. The search for an actor to play this role - along with two other new characters, one of whom reveals a spoiler about the series - got underway this week.
Here's a description of the trio of newbies set to invade Bon Temps in the summer of 2010:
Alcide: Good-looking, rough-around-the-edges, articulate, heroic, and decent, but not what he seems. He gets along well with Sookie. There’s even an attraction between the two. Very strong recurring.
Hollis: A fortysomething African-American; a bouncer in a bar. Resembles an NFL lineman, but is a nice guy that is familiar with Alcide; is suspicious of Sookie. »

True Blood's wolf hunt has officially begun!
