The hits from this year’s American Film Market (Afm)* keep on coming. The yearly festival where buyers and sellers do business to bring us all the movies we’ll see in the (hopefully) near future offers plenty of photos and full synopses. You may not have the fat cash to purchase these movies but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy their first images and plot details. We’ve got the goods for Hellraiser, Earthbound (Starring Kate Hudson and Gael Garcia Bernal), Nowhere Boy, The Concert, The Tournament, and the animated films Escape from Planet Earth, Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs Evil. Check it all out (plus the digital version of the promo poster for Scream 4) after the jump. Please note that I have copied down all synopsis exactly as they were originally written.

So, it was announced as of April 2009, that Guillaume Canet's incredible French thriller Ne le dis à personne (Tell No One) will receive the ultimate Hollywood retouch. An English language remake. Not much was heard after that announcement, but now according to Variety magazine Miramax and Focus Features will be handling this one. Tell No One was an excellent film, and huge success in its native France. Coming from the hands and mind of its French actor turned director Guillaume Canet, it was well received, reviewed, and loved by audiences across France. It is a complex thriller and mystery based on the novel by Harlan Coben, which follows a pediatrician who's spent several years grieving the death of his wife when he suddenly discovers she might still be alive after receiving a text message from her. The film was noteworthy for casting some of the finest actors in France including François Cluzet, »

Films on the cutting edge. That's how I would describe the 50 movies on this list. While some moviegoers may find it an 'alien' experience to refer to sub-titles in understanding what's happening on the big screen, a good number of audiences are totally enjoying the different and often surprising take by many foreign filmmakers, nothwithstanding the language barrier.
Content-wise, the 50 movies feature stories about war and peace, love and romance, family affairs, coming-of-age tales, cultural and religious diversity, social issues (including prostitution and abortion) and personal - celebrating life or facing death with dignity. Coverage-wise, tMF list down many of the best foreign films from 2000 until last year from the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and about 15 other countries in Europe, North and Latin America and Asia-Pacific.

The Girl Cut in Two (La Fille coupée en deux) is a French comedy directed by Claude Chabrol, starring actors Ludivine Sagnier, François Berléand and Benoît Magimel. The film revolves around two men who vie for the love of single, local TV weather girl 'Gabrielle Deneige'. Chabrol is noted as a core member of the 'French New Wave' group of filmmakers who first came to prominence in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Like French directors Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Éric Rohmer and Jacques Rivette, Chabrol also worked as a critic for film magazine Cahiers du Cinema before pursuing a career in movies. Often characterized as the most 'mainstream' of the New Wave directors, Chabrol at the age of 78, with The Girl Cut In Two, remains a prolific film-making auteur at the height of his 50-year career »

No, I still haven't seen Guillaume Canet's French thriller "Ne le dis à personne" (Tell No One), but I've heard great things about it, and I'll definitely try to watch it some time this summer. The film was a success in France and even delivered a solid box office run in the U.S., and according to Variety, Miramax and Focus Features are planning to develop an English language remake.
Apparently, the studios are eyeing a production start date of spring 2010. No director or cast is currently attached. Based on the novel by Harlan Coben, the French thriller followed a pediatrician who's spent several years grieving the death of his wife when he suddenly discovers she may still be alive. François Cluzet, Marie-Josée Croze, André Dussollier, Kristin Scott Thomas and François Berléand starred.
From what I've heard, "Tell No One" is a complex thriller with plenty of intriguing twists, »

Sean Penn won an Academy Award for his portrayal of openly gay San Francisco politician Harvey Milk, and Dustin Lance Black won another for his script, which focused on Milk's activist years in the 1970s. "It's a minor miracle of sheer film making joy and determination," wrote James Rocchi, "and one of the best American films of 2008." With deleted scenes and mini-features "Remembering Harvey," "Hollywood Comes to San Francisco," and "Marching for Equality." Also on Blu-ray. Buy it.

My top pick from last year is a dramatic thriller about vampires and young people, old souls and eternal fears, yearning for the unobtainable and the inevitable pains of loving another person. Director Tomas Alfredson takes a traditional tale -- the youngster who is picked on and the new friend who helps -- and rubs in a touch of supernatural, »
