Martin Bashir has apologised for remarks he made to the Asian American Journalists Association during an after dinner speech. The British journalist, who fronts ABC's Nightline, reportedly upset his co-presenter Juju Chang when he commented on the length of her dress. Bashir said at last week's event: "A speech should be like a dress on a beautiful woman - long enough to cover the important parts and short enough to keep your interest - like my colleague Juju's." The 45-year-old had earlier opened his speech by saying: "I'm happy to be in the midst of so many Asian babes. In fact, I'm happy that the podium covers me from the waist (more)

The newsman who made headlines with his expose of Michael Jackson has been struck with a brain tumour.
Martin Bashir's Living With Michael Jackson TV special helped cement the pop superstar's reputation as an oddball who shared his bed with children.
And now the British news reporter, who hosts America's Nightline show, has been diagnosed with a brain tumour after a blow to the head prompted him to seek medical help.
Tests showed Bashir had a benign tumour.
A representative for Bashir says, "Martin is seeing this as a blessing in disguise. If he hadn't had the knock to his head, he would never have known about the tumour."
The newsman is not expected to undergo surgery, but doctors will monitor his condition.

Despite dire reports about his health -- he has been receiving treatments for pancreatic cancer -- and tabloid photos of him looking gaunt and haggard, Patrick Swayze plans to return to work on the A&E series The Beast, published reports said Friday. In the series, Swayze plays an FBI agent whose methods are so unorthodox that he is hounded by the bureau's internal-affairs department. "I have searched for quite a long time to find a character that is this multilayered, unpredictable and downright entertaining," Swayze said in a statement Friday. Meanwhile, the TVNewser website reported on Sunday that Nightline correspondent Martin Bashir will return to work after doctors discovered a "small growth" on his pituitary gland. The website cited an ABC News spokesperson as saying that doctors plan to monitor the situation from month to month.
