It's fitting that MTV's Woman of the Year is going to cap off a tremendous 2009 by playing one of the most anticipated New Year's Eve shows in the country. Lady Gaga's December 31 show at the James L. Knight Center in Miami Beach is currently the hottest New Year's Eve ticket on the market, according to "Extra," despite ticket prices that range from $425 to $25,000. The show has already sold a reported $1 million in tickets.

But Gaga isn't the only star ringing in the new year from the stage. She joins a cavalcade of bold names who will hoist some bubbly on Thursday, including Mariah Carey, Adam Lambert, John Mayer, reunited jam band Phish, Maroon 5 and psychedelic astronauts the Flaming Lips.

Six Directions For Madonna's Next Album

29 December 2009 10:27 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

Madonna is currently at work on a new album, which is expected to be unleashed some time in 2010. She has stayed relevant in the music business by constantly reinventing herself, taking in new genres and musical experiments and making them her own. She is meticulous about how she selects collaborators, because they inform the sound of the albums as much at Madge herself.

One of the confirmed producers working on the still-unnamed work is Brendan O'Brien, who made a name for himself sitting behind the boards for Pearl Jam and has also helmed productions for Bruce Springsteen, Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, AC/DC and Aerosmith. Does that mean that the singer behind "Like a Prayer," "Ray of Light" and "Hung Up" is going to dive deep into the rock world and make a guitar-based album?

It's a possibility, though reports also have A-Trak (a Kanye West collaborator »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Seven

29 December 2009 7:16 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Mother and Child

Opens: 2010

Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington

Director: Rodrigo Garcia

Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.

Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.

The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not »

Well, we made it. 2009 is practically in the books, and now it's time to look back on the rather, uh, zany year that was. Last week, I published my list of the year's Best Songs, and now, it's time for the albums. It's a fairly lengthy list, because, like I wrote in my songs column, there's perhaps no better way to sum up the year than by looking back on the soundtrack to it all. And it just so happens that there were plenty of albums that did just that.

But before we get to my list, I want to point out that, yes, I'm very much aware that "the album" is a fairly dead concept, but so is the idea that Obama is a socialist, »

Outasight And Ameer Bring New Perspectives To Hip-Hop

Twenty-six-year-old Caucasian Mc Outasight says he's proud to come from an area that spawned so many dope acts and is looking forward to receiving his own recognition.

Ross criticizes Deeper Than Rap's omission from Grammy noms over Beyonce's 'Video Phone.'

Apparently, Rick Ross has taken exception to being overlooked in the nominations for the 2010 Grammy Awards. The Bawse did not receive any nods for his acclaimed latest LP, Deeper Than Rap, which has received critical acclaim and debuted at #1 on the Billboard albums chart.

Ross responded on Thursday (December 10) via an unofficial remix of Beyoncé's "Video Phone." Over the track, he begins: "My paint wet, I ride slow/ The girls sweat, while my AC cold/ Stand-up guy, but my top fold."

A few bars later, he gets into his Grammy omission.

"What I think bout the Grammys? I think they all haters," he declares. "What they all think bout the album?/ They think it's amazing/ What I think about the album?/ I think I'm the greatest. »

More Cast Added to Night of the Living Dead: Origins

5 December 2009 1:56 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Danielle Harris is getting some help fighting off the zombie hordes in writer-director Zebediah De Soto's "re-imagining" of George Romero's horror classic Night of the Living Dead, titled Night of the Living Dead: Origins.

THR reports that Bill Moseley (1990's Night of the Living Dead), Joe Pilato (Romero's Day of the Dead), Alona Tal (Supernatural), Jesse Corti (Heroes) and Cornell Womack (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) will join the previously cast Harris to do voice work on the CGI-animated movie. Moseley will play Johnny, Harris' brother, while Pilato and Tal will play the voice of the Coopers, the couple who argue to stay in the basement in Romero's original. Corti will play a no-nonsense New York cop and Womack a news reporter.

Moseley and Pialto's ties to Romero are no coincidence, and De Soto calls the casting "a nod to Romero fans. Horror is a genre and zombie movies »

Danielle Harris, Cast Lined up for Night of the Living Dead: Origins

4 December 2009 1:12 PM, PST | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

I'm a bit late on this, but it dovetails nicely into the Danielle Harris casting in Hatchet 2.  THR is reporting that Harris, Joe Pilato and Bill Moseley have joined Mos Def in the cast of Night Of The Living Dead: Origins, a strange, hybrid retake on George Romero's original classic.

A little background on Origins:  This is to be an updated, 3D version that takes place in New York City and provides back story for the characters.  It's also supposed to involve some new sort of animation, but I've heard it's got live action too.  The explanation that director Zebediah DeSoto offers is so confusing, I have no idea what he's doing here.  And I have a degree in English.

I gather that DeSoto is trying to pull in fans of all zombie works associated with Romero.  As Harry Cooper he's cast Pilato, who's mostly known for playing Capt. »

Grammy Nominations: Eminem Vs. Drake And Three Other Intriguing Contests

3 December 2009 11:55 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

Since Wednesday night's unveiling of the 2010 Grammy Awards nominations, most of the conversations have been about the three-way dance between Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Beyonceé, the trio of women who lead the way in the most important categories (those being Song, Record and Album of the Year). But there are plenty of other competitions that provide intriguing showdowns between artists. Here are the four that we will be talking about until the show, which will air live on January 31, 2010.

Best Rap Solo Performance: This category pits two heavy hitters (Jay-z and Eminem) against two newcomers (Drake and Kid Cudi) and a dark horse on the comeback (Mos Def). Though Jay-z may seem like the favorite, the true head-to-head in this category is between Slim Shady and Drake. It's the new kid on the block versus an able veteran, and they both showed up on one of the best »

Cast Official for Night of the Living Dead: Origins

2 December 2009 10:53 PM, PST | HugAZombie | See recent HugAZombie news »

The unconfirmed cast of director Zebediah De Soto's CGI "re-imagining" Night of the Living Dead: Origins is finally official. Danielle Harris, Bill Moseley, Joe Pilato, Alona Tal were all previously announced, but were unconfirmed. Well, dust off that tie and drive to the church because this cast is confirmed!

Moseley will return as Johnny, the part he played in Tom Savini's 1990 remake, and will likely play Johnny in every remake made from here on out. Harris will play Barbara, and Pilato (who appeared in Romero's Dawn of the Dead) and Tal will voice the Coopers.

The casting of Piluto and Moseley is obviously a calculated one, one De Soto explained is "a nod to Romero fans. Horror is a genre and zombie movies are a subgenre that people have been following for years and years." De Soto is one of those followers, and claims that Night of the Living Dead »
